Last week during a storm here in Conroe, a transformer blew - and so did my iMac computer. I had not done a backup, because I was preparing to get a new computer, and I was working to a deadline. Somehow, it was disconnected from the power backup that was supposed to protect it. It was dead. We called everybody - and Best Buy recommended Need Computer Help at 4200 Research Forest Dr Ste 140 in The Woodlands, TX . By that time, I had talked to enough people to know that there was a very slim chance anything could be done - especially not in the time frame I was working with. But when I called them, they told me to bring it in, and when I explained the deadline, the manager put somebody on it right away. He told me they'd do the best they could, but the chances were not great. An hour or so later they called and said the hard drive was gone, but they thought they could retrieve "some" data - they'd do the best they could. They had to bring it over piece by piece - and I couldn't believe how much they were able to painstakingly rescue for me. They were wonderful - they even let me cry - They explained the options, told me about how much it would cost, and were extremely helpful. It took 2 days, and I was ready to pay a hefty price - it was worth it to have my data, my pictures, my scripts, my articles, etc., and the legal docs I was preparing - but I was amazed that they charged me what they had quoted. I knew they'd worked a lot of hours, and it would have been worth it to me to pay a lot more. As desperate as I was, they really could have gouged me, but they didn't. When I got home and got it up and running, I was even more amazed at how much they had been able to retrieve: years of pictures, family data, personal stuff, and most of the professional stuff that was otherwise irreplaceable to me. The next day we took my granddaughter's laptop in and told them there's no rush on this one. I would recommend them to everybody, whether you have a personal computer or one you use for business. I also think it's worth it to consult with them so you don't have a problem like this; they can help you prevent problems. They really know what they're doing, and they also know how to talk to those of us who are not born computer people. I've learned my lesson. I've got a backup now, and I'm going to do it every day. I had some important data on my old Mac G3 that I needed to access and preserve. Tom Limon of Need Computer Help? had a great solution in buying the same computer model on the internet and taking out the motherboard to replace my burned out one. He also transferred extra memory from the internet computer to mine. As a precaution, Tom also backed up all the data from my old Mac G3 to my Mac G5. I liked Tom's work so well that he is coming back to add Windows to my dual processor Mac G5 plus he is adding a second hard drive that will automatically back up daily. (I do not want to repeat the nearly disastrous experience of losing data on my Mac G3.) Another associate from Need Computer Help, Collin, is helping me re-design my website and add a shopping cart.
