A SVF rep was sent to my house accompanied by a Mannington Floors Sales Rep who supplies SVF with their inventory. I explained that I was extremely dissatisfied with the product and wanted to return the wood. Certainly, this wood which is such "high demand" weeks prior would be able to be resold, but ironically, SFV and Mannington no longer felt the excitement they had once felt when pushing this superior product onto me. Needless to say, no returns were accepted.
Luckily, I found a man who was actually knowledegable in hard wood floors sold/installed an amazing SOLID hard wood floor at the same price that I purchased 800 sq feet of SVF product.
I did end up using 320 sq feet of SVF product for two basement rooms since I was either to use the product for flooring or really expensive fire kindling. Exactly as I expected, the floor is soft and easily damaged even by dropping such things as cell phone chargers or remote controls. Installing this fabricated floor was a task of its own as it took two installers to hold the wood down because it curled upward.
We then received a phone call from SVF stating that we owed them a balance on the "wood" we purchased from them. I explained to them that 480 feet was unused and in boxes and even though I would be penalized with a restocking fee, I wanted them to come and get it from my garage. They agreed to do so as they wanted to speedily close and resolve this transaction. It was then discovered that SVF would owe us money even after their restocking fee. Suddenly, they were no longer in a hurry to resolve anything. The owner said he would come out with the Mannington sales rep and personally check out the floor. He said he would contact me that same day and in the next 1-2 days, bring his truck and his check book. Of course I never heard from him.
So, I called them 3 days later and made an appointment for the owner and the sales rep to visit my house to inspect the wood. They arrived only to again tell me that this was the "most expensive product they sold" and they have "never received other complaints from any other customers." The owner stated that I should have returned the product before any installation had taken place if I was unhappy with the product Ironically, NOW they take returns!
I thought I would finally be rid of the pile of unboxed wood that has been harboring space in my garage for the last 5 months, but before it was loaded up in the truck, it was discovered that no check book was brought. I refused he take remaining wood without payment. Flustered he said he would return within 2 hours with a cashier's check. It's now been 7 hours and I highly doubt South Valley Floors will be the first to be in contact if ever.
DO's:
Do your homework on Hard-wood floors and Engineered Wood - especially if it is a Mannington product.
