New Tex installed the Rinnai tankless water heaters, and when we moved into the house, we could not get hot water at our faucets. New Tex sent out 3 different plumbers on five occasions during the first two months after we took possession of our home. At first, the New Tex plumbers tried to convince us the problem was the water-conserving filters on our faucets. Billy, the New Tex owner?s son told me he is a master plumber, and there is nothing wrong with our hot water systems. A New Tex plumber, during one visit to my house, manually turned up our tankless hot water to 140 degrees, because I complained that the water was never hot. I have since learned from another plumbing company that a plumber cannot adjust hot water to scalding---and had I been scaled as a result, I could have sued New Tex.
Out of frustration, I finally hired (out of my own pocket) another plumbing company for a second opinion on 8/7/13. The very professional plumber who works for Milton Frank Plumbing diagnosed the problem in 15 minutes.
Because the house was plumbed for conventional hot water heaters, the tankless hot water heaters were connected to one main hot water pipe. When we would turn on the faucet to get hot water, the tankless hot water heaters would be ?confused,? because they were feeding into the same hot pipe, and they would both try to turn on, but would then turn off. The New Tex plumbers did not catch this mistake. Neither did my builder?s site supervisor. On 8/9/13, New Tex sent a worker out to my house, and the hot water pipe was cut/capped to enable each tankless water heater to work on its own. However the plumber advised me that due to the original plumbing in the attic, he could not supply hot water to my coffee bar (in my master bedroom) from the closest Rinnai hot water heater. Instead, water has to travel from the third floor attic on the opposite side of my house to supply hot water to my coffee bar sink. As a result, it takes almost two minutes for hot water to reach my coffee bar sink. This is not acceptable.
When I spoke directly with the New Tex master plumber today (Billy), he was at first prepared to supply me with something under my kitchen sink---at a cost to me of $275 per unit---that would help me get hot water (I have no idea what that ?something? is.), but when I reminded him that neither my washing machine, laundry room sink/faucet, or master bedroom coffee bar were getting hot water fast enough, he told me I need to discuss my hot water (or lack thereof) issues with my builder. He told me that until my builder instructs him to do more work at my house, New Tex considers that they have finished the job the way they were instructed, and that by cutting/capping the hot water line last week to enable each tankless water heater to operate on its own, they consider this case closed.
This is not acceptable. I am sending a copy of this complaint to my builder (Termeer and Associates/aka Termeer Design group), and I am asking that what ever is needed for us to get hot water at our sinks in a timely manner, then Termeer and Associates needs to instruct New Tex (or what ever plumber they choose to use) to do what it takes for me to get hot water at my sinks in a timely manner.
Also, when the Milton Frank Plumbing plumber was at my house diagnosing what New Tex plumbed wrong, he noticed my water chiller and filter were installed in the opposite (wrong) order, and the exterior of my water filter was iced over/condensation. I also paid the Milton Frank plumber to correct that New Tex error.
"All plumbing issues were resolved."
