Home Advisor supplied a list of irrigation companies to fix
a water leak in our backyard and to adjust all the sprinkler heads. L.I.S./Jesus Tapia’s secretary called and
said he was in the area and would provide a free estimate. Jesus came to our house and we discussed his
fees. He wanted $100 to find and fix the
leak and, when I said I have another company that will do it for $85 he
countered with $75. We agreed and said
we’d talk about the sprinkler adjustment when he finished. By good fortune, the pool fill line was on
when we went to the backyard and that clearly showed the leak. Jesus dug a hole and saw the broken pipe,
fixed it and then we tested the fix.
Another leak was found just below the one he fixed. He’d only been here 30 minutes but announced
that he would need to charge $100 to fix the leaks. We argued that point and I said I could go
for $90 but wasn’t happy. He wanted $100
so I said if I gave him the $100 that would be the end of job for him so he
agreed to $90.
Once the fix was made, we tested the sprinkler system and
found several problems. I asked how much
to fix the whole thing and he said $200.
I asked how much time it would take and got the response more than 2,
probably 2 and frac12; hours. I agreed and he started
repairs. In an hour, he was pretty much
done but left a few problems that I pointed out. He fixed them and I gave him a check for
$290. He complained asking “where did
you get that number?” I replied “from
you” but it was clear he wanted more money and tried to give me the check
back. I said “that was our agreement”
and he complained that he need $85 per hour and money for parts. He was here 2 hours (he claims 2 hours and 13
minutes) but that would be $170 on top of the $90. He stormed off in a huff and I went into the
house. I went to his truck and offered
him $20 for the parts – a few couples and some pipe – but he refused, gave me a
receipt and left. The pipe he used was
cheap and the fix was clumsy so I’m sure another winter like the last will
require his repairs to be done again.

I emailed Brenda to schedule an appointment for an estimate last night a little after 9p. She responded within 15 minutes to let me know someone could come out the next day, which was today between 11a-1p. I responded that would be perfect and would seem them then. Jesus and Miguel showed up 10 minutes early for the estimate. This was my first time using Angie's List as I have been turned off from trying to find providers using free services. I was shocked they were here and that they were even a little early. Jesus initially informed me he could take care of my problem for $200 unless some other unforeseen issues arose during the repair. I was going to have someone come out Monday and let him know the earliest I could do anything would be next Friday but would let him know Monday at the latest. Jesus said he would do it for $150 unless anything else came up. I agreed, then he and Miguel expediently began working. They kept me updated of their progress the entire time. The first thing they advised me was the nature of the initial leak causing my water bill to skyrocket. They repaired that problem in no time. They also checked the entire system free of charge. This check showed a couple of issues with sprinkler heads being buried and requiring adjustment to spray in the correct direction and another leak in the front. They explained what they were doing, why they were doing it, and offered some future self-help advice to ensure my sprinkler system works efficiently and effectively. They completed the entire repair and even programmed my sprinkler system for me in under 2 hours. They provided a 6 month warranty on parts and labor as well. If you can't tell, I am beyond impressed with the overall level of service I received and will contact LIS for any questions/consultations or future repairs. My advice, if you want a job done well and efficiently the first time, use LIS. You will not regret the decision.

LIS did such a great job for me on another property that I hired them again. They installed a new sprinkler system cleaned up the yard and installed new sod. I wanted additional work done and they came back first thing the next day to complete it for me. Prices were very reasonable and good value. Guys were great to work with and very professional. Will certainly use them again.
