Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel
$13,000
We hired CJ Hyatt to remodel our master bathroom. We moved the shower into the spot where our garden tub once stood, removed the popcorn ceiling, painted, installed new floors and had lots of tiling done. We started on time and things were fine at first. Things were so good that asked him to remove the wallpaper and install a new vanity in the second bath. About two weeks into the project, the master bathroom was demolished and the second bath was down to the sheetrock and the old vanity was removed. Things then came to a grinding halt. Our original contract for the master bath said he would be finished in 20 days. He lost a helper 10 days in (he says fired -- we aren't sure) and things got even slower. We have a log on our garage door. Most days, CJ didn't arrive 10 a.m. or later. The average work day was 6.5 hours. Multiple days, no one showed up. We finally got the second bath almost finished -- all but grout on the back splash and work once again moved into the master. On week eight, he finally grouted the floor. I had a concern about the grout color. We got into a disagreement. He said there was no color difference. After arguing about it, he finally said it was a wiping issue. I thought we had moved on ... Two weeks later he walked off the job with the job unfinished. The floor of the shower is not grouted. There is an area of the floor that wasn't grouted with the rest. The plumbing isn't in. The electrical isn't finished and he (or his second workman) put a hole in our ceiling on the day he quit. Now we have to hire a second contract to finish the job. We have paid 90 percent of the original bill. We provided every supply requested. 90 percent of the job is not finished. His work is excellent. Things are level and straight, but he can't manage time or resources. There were frequent holes in his story about materials being damaged and now we are stuck with a mess that wasn't finished in 20 days, nor 30, but he walked out in 50 days. DO NOT HIRE CJ HYATT doing business as Hyatt Home Improvement unless he is working for a company that will supervise his time and materials.
