"If you remember, when I opened your washer and turned it on, your washing machine was agitating and spinning at the same time, which should never happened and indicates a problem with the transmission. Your agitator was stuck up and away from the drum. My guess is that when the second tech was trying to fix the agitator, the transmission gear must have slipped back into place allowing it to work, I'm happy for you that it started working, but I assure you that you still have a transmission problem and that it will soon reappear. I've seen this before, I've been doing appliance service for 45 years and I always have my customers' best interest in mind. I don't know what the second tech ended up charging you but it is my honest opinion that you have invested money that you will soon regret and would have been better off to put towards a new machine. Your machine is over 20 years old and is not worth investing what it would cost to repair it. Again, I'm just being HONEST!"

"I'm sorry that you feel that you've been taken advantage of. I wish you would have called and talked to me. Just because they claim they are selling "Whirlpool" replacement parts doesn't mean they are actual Whirlpool Parts. They can still be made by an after-market company but still fit Whirlpool appliances. The parts I placed in your refrigerator are actual parts from the Whirlpool themselves with a one year warranty. I have found in my years of service that parts that I buy directly from Whirlpool perform better and I have less problems with than the after-market parts. In addition I have their guarantee to fall back on if needed. You can't believe everything that you read on the internet and have no warranty to fall back on. Cheaper is not always better!!!"
Sincerely,
One very happy returning customer!
"I'm so sorry you were given wrong information about your dishwasher. I wish you would have called my office so I could clear this up. If you remember, you had water in the dishwasher but the pump wasn't able to spray the water around to wash your dishes which means the pump is bad. As I told you, the price of the repair was over 50% of the cost of a new dishwasher and I advised you to purchase a new dishwasher. Apparently, when the new dishwasher was installed, they had to turn the water valve off under the sink. Turning the water valve off caused the gasket in the valve to move. It doesn't move on its own because it is not a moving part, it would have happened when they actually turned it. Therefore, you have a bad water value which has nothing to do with the pump. I've seen this happen several times in the 42 years that I have done service, Please call me if you would like to discuss this further. 801 523-8184"
"I'm so sorry you are unhappy with my service and that it has been bothering you for so long. After looking up your information, I was surprised that this has been on your mind for over a year. I don't commonly talk about my father owning the business prior to me but its been so long that I can honestly say I don't remember this conversation. I might have mention it due to the fact that I grew up working with my father in this business and feel that I have a lot of experience. Looking at the first invoice shows that I had to backorder the element which explains the length of time we had to wait for the part to come in. It also shows that your were very aware of the price of that element and that you agreed to that price. There was no surprise here at all. On the second invoice you were charged for the remained of the price of the part (which had been discussed on the first visit) and the labor only. If you would like to talk to me about this or if the dishwasher is not working to your satisfaction, please call me at 801 523-8184"
I like that he didn't pressure us to go ahead with the repair. We will talk our options over and if we decide to go ahead with the repair he told us there will be no additional service call. I completely trust this guy and would recommend him.
1) He arrived promptly, diagnosed the problem immediately and talked it over with me: new circuit board $265, plus $40 labor to put it in. $75 for his first (short) visit to diagnose the situation. $380 seemed better than buying a new comparable range, so I paid him for the $75 service call, plus a $100 deposit, plus tax. About $187. Our discussion at that point was that the part would be in the next week and I'd owe him about $100 more.
2) Part arrived on time, Dean came back, personable as ever. While replacing the board he damaged the control panel while removing it from the old board to put on the new one. I watched as he did this. He asked me if it looked ok to me, it didn't. He had to cut it off with a putty knife and it didn't work. He said he could replace it with a new one and then called to find out if they were in stock nearby, they were. He charged me another $45 plus tax for the new face. Now, either one of two things is true: either he broke it through negligence and I shouldn't have to pay for it, or else 2) he broke it and it's not really his fault because it's impossible to replace the board but use the old panel, in which case he did not disclose this fact to me when we agreed to the original work. In that case it is yet another "hidden cost" that runs through his reviews like a theme.
3) Upon completing the work and calculating what I owed him there were other discrepancies all of which pushed the bill upwards. The part cost more than he estimated by about $20, then there was the new part that I had to replace when he broke it, and then finally he charged me $22.75 shipping for the part. He never mentioned shipping before then, just at the end. I find $22.75 will ship most packages anywhere in the US the NEXT DAY, not the NEXT WEEK. All of these were ways to nudge the bill upwards withough disclosing upfront what the final cost would be.
I do business frequently with contractors and usually their word is good. With Dean, he's giving you a low-ball estimate that he intends to inflate. He should disclose the final cost upfront, it's not mysterious, every other contractor I deal with knows to the penny what the job will cost before they start and tells me up front. I'd forgotten about people doing business this way. It's too bad, because he's a personable guy who seems to know his work well, if he had been forthright and transparent I would have given him a solid review. Having looked at other bad reviews, I see that this is a pattern.
Beehive Appliance arrived to fix our washing machine and we were told that we would be charged for the trip that day plus the deposit on the part that needed to be ordered to repair the machine. We were informed that we would owe $240.00 upon installation. When Beehive Appliance came to install the new part our bill was then changed to $300.00. We feel that there was a lack of transparency in the billing process and wonder if this is a case of taking advantage of an elderly female customer? Definitely would advise caution if you consider using this provider... We know we won't be calling them for their service or recommending them.
"I'm sorry that you feel that I took advantage of you. I pride myself in the integrity of my work and business ethics. Please let me explain what happened. I can only give an estimate of the cost of parts that are not frequently ordered while in the home. That is why I wrote estimate on your invoice. The part came in $25.00 higher than what was estimated. There was a shipping charge of $17.75 due to the special order which I explained to you during the first visit to your home. I, too, have an elderly mother and would never want her to be taken advantage of. This was defiantly not that. I had no idea that you were unhappy at the time of completion of your washer and hope that you will call me to work this out. I will do whatever will make you happy."
Second: The visit to the house to fix the dryer: well he was there for about 5 minutes when he opened the front part of the dryer where at least one belt resides and he showed me what he found. A little boy sock draped over it - That's what happens to your socks, folks! Anyway he did not charge me for parts he did not use and he asked me if there was anything else that needed fixing and so we discussed my less than optimal dishwasher for a few minutes and he gave me some suggestions.
Why Dean is great: Affable guy, tries to help you, does not charge you for stuff you don't need. Thanks, Dean!
