I do not recommend A Plus Transmission I took my vehicle to the Round Rock location based on a recommendation from a trusted mechanic. Unfortunately, while my vehicle was there, A Plus reassigned the manager due to service issues. More unfortunately, the new manager wasn’t much better. I told them I had been to two mechanics who said I had a transmission issue. The car had a hard time shifting in gear properly, made a noise, and the acceleration hesitated. A Plus had my car for over a week. The manager would never call me. I had to call him every day. Once when I called I got the new manager who didn’t even know my car had been there for a week already. I was on his list to call. Then I got what I thought was good news - no transmission issue! Just needed a new shifter and shifter cable. I was happy because I told the original manager that if it was thousands of dollars, I wouldn’t get it fixed. I would sell it for parts. It’s a 2008 Jeep Patriot. I had just dropped $400 for new tires and didn’t want to lose more money. The new manager says he’s going to give me a “SMOKING HOT DEAL” because of the poor service I received. Smoking hot deal to him was $175 off a $750 bill. That’s a little over 20% discount. Not what I’d call a “SMOKING HOT DEAL” but hey I’ll take it! When they call me to say my car is repaired and ready for pick up, they say that the technician who drove it heard a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing issue. So I take it back to my trusted mechanic. He has two technicians look at the vehicle and drive it. The shop owner is a mechanic, and he drives it. He also has another shop owner drive it. They all say it’s not a wheel bearing issue. They say it’s the differential in the transmission, and they don’t understand how A Plus could miss it. They call A Plus back and get a defensive response. My trusted mechanic apologized profusely. I’m the second customer that week that has complained about A Plus. They’re not going to recommend them anymore. I take it to a different transmission shop and they say yes, it’s a transmission issue. Estimated cost is $4200. Well, I paid $4500 for the car two years ago. I’m not going to sink thousands of dollars into this car. I had already warned the A Plus manager that if the second opinion found a transmission issue worth thousands of dollars, I was calling back for a refund. I only got the work done that A Plus suggested because they said there was no transmission issue. Of course the new manager stonewalls me and talks to me about being “reasonable.” He gives me the name of the owner but no phone number or email to contact him, and says he will leave the owner a message to contact me. Four days go by, and I start contacting people. I finally get the number of the owner and speak to him. He pushes me off to his GM, because he’s got “several businesses and he’s far removed from” the day to day activities. The GM calls me the next day from his vacation. Our call is cut off but we finally speak and I tell him my issue. Apparently this GM was present the day my car was finished, and he himself drove it and said there was a noise, which he thought was a wheel bearing issue. Convenient, right? That’s what I’m thinking, but I listen patiently. He tells me the noise didn’t exist until after the shifter and shifter cable were replaced. Not true. Then he tells me he will talk to the owner and get back to me. I clarified my position and request multiple times - a full refund because they misdiagnosed my vehicle and as a result I paid for repairs I would not have approved. Next day, GM is supposed to call me but has to reschedule. Finally calls me today and goes through a very long list of what their process is to diagnose a transmission issue. He basically said my vehicle showed no signs warranting them taking the transmission out and looking further. Once they confirmed the issue with the shifter and shifter cable, they basically fixed that and closed it up and said that’s that, folks! They offered to remove the new shifter and cable shifter and replace it with the old, broken parts, which was pretty insulting. I would have to waste my time going back there to have them potentially mess it up more. I would have no guarantee I would be able to drive it after that, and it could definitely lower the money I could get for selling it. I told them I didn’t trust them to diagnose the car properly and just wanted my refund. The GM refused, as well as the owner, so here we are. It sounds like their reputation is declining anyway, so I’m just confirming they aren’t worth your business.

Not good at all. After the third week in the shop , maybe it's ok. Talked to the owner ,he said that transmissions are complicated and that when a car gets overhauled it might take a month. Which made me wonder , this not an engin it's a transmissions. That being said , i was not offered a loner car on any one of the three weeks. A suspect governor was not replaced the second week after they said that that was what they were waiting for , the third time I took it in they adjusted a cable under the hood. It worked for a day and finally to make things worse I was asked to bring it back a week after school started because they were swamped and I would drive by and see my truck sitting, I was also told by the owner that my truck was and older model 1993 Dakota . I would not recommend taking an"older model truck" to a pluse , I was not satisfied with their service!

Very informative service, giving you all the details of repair and the cost up front. Work is guaranteed for 1 year. All staff are friendly and helpful. Phone calls on progress of the work are answered immediately. This company has an agreement with Red McComb to rent customers a cr at half the price of any other competitor. McComb picks you up at the transmission shop and drops you off when your car is finisihed. They also refer you to shops who can fix other needed problems at low prices. Easily one of the very best automobile repair companies with whom I have ever dealt. Highly recommended.

Contacted A+ and they did a very good job explaining what could be done
but only after the transmission was pulled out and examined. They
provided a loaner vehicle and the job was well done.

Ran OK for the 1 year warranty period, and for 1 month more, then started acting up with hard shifts, getting worse as time went on. Finally got too bad to drive with confidence, so I took it back to them on 2/22/2010. They did a fluid change and added BG ATC additive and said to try it. I drove away with a marginally better shift.Within a few weeks, the shifting started to deteriorate badly and I took it back to the shop They said it was due to a bad lock-up solenoid (which they neglected to replace with the initial re-build). Paid $589.05 for that. Drove away with a marginally better shift, but almost immediately the rough shifting returned and got worse. The shop said that all they could do would be another complete rebuild at a cost of $2000-3000. I said "no thanks", limped away and bought another car.
Response from A Plus Transmission Specialists
"My name is Glen R. Mewborn. I am the owner of A Plus Transmission Specialists. I would like to respond to the member's concerns. We take these things extremely seriously. It is very unfortunate that the member did not have a pleasant experience regarding his transmission problems. These things never are easy, fun or inexpensive. We do take customer issues very seriously, as evidenced by our consistent A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We endeavor to minimize the negative side of transmission repair, but it is what it is regarding stress, inconvenience and expense. That is why we offer free diagnosis, free towing and free loaner car with a major repair. Transmission work is extremely expensive to produce, which any person can gather by doing some basic internet searching for average repair costs, etc. The member, as is standard in our industry, received a 12 month, 12000 mile warranty. Additional warranty is available for purchase at the time of delivery, which the member opted not to purchase. It is rare that a vehicle comes back to us at all, but it does happen from time to time. If a customer is ever out of their warranty period, they are certainly treated with deference due to being our existing customer. We extend commercial rate-type pricing if someone is ever in that position. We do take care of them, even if they're out of warranty. I wish the member had contacted me directly with this concern. I have always had an open door policy, which has served us very well. A lot of the things I do are based on my past military and overseas experiences. I would have jumped on the chance to make his day a happy one. We are a great company with a great reputation. We do work for UPS, Carmax, YellowCab, City of Converse, City of Schertz, U S Postal Service, etc. We would not have such an extensive client list if we were anything but totally honest, capable and professional when dealing with our customers. Again the member I apologize that you have perceived your experience with us as anything but pleasant and professional."
