replacement windows

After my initial contractor cancelled, I asked around my neighborhood for a window removal/replace contractor. A neighbor said they had seen Scott Milner of Milner Installation Services replace a window next door, and it was such good work, they hired Mr. Milner to replace their window, too. I asked for a bid to remove the original aluminum sash and replace it with a Pella Thermastar (now known as "Encompass by Pella") vinyl window. Scott examined the original window install and determined that the window had been "bricked in place" by the original contractor. The original window could no longer be removed intact, because it was larger than the opening in the brick. He said his usual fee was not enough. He would have to disassemble the window before it could be removed, which would add at least a half hour to the job. I expected that he would be breaking the original panes of glass and there would be a mess to clean up. WRONG! Scott removed the panes of glass from the aluminum frames without breaking them. Folded and removed the frames and sash, and no broken glass! The install of the new window was a snap, and the low-pressure foam insulation and sealant application were perfect. Scott has become my window installer of choice for my rental properties and I plan to use him for the window remove/replace contract on my primary residence, too.. The "B" rating for "Price" is based on you get what you pay for. Since Scott does significantly better than average work, he charges a more than average fee. That's just fair; and he deserves to get paid. The Depot or Lowe's would have charged $125. But their contractor would have left broken glass on my back porch, the insulation would be loose fiberglass shoved in with a shim, and the sealant wouldn't be smooth. I would have been expected to clean up the broken glass. I know, because I have used the "resident" installers before. Is it worth more to have a clean remove/replace with perfect low-pressure foam insulation, perfect sealant, no broken glass, and no cleanup? I say, "YES"!
Description of Work: Ordered Window from local retailer. Original contractor cancelled. I needed someone.
