Mr. Hess was prompt, professional, did a good job, and was easy to get along with. He also has a reminder services to help you not forget to have your piano tuned once a year, a plus for me. Excellent service, and my piano sounds great.
Description of Work: Mr. Hess did a double tuning on my piano. This was needed because it had been so long since the piano had been tuned. I just looked at my checkbook and realize I made a mistake about the cost. It was $190, not $90. Still well worth it.

I contracted with Mr. Hess to replace the dampers, dress the hammers, clean the case and tune my 1960's Cable Nelson upright piano on January 2, 2013. He came yesterday to complete the work. The sound of the piano is just wonderful. However, I gave Mr. Hess a and quot;Dand quot; because he put 3 scratches and one small dent in the veneer when he was reassembling the piano. Granted the piano has several scratches and I will be refinishing it, however, I didn't need anymore in places were there were none to begin with!! Then, last night I noticed that the finish on couple of the news keys is scrapped off. I don't know if this happened when he was placing the dampers back in or if they came this way but the dampers were supposed to be brand new. I also didn't appreciate the fact that Mr. Hess did not tell me it would take approximately four hours to put everything back together. I had to cancel an appointment to accomodate him. I guess my fault for not knowing what questions to ask in the beginning. I did not know that he would be dressing the hammes there in my living room. Regarding price, not sure how it compares. My tight schedule did not allow me to shop around. I guess I just expected way more considering what it cost me to redo my piano.

Response from Greg Hess
In regards to Member piano. She inspected the piano prior to my leaving and there were no issues. She was happy and satisfied. . Much of the work including installation of the damper felt, filing of the keys and tuning occurs on sight and is labor intensive. Each damper felt is fitted by hand and must fit correctly in order for it to work properly. With new key tops, filing of the new tops is done when re installing to insure proper fit and function. The alternative to the on sight work would have been to move the entire piano to the shop and returned when the work was completed. This would have been an additional charge which is unnecessary.. In addition, her piano was close to 1 full half step flat. This requires a procedure known as a pitch raise, which is basically a double tuning in one setting. it takes about 2 hours to do this procedure and great care is taken to prevent string breakage. This was explained at the time we contracted the work. I take great pride in my work and want my customers to be satisfied .I have yet to hear from her personally about these issues. In addition, the price I quoted at the time of estimate is the price she paid upon completion of the job. She expressed no dissatisfaction to me at that time.

Greg returned my message promptly and scheduled for the next day. He was nice to my kiddos, didn't mess around, took just over an hour to tune my piano. He was able to use a combination of electronic and ear tuning on my 40 year old Wurlitzer. Everything went smoothly. He came recommended by some friends.
