They always come out when we need them and we have never had any problems with them. We have been using them for years.

I had two air conditioner units not working a small unit not blowing cold air and the large unit not blowing any air at all and it had a frozen line. Both air conditioners were down.  I called Randall's Refrigeration A/C & Heating who I have used for 10 years off and on because they were the ones who installed my unit when my house was built in 2001.  The service guy Dave comes out to fix both units.  The small unit, he puts 5 lbs of freon in and and charged $59.95 per pound plus $70+ for service fee a total of $452+.  The other A/C Company charges $45 for Freon. The larger unit, had ice on the line and he said he couldn't fix it until the ice melts and it was probably frozen in the coils in the attic and it had a terrible leak from the looks of it. He at first never went up in the attic to check on the furnace unit to confirm what he was saying.  I convinced him to go up and take a look at the large unit (5 Ton Unit) to show me the ice on the coils.  So when he went up to prove to me there was ice on the coils, he discovered that the fan was not blowing at all.  So he took it apart, tested the furnace and said I would need a new motor a cost of $1297 or better to replace whole thing $3100.  Since I was a preferred customer they would charge me $2700. So I was convinced to go ahead and get new since I there is no guarantee that the motherboard wasn't fried and if I am paying 50% for just a motor minus well pay for a new furnace and get better warranty on the system and it would be an updated system.  He left all the screws out of the A/C unit so that I couldn't try to use it.  I called another A/C company who came out and they tested the same unit and was able to start the fan blowing and the motor tested fine.  The Motherboard was fine too.  The problem was the valve not opening and shutting properly and it was stuck which caused the air conditioner to freeze.  They also discovered I never had a starter kit put on my large unit when the house was built to protect the compressor.  Randall's is the one who installed my large A/C unit and left this part off and for 11 years I ran my A/C without protecting my compressor.  I had the other A/C Company install it and all work was a total of $600+.  Which was much better than paying for a new A/C unit I didn't  need.  I felt like I was set up to be cheated by this company and I WILL NOT be using them again anymore to service my A/C!
Response from Randall's Refrigeration
"As the manager of Randall's Refrigeration, it is my job to insure that customers are 100% satisfied. That being said, I have talked to the technician and warned him of attempting to make a sale on new equipment in lieu of repair, and taking his time to properly assess the entire problem. At times, the equipment may be frozen, and needs time to thaw before the problem can be properly assessed. In this case, I don't believe my tech proceeded in the proper manner. He has been warned of this type of action, and will be under my scrutiny to insure that this type of thing never happens again. As for [member name removed], I would like to extend my sincerest apologies and hope that she may re-consider using our services in the future. I will offer a free service call or system check as a good will gesture. On the subject of "compressor protection": we do not install start kits on new equipment for several reasons. The first is that some manufacturers install them from the factory; most do not because the start kit actually does not protect the compressor. Studies have shown that installing start kits (after market) do not save the compressor, but can actually decrease the life of the compressor. The after market start kits are created for two purposes; the first is a sales pitch to increase or protect the compressor, which normally does not perform the intended purpose. The second is to "jump start" a compressor that may not start otherwise. This would indicate that the compressor is older and possibly needs to be replaced soon. This can be utilized when a customer cannot afford to replace the compressor (or the outdoor unit) at said time, and can help the compressor until such time as it can be replaced. Once again, I apologize to [member name removed] for the discourteous service she received from my tech. Our company will continue to strive for excellence in service to our customers."

They did a great job. They finished the entire project in one day. Everything was clean when they left. They sent a technician the following day to check if everything is still fine.

It is really a love and hate situation. The technicians are all very nice but there are a few problems. The company locates at Tomball and the technicians can be held up by traffic. Thus, one may spend a while waiting. This time, the technician was off sick on the day I he was supposed to come but the company failed to notify me and I lost half a day of work for nothing. On the good side, the technicians are really good. They are clean, courteous and professional. They know what they are doing and I trust their workmanship. The price is a major consideration. For this repair, the first guy came out and just took a look at the situation. He did not even climb up my roof. For that - I mean doing next to nothing - he charged me $79.95. The second guy came with his long ladder and but still could not reached the roof. So, he went into my attic and worked out that the gap could be sealed from the inside. He was surprised that the first technician did not just fix it on the spot. For the second definitive call, I was charged $125. Life is a bit like this - if you don't know how to do something, then you will need to pay someone to do it for you. When life is too busy, one cannot be too fussy. I just don't have the time to get multiple quotations.

I got a very good response from Randall's Refrigeration. They answered all of my questions and cleaned up all of their material afterwards. I use them semi annually and originally bought the air conditioner from them.

It was extremely difficult to find a company to do the installation since the type of refrigerant needed was unique and difficult to find. Randall came out the same day we called to give us an estimate. They were not sure if they could find the refrigerant but kept in constant contact with us. They did end up finding it and scheduling the work in a timely manner. The workers showed up on time and completed the job in the time they had estimated and at the cost they had estimated.

"Apparently, [member name removed] has no specific details to give us on this negative review. It seems the system was installed 8 years ago, and he was not satisfied. I am dismayed by this, but cannot give a proper response without details of what actually went wrong. I feel this review should be updated with details or deleted due to the lack thereof, and the length of time since the service was performed."

This problem occurred after hours. Randall s arrived only an hour after we called. We considered this an emergency, so their technician did too. He was very nice about having to come over at nine in the evening, and repaired the system by ten thirty. He explained the problem to us, and showed us how to check the drain and overflow connections.

This was the second trip to our house for Randall s to repair this particular unit. The first was several years ago for an unrelated problem. The unit was repaired in a couple of hours and the job was done efficiently. The work area was cleaned and the technicians were reasonably professional. The air conditioning has worked well since repairs were made.

We had the air conditioner put in a few years ago by Randall, who did a good job- a bit pricey for the time, but it was well done. Then we switched to other companies in order to save money, but those companies kept trying to get us to spend more money for equipment we didn't need, so we went back to Randall. They didn't turn out to be as expensive as their competitors, & they are consistently reliable.
