I called Gunthers because they are one of the few HVAC companies that are approved to work on the proprietary equipment made by Carrier, plus the house is in American Fork, same town where Gunther's is based. They sent a tech out who in just 25 minutes analyzed my "no heat" problem and the necessary fix, good so far. He left to go pick up a part, the Gas Valve. He returned in just under 2 1/2 hours, as he had to drive to SLC for the valve. He went right to work and installed the gas valve in about 35 minutes . Great the furnace is now working. However, when I received the bill I was shocked! $985.96!! I have been a general contractor since 1973 and a property manager since 1985. I have had thousands of new HVAC systems installed, I have had repair work done on hundreds of furnaces over the past 36 years. I know alittle about this type of equipment and this type of work. I was absolutely stunned by Gunther's bill. I figured 3 1/2 hours of labor and a gas valve might run $550 to $600, but $1,000, no way!! When I called and talked to the service manager, Nathan Silvey, he said there was nothing he could do, no adjustment. So Beware, Silvey said they don't do service work by the hour, rather, they look in a book and charge a flat rate for certain types of work based on the book rate. They charged $43.75 to clean the flame sensor, no parts involved, just 15 to 20 minutes of labor. They charged $99 to just show up on site, no credit given toward the service work, then $843.21, the " book rate", to replace the gas valve. Actual time on site for their tech was exactly one hour. Travel to and from Salt Lake to pick up the part was about 2 hours and 25 minutes. I would have driven and picked up the part if they gave me that option. I was told the billing rate for their tech is $125 per hour. Wow, that is an expensive pick up and delivery service. Beware folks, ask a lot of questions before you have these folks come out and work on your equipment. I only called them because my regular HVAC repair guy couldn't get to me for several days and he said Gunthers was the only other local company he knew of that could get parts for Carrier equipment. Believe me, I will be more careful in the future... and no more Carrier equipment will go into any of my rentals. Their proprietary parts give little competition, as only Carrier approved companies can get their parts, so they can just charge whatever they want! Competition keeps the prices reasonable. Don't use Carrier equipment! Let me reiterate, workmanship was fine, the tech, Sergii, was a nice guy and went right to work, no beating around the bush with him. However, the price for what was done was way out of line. In addition, the failure of the service manager to attempt any reconciliation, cost reduction, or to compromise with me in any way, well, thus the low rating. Good luck folks! Know what you are getting into if you intend to have Gunther's work on your equipment.

I enjoyed working with the team at Gunthers. My first contact was with Jamie. He did an excellent job of explaining how things worked, and advised on a great plan for improving the heating and cooling in our home. The installers were professional and friendly. They did the air conditioning install on one day (including electrical work), and the additional duct work on a subsequent day. The hardest part of the whole job was deciding to finally let go of the swamp cooler. The changes have been excellent, and both the system efficiency and comfort of our home had notable improvements.

They detected a leak in my coils and ended up putting new freon in my unit due. They arrived on time and were very helpful. I would recommend them to others.

Yes, they were punctual. It took about forty five minutes to complete the work. There was only one person who came out to do the work.

They came on time and were very professional.  They took the time to explain the noise and that it was fine.  And what to look for  if there was a problem.  We were just concerned after a different  company did a tune up on our AC.  Wont use the other company again.  Nice and polite, but not knowledgeable.  We are very comfortable with Gunthers.

They did a great job. I'd recommend them to everybody. They came out when they said they would, they diagnosed it accurately, they gave me a good price and they had all the parts on their truck. So even though there were a number of parts involved, so many of these people have to come back a day or two later to order in the parts, Gunthers had everything right there. So a couple of hours after diagnosing the problem, they had it fixed. He was so sophisticated, they could have told me it was a lot worse, if they were dishonest but I trusted them and when I  went to Angie's List, it had such good recommendations. They were also very local. The only thing I did not like is that essentially, they could not come out on the weekend without charging a certainly high surcharge. I had to wait from Saturday to Monday. The price wasn't cheap but they are of good value. They said they'd come out on Monday and they came.

These are 16x25x4 filters which are almost impossible to find elsewhere and Gunther's charges about half the price as anywhere else.  4 inch thick filters do a better job of filtering the air, improving the performance of the furnace.  Thanks to Gunther's for setting it up for 4-inch filters and also for not gouging on the price.

The technician (I think his name was John?) was very friendly and easy to talk to.  He gave me detailed followup info about each furnace.  What I liked best was the education he gave me.  I idon't know much about furnaces, but now because of everything he taught me, I feel like I am now conversant in "HVAC" language.  The furnaces are in a dirt crawlspace under an old house, and he was not scared of it like I am!  It's dark and has spiders.  haha.  Gunthers also has a program in which  you can prepay for a tune up for next fall too (or summer a/c), and get a lower cost for both now and later.  They'll call me in next fall, so I won't have to call them.  All in all, they were professional and will use again.

They were good, hard working and honest. They came and did the job. They cleaned up after themselves. They explained what they were doing and what still needed to be done.

The technician was very pleasant. I have hired them to take care of my air conditioner and furnace for 10 years. They came out to replace coolant and scheduled another appointment for cleaning the ductwork the following week.
