Mellco Landscaping

The good news is that Jim Mellor (owner) and Mellco do excellent work overall. We had a large boulder wall built in the back yard, and two smaller walls on the sides, and mostly xeriscaping everywhere else with just enough grass to look good. And it turned out great. Better still, the cost was very competitive. The only problem – and it’s not a small one – is a severe lack of communication combined with an almost pathological inability to keep a schedule. We would plan to start on (for example) May 15, and when the day came I would be at home and nobody would show up. Calls would then go unanswered and the voice mailbox was perpetually full to the point of not being able to record messages. I once tried to call for literally weeks with no response so I called the same number from a different cell phone…and got an answer right away. I don’t know if they screen all their calls but when they get to know you they definitely pick and choose when they want to talk to you. We finished the yard, but in the end we spent the last $5k on another landscaper to come in and finish the work lest we not get things done before summer was over. Bottom line is that Mellco is a good choice if you are not in any particular hurry to get the work done and are OK with a decidedly casual approach to keeping customers in the loop.
