Central A/C - Service or Repair
BEWARE!!!!
I contacted this company after my Trane central AC blower fan failed. They were the first to respond to my after-hours call, and I paid $99 for their diagnostic service. After inspecting the unit, they quoted me $4,800 plus tax for replacement of the blower motor in the attic furnace.
I refused the repair because the price was outrageous. I then called Compass Heating and Air. Their technician came out promptly, replaced the blower motor, and also performed additional services including clearing a clogged evaporator line, cleaning the outdoor compressor for efficiency, and checking refrigerant levels. The total charge for all of this work was $890.
The difference of nearly $4,000 between the two quotes is unacceptable and cannot reasonably be justified. I believe this company attempted to take advantage of me during an emergency situation.
THIS SHOULD BE CRIMINAL IN MY OPINION!!

Central A/C - Service or Repair
This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with ? outrageously overpriced, unethical, and charging for parts that are actually covered under warranty.
Here is how they operate: they will come out, service your unit, and throw out a ridiculously high number. Then the next day, they will call back with a ?much better? price to make you feel like you are getting a deal. Do not be fooled ? you are still being massively overcharged.
Example: They ?fixed? my unit for nearly $3,000. Just 45 days later, my fan motor went out. Their initial estimate? Around $3k?$4k. The next day, they called with ?great news? ? it would only be $1,750 for the part and labor. Oh, and I would need to wait two weeks because the part was on ?back order.?
Something felt off, so I got a second opinion. Another reputable company came out, quoted me $400, told me the motor was fully covered under warranty, and it was readily available at a local warehouse.
A bunch of lies and pressure tactics. STAY AWAY!

Repairman showed and gave a thorough inspection to two units inside and out. Very detailed inspection and technician was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. Gave pros and cons of repair vs replacement of heat pumps.

I pay like $20 a month. If you call them they will come at midnight or they come 24/7 but they will charge you more. So if you can wait until the next day it can save you $20 to $30 which is fair.

They cut my air conditioning in half. They build them. Still subscribe to them for where you pay like $20 a month and you get a discount on labor. They told me why don’t you order your filter online. I said why didn’t you tell me that a long time ago. It saved me over half. These filters are big like 6 inches and there are 2 of them.

The work they performed was well done. They were professional and did extra steps that a lesser AC company would either skip or not do as good a job. They replaced literally every part of these two systems and it was necessary. Builder grade units were end of life. They didn't miss any part of the systems and even noticed that one return was too small, due to home builder mistake, and resized it, including the duct work for it, about 15 feet worth (for an extra fee) and I could see that it was definitely necessary. Their team size was 4 and it took 12 1/2 hours, with lots of banging, drilling and sawing. They removed all debris. and cleaned up after themselves pretty good but not perfect. I did notice a few small issues with one of the two outside units but they came back and resolved it the next day, no problem. The new AC systems are fantastic, house is very comfortable now. And these systems hardly run at all even on hot days (85F). They installed two Nest thermostats and set them up for WiFi access from the internet (way cool), Despite $4,000 in rebates from the gas provider, it was very expensive. These are high quality and high efficiency units with lifetime warranties but still pricey ($21,000+). You can get it done cheaper but then most problems people have with HVAC systems are due to improper installation, so you get what you pay for. They were over an hour late but that was due to traffic.

The service itself was, I think was $60/$62 or something because I have one of those Aprilaire big filters they they do once a year. You pay for the filter, just like if I had used 3M filters that I installed myself on the old system. You still pay for that over and above the annual contract charge.
Since I haven?t used anybody else, it is hard to rate the price. I put a ?C?, just the middle of the road, just because haven?t shopped anybody else. I have been happy with what they have done. The last several years, I would say ?A? for professionalism. The technicians were good.

They do good work. They need to be a little more transparent with the customers as to what the actual repairs are. Their pricing schedule has just categorized all the different types of repairs and maybe some of the repairs being done are not as equivalent as some of the others on the list. You get overcharged just because of the way it's categorized. It would be better if it was individually priced.

