We were told this job would take "a week". When we negotiated the price, we agreed to buy the primer and exterior paint to help defray cost and get a lower price. The day he showed up to start the job he didn't have any caulk or caulking gun and wanted to know if my husband had one he could use, as well as a power drill. He bid the job knowing it would require caulking, yet apparently does not have those simple tools of the trade, nor did he go buy any, though he regularly advertises in a local newspaper as being a painting company. A day and a half later, while my husband was out of town on business, he knocked on the door and said he was through with the job (the job that was suppose to take a week). I asked him to come back when my husband had returned to be paid the rest of the money for the job (as my husband had given him part of it already). He insisted that my husband had told him to "settle up with me." I went out to the car to get my checkbook and saw that the dormer window repair job had been only half done. I pointed this out to him, and he insisted that would be "extra." As one looked at the dormer, he had scraped, repaired and painted the west side of the dormer but not the east side. Who would ask for half of such a job to be done?! He insisted on being paid so I wrote a check for the remainder of the job. When my husband returned, we walked around the house and saw that the contractor had only repaired maybe 1/2 of the spots that he had pointed out to us as places he would repair. We will never use this painted again and recommend that others in the area be extremely careful when dealing with him. Get everything in writing and do not pay him until you have confirmed that he has done the job as you requested it be done.
Description of Work: Job bid was repair and repainting of fascia boards around house as pointed out by contractor as needing repair along with repainting of east and west exposure of 1 dormer window that was exposed to elements and had peeling paint.
