Frustrating as heck. I'm fairly happy with all the sub-contractors. I think they did good to top notch work. My lousy grade is for the overall contractor. This job went way over deadline and still is not done. I know construction jobs frequently do this but when the job sat still for weeks at a time between sub-contractors, with no communication, speaks of **** poor planning. I felt I had to take time off of work every time a new sub started to be home to meet with them to make sure they knew what needed to be done. All communications was handled with texting. Really! Texting. As the job started nearing completion I wanted an update on the budget to see if we could afford to have some other things done. I felt my request were being ignored. We finally got one when we refused to pay any more installments until we received one. Lack of communication and scheduling which led to unnecessary frustration is my biggest complaint.

They started in late 2012 and finished a year later. Everything, from punctuality to flexibility to quality, stood out to me.

Basement concepts was incredible start to finish.  They provided multiple models of our basement layout and a very detailed quote.  They are very responsive and have great customer service.  They we did exactly what they stated they would do and there were no additional upcharges or adjustment to the orginal estimate.  We encountered 1 problem during the entire project with our fireplace and there was no issues having it redone, they really want you to be happy with the work.  I wish all contractors were as honest and treated customers the way they do.  They also completed the project on time, even though I caused them a several day delay with a shower I ordered.   All of their subs were polite and did a great good too.  They really know how to treat customers and I  I wish they did more than just basements.  Basement Concepts is by far the best contractor I have ever worked with.

Half way into this project, we were extremely satisfied.  Basement Concepts did everything that they said they would do on time and well.  Then suddenly, progress stopped.  We contacted them and were told that they were very busy because construction had suddenly picked up.
We asked repeatedly about having our appliances re-installed.  They moved them to do some tiling.  They did this at the last minute, and the washer was not properly hooked up.  The (practically brand new) dryer suddenly did not work. An electronic component had to be replaced.
We arrived at home ready to move in on the date the contract was supposed to be finished and found things to be in disarray.  Construction materials had not been removed.  The upstairs had not been cleaned at all.  We spent several hours just cleaning before we were able to begin moving in.
.Our new tile in the dining area was scuffed from moving the appliances.  When we asked about it, we were told to clean it with a mild abrasive
The cooling system had been turned off, and we had to call a repairman to get it running again.
Despite our complaints, there was no real apology, only the excuse that they suddenly became busy.  Part of the tiling job was not finished.  We had to wait for a week for this to be completed.  Carpet remnants were left all over the house including an unsightly pile in our front entrance.
We were very disappointed, especially because of the high expectations that we had at the beginning, expectations that they established themselves!  They never did pick up the carpet remnants from our front entryway.  We had to dispose of them ourselves.   You might get lucky and have good work done throughout a project, unless they get busy again!
Response from Basement Concepts
"We appreciate the feedback member. Our goal is to constantly improve the construction experience for each of our clients. We feel badly when our clients are let down. For the record, we did do additional work upstairs during this project & we could have done a better job tidying up. The construction process can be a messy one & we stress cleanliness to our sub-contracts. Having said that, we are happy to report that we were able to finish on time & member still gave us a B on the quality of our work. We are not perfect, but we do guarantee that we will finish on time. There are periods when our sub-contractors get busy, but we still make sure to finish our work by the contracted deadline. In the end, we hope to continue to be able to make your dream basement a reality. We hope that despite the difficulties, member enjoys his basement for years to come. Thank you."

Everything was pretty good. The subcontractors didn't clean up, but overall they were good and respectful of our time and space. My husband had to request the electrician to come back and fix things.

They were absolutely professional and personable. They did everything promised and were so easy to work with. Loved that they had a "honey bucket" delivered and a dumpster delivered the first day so that the contractors didn't ever have to come upstairs. They entered and exited through the basement windows, never coming upstairs. They NEVER asked to use our bathrooms because of the "honeybucket" (port a potty) provided on the side street. Basement Concepts guaranteed 2 months, start to finish, and they ended 1 week ahead of schedule. Quality of work is fantastic and our design changes as the work progressed was never an issue. We have recommended them to everyone! All of the subs were exceptional as well. Thanks Korey and Jed! You guys have a great company and are doing a fabulous job! If we ever move and have another basement to finish, we would not hesitate to call you again!