I called in to Hobsons Air Conditioning/Comfort Experts and their call center answer the phone within seconds and was very pleasing to talk to. The technician showed up on Thursday 5/7/15 on scheduled time, he was prompt, courteous and professional.
He also had on shoe covers so that my house carpet won't get dirty. That's very important to me. He was very informative and explains in detail what was wrong with my unit. Price was very affordable!! Thank you Hobson's/Comfort Experts Air Conditioning. I will definitely keep your number for future needs.

A week ago I was on Angie and saw the review about this company are mostly bad with only one A. I aborted my long story. Today there are quite a bit of As so I decided to post mine. Hope this help. My take away is: the management is not doing their job of recruiting and training.
It's a very bad company both personal experience and according to the 2nd company I found on Angie. They were fined in the 250K range last year for their bad jobs done. The service person came roughly on time without a heads-up call as the dispatcher indicated. The first thing he stepped into the door was to sell me a service plan. I said skip it for the moment because it's not the agenda of the day. He was witty, teasing with a hint of sarcasm. He showed me a slightly scorched insulation and offered to help fix the pipe that gave out hot air to cause that. It took a twist to put the pipe straight. After it's done, I then said now I can hear what he has in the service plan. I didn't buy one. He then said he'd spent a lot of time in this house and no one else would do that etc. I got the message and tip him all the cash I had on me which was little, but he took it. 10 minutes later, I walked into the master bath to continue planning the remodeling to find the temperature varied significantly because there was no airflow. The dispatcher had him come back because I remember the service guy had not stepped into the master bath at all. He was going to, asking me where the control panel is, and changed course because the control panel is in the other direction of the house. On his return, he said in a mean tone like it's my fault to have him back that if it's something else I want to know and I need to pay $42.00 Right then, right there, he said and quote: "Either you pay, or I walk". I was intimated at that moment plus I do want to know what's going on, so I vaguely agreed. It daunt on me 3 minutes later, this is part of the maintenance checkup, why should I pay for a incomplete job? He wrote up an invoice after I called the company to indicate it is for his own pocket. I was transferred to a management level person who said 'he will absorb the cost' that's not substantiated at all. I decided to post my review because I don't think many folks know their dishonesty: the air filter is the once-a-year type, their company's record shows it's changed 5 months ago. Never-the-less, the filter was plain dirty and more than two persons who saw it said there is no way a filter get that dirty in 5 months. In another words, when the filter was supposedly to be changed without supervision, it might not get changed. In my case, the old capacitor was not returned to me and I didn't know (still don't) if it's a new one that's being replaced.

They offer a low price checkup, but when they get out there they try to sell an entire replacement system. We ended up getting the unit replaced, but found out after the fact that it was only a collapsed duct. We ended up paying $6900 for a problem that could've been fixed with a $266 repair.

They were excellent when I first started using them but they have gone down hill over the last year and a half. The quality of their technicians has gone down and so has the quality of their work. Their price is high. That is why I changed to someone else.

The tech arrived an hour late. He spent a little over four hours at my house, accomplishing nothing. He was unable to explain what he was doing. He repeatedly mentioned that he was confused. He kept confusing the two units. He asked for batteries and a flashlight. Toward the end of the four hours, he muttered something about ordering parts, but I told him to leave my house. The entire experience was very upsetting. I called the company Sunday and they sent out another tech. The previous tech was scheduled to arrive later that afternoon, but I insisted that I did not want that tech near my house. Amazingly, my thermostat, once working, was now defective. But to replace the thermostat, it would cost $270 dollars, unless I joined one of their memberships--platinum ($384), Gold ($312), Silver (144) or Bronze ($108). Then the cheapest the thermostat price went was about $200. All of the repairs are tied to these additional membership gimmicks. They can't simply come out and balance freon and replace a capacitor. If you don't purchase the membership, the service costs more. And because I refused to pay $200+ for a new thermostat, the tech couldn't service that unit. And all I wanted was a $100 service call for two units. Unfortunately, I have no confidence the work I paid for really is done correctly. Ironically, their website is acgenius.com. No genius in sight. I went to Lowes and purchased a $30 dollar thermostat and called Tom Durbin HVAC, whom I should have called in the first place. They sent someone out the next day, installed the thermostat and charged me $65.
