Electronic Gadget Repair
$40
Gabe told my husband the charge for the service would be $40. I thought this was a little expensive but we decided it would be worth paying him to fix the iPod rather than break it by attempting to repair it ourselves. Gabe called my husband the first day to let him know that he broke the back piece when he removed it from the iPod and that he ordered a new one to replace it and that he would not charge anything extra. I picked the iPod up after about 10 days or so. I asked my son to try it out to make sure he could hear music through his headphones. My son tried turning it on but the screen would just light up and it would beep twice. He tried charging it all night but it still did the same thing. I didn't understand why there was no quality check performed on the iPod before it was returned to us. My husband brought it back to Gabe and explained the problem to him. He said he would take a look at it, try to reboot it, and if he couldn't get it to work, he would issue us a refund of half our money. I was furious when my husband told me what he had said. I work for a large company that is dedicated to providing our customers with outstanding customer service and Gabe's response was not okay with me. After about a week, and no phone call from Gabe, I called him to see if he had it fixed. He said he hadn't called because he didn't have our numbers, which is funny because my husband gave them to him the first time we brought the iPod in. He told me he tried rebooting it with no luck and that he would refund me half my money. I told him that the reason I paid him to fix it in the first place was because I was worried we would break it if we did it ourselves and that I thought it was ridiculous that I was paying him $20 to break it instead. He said he would still have to charge me $20 because that is his diagnostic fee. He kept telling me that he really didn't know what to tell me. I told him he should fix it since that is what he does for a living. He told me he would look at it some more and call us back. He asked me to text him our phone numbers. I gave it a few days and texted him our numbers. He left me a message that he couldn't fix it and he would go ahead and refund us our $40 and we could pick up our broken iPod. My husband picked up the iPod and refund the next day. Gabe had the nerve to tell him that he could continue to try to figure out what was wrong with it, but it wouldn't be free!
Response from IPhixd
"In situations as such we try our best to give the best customer support possible. When a customer first comes in it is always reported that there will be a diagnostic fee of $20 if things do not work out in the end because these things can permanently break on there own doing. This fee is waved however if the repair is done successfully or if we feel that little time was taken. Yes, it does sound ridiculous that we did not have your phone numbers to contact you because you did give us your phone number when you first came in. We dispose of the phone number once you pick up your device, so when you returned we had no record of your contact information, just a record of your name and the repair details for warranty purposes. In the end we both came to the conclusion that the iPods time was up and it was just simply broken due to its own doing. At that point to give a fair end result that we both agreed upon we gave you a full refund and lost money in the end. Our number one priority here at iPhixd is to have the best customer support possible. But it is impossible to do business and expect these situations to never happen. In the end we always hope the customer walks away happy. My sincere apologies if you did not GIna. Sincerely, Gabriel Kirk iPhixd CEO"