We contacted 2 companies for new construction in our basement. Basement Concepts was the first to get back to us. Korey came over and measured and looked things over. He arranged a consultation and provided us with 3 options (even though we had come up with our own floor plan). His were much better and arranged in a way we never thought of doing. Their prices were very reasonable so we went with them. It was a large project and all the sub-contractors that were used were great. Jed kept all the workers on track and on schedule. We ran into many complications with the job, but Jed and Korey worked through them. Most of all the workers used the basement window to enter and exit the home during construction except when large things like drywall needed to be brought through the house.
Since this was a large project, coordinating the project was no easy task, but you wouldn't know it by the way details were handled. There were a couple of times they felt the job was not done good enough by a subcontractor, and Jed would make sure they came back and finish the job correctly. The city inspectors were not always easy to work with, but Basement Concepts knew the codes well and we passed all city inspections. The basement is beautiful and it is all thanks to the hard work and dedication Basement Concepts has for their quality of work.
We do not hesitate a moment in recommending this company to friends and neighbors and if any more work needs to be done on the house, they will be the ones we call. We are very impressed with the company. Many of our neighbors have hired contractors and have not been pleased with the results, plus none of it was inspected. I'm glad we went through the trouble of getting inspections done because we know the quality of work is up to fire codes and we did find out that if anything did happen to our home, it would be covered by insurance where our neighbors maybe denied a claim since their construction was not inspected by the proper authorities.

We had another company give us a cheaper estimate, but wanted to get a second opinion, so we called Basement Concepts. Korey with Basement Concepts was much more organized, and he provided a 3-d computerized walk-through of what the basement would look like when it was finished. The walk-through was free with no obligation. This was very helpful, because it helped us to understand where the walls would be, etc. and we were able to adjust some things ahead of time. Korey also suggested a great design. So in the end, although they were slightly more expensive, we decided to go with Basement Concepts. We're very happy we did. They included all the nice finishing touches - upgraded carpet pad, bull-nose rounded drywall corners, nice door hardware, holey-smooth (hand-plastered look) drywall finishing, full construction licensing and inspection with West Jordan city, can lights, three-way switches, plenty of outlets, shelving built-in to the closets, interior insulation in the theater walls, etc. They brought a dumpster and a porta-potty to the house, and all of the materials, including the lumber, drywall, carpet, etc. went through our basement window, along with all the workers and supervisors (and even the inspector from West Jordan - I'm not sure how they got him to go through the window, but they did). This way, nothing ever came through our house, which kept everything clean and our kids out of the way. In addition, they sealed everything off with plastic, so we didn't have any drywall dust floating around, and they cleaned up completely after each step (with a final "detailing" at the end). They worked with us on everything. When we needed a plug added, etc. they did it without any change fees or hassle. The most impressive part, though, was how they treated our home. At one point, after the drywall, the painters were working downstairs. They asked if they could use our hose to fill up a bucket, which was fine. After filling it up, they went back to the basement, and realized our hose bib had frozen and cracked over the winter (we left the hose attached), and when they turned it on it leaked all over, behind the drywall in the basement. The painters immediately told my wife what was going on, and they stopped painting and got their shop vac and a fan out of their van. They vacuumed up all the water for us, and then turned the fan on (they ended up letting us keep the fan for three days to circulate air). Then they called Jedd, who called us and let us know what was going on as well. He called his plumber, and worked with the plumber, the drywall sub, and the painters to schedule everything and get it all fixed and back on schedule for us. All of this help when the frozen hose bib was not their fault! Overall, we were very impressed. The whole process from start to end was about five weeks. We will definitely go back to Basement Concepts in the future.

We were very pleased to have worked with such great guys. They were really helpful. We didn?t have any problems with them. We really are pleased with the final product. The people who had come to do their job were nice and pleasant to be around with. Whenever we have problems I usually call them.
