Home Building
$3,000
Had talked with Jim Strickland (owner) extensivly about grade of rock to be used ( Bin 10) and where the rock, crushed white limestone, should come from.  This would be the 5th re-surface of driveway over a 32 year ownership of the home.  I had asked - told Jim I wanted the rock to come only from White mines, near Merkel Texas.  He also quoted that the job would cost between $800.00 and $1200.00I noticed on day one that when any crew left a machine, they seemed to leave the motor running (running up the time clock) claiming that the equipment was hard to start once warmed up.  When the material started to arrive, I commented to one of the hands that is the str
angest looking Bin 10 I ever saw.  The nature of Bin 10 is that it has just enough fine material throughout the mass to cement itself, making a coherent base, leaving a high degree of permability and porosity (rainfall would be quickly shed or transported away) Bin 10 does not track into one's automobiles or home when wet and also does not track when driven across after initial wetting and packing.  The material he brought me was better than 80% fines and did not come from the source I had specified ( he did not tell the truth about this until copies of his invoices were demanded) To say the least the loads should have been turned down, but we all know when you have hands on location and money to  be made, the good of the consumer is usually last place.  Long story short, this material turns into mud when it rains, does not shed water but retains it thouroughly soaking the base underneath.  It tracks into our home and cars, even when dry and the good part is Jim Strickland charged me more than $3000.00 for the $800-$1200 job, telling me I had no clue about materials or the nature of application, even though I did take 2 years of university geology and in the 70's, operated Williams Paving and construction company for three years.  If you enjoy being lied to and cheated, hire this company
