Rudy's was hired to paint two 1,000 square foot apartments (2 bedroom/2bath). We were quoted a price of $42.50 per hour, including materials. The contractor spent 37.75 hours on ONE apartment and made a complete mess in the process. There was paint in the grass and bushes where they washed their brushes out. They did not clean up after the job at all. They brought us a bill for the first apartment in the amount of $1700. We informed them when we first met that we typically paid $400 per unit for a full paint. They said that would not be a problem. Upon receiving the invoice for $1700, we asked them to stop work on the second unit immediately. They claim to have already spent 26 hours on this unit and it still wasn't finished. 2 guys, a sprayer and that many hours would be enough to paint a modest size home! They were dishonest about the cost of the job and unfair in their billing. Not to mention the work itself was horrible.
Response from Rudy's Repair & Remodel LLC
"Rudys responded to a call by the property manager, who was in dire straights for a paint crew to make ready two units that were in the process of a remodel, we told the property manager that we could pull painters off of another project and be there the next morning at an hourly rate of $50.00 per hour for a lead painter and a painters helper, she was very happy that we could rearrange our schedule and accommodate her situation, She signed the proposal for $50.00 per hour, we had to cover windows etc., prime all doors and trim and cabinets with oil based primer to cover oil based paint and top coat with latex, we sprayed paint on all ceilings, we sprayed a second color on trim and doors, we sprayed cabinets inside and out, we rolled and brushed walls, the maintenance man who was doing painting in another unit said "it looks great" lots of prep work and paint work done here. when I reviewed the hours for billing I took it upon myself the only charge $42.50 per hour to lower the total invoice (I was not asked to, I just thought it would be a good gesture), the manager saw us working on the apartment for several days and now all the sudden it took too long? We have been in business 18+ years and have hundreds of satisfied repeat customers, apartment complexes are sometimes looking for professional results but want to pay minimum wage rates. we as of yet have not been paid for either apartment we worked on. The manager wanted our services and we were her best friend when we were able to start asap, she signed the proposal authorizing us to do the work, when we were finished with the 3-color premium paint job and turned in the bill, she forwarded to the property owner who was upset with her about the price she agreed to, so she turned on us. we simply did what we were asked to do and a rate that was lower that what she agreed to."

It looked to me that there may be a slight sag in a corner of my house. Rudy's representative came to the appointment on time. Performed a professional set of measurements and provided me with a quote (much less than other companies contacted) to perform the minor leveling. |I choose not to do the work at this time, but will call on Rudy's when I decide to do so.

It went fine until I asked for an estimate on painting entire home...Then the price of poker went sky high. I ended up getting another contractor to paint home.

They did a good job. It took three days. I just thought it was a two day job. They did pick up after the job was done. Over all they did a good job.

I have to admit they do excellent work. We've used them twice. On the aforementioned job the ultimate quoted price was significantly greater than the "worst case scenario" price mentioned initially. I told him we would go elsewhere and the price came down. There was some bargaining necessary on a previous job, also. I hadn't learned my lesson. They display the Christian fish on their vehicles and signage. That implies that they may hold themselves to a higher moral standard. But in Central Texas, it is will also get you more business Due to problems with upward estimate creep we won't use them again.

Main problem was the rude supervisor. Also, despite my repeated requests, several parts of the work agreed upon were not completed as was promised. No sense listing them all, but I wouldn't work with the supervisor again, only Rudy, who I met only once.
Response from Rudy's Repair & Remodel LLC
"I truly apologize for the rude supervisor, unless a customer contacts us we would not be aware of such behavior. I know Rudy is very professional & would not want any of his employee/estimators not giving the customer a 110%, whether that be in behavior & attitude to working with every customer & their needs for home improvements . Thank you for sharing your experience this is how we go about correcting any issues & improving the company. I will share this information with my husband Rudy & we will make the necessary improvements for further jobs/estimates. I hope that we can do business again, we really do strive to make your home improvements a pleasant experience."

I used this company a few years ago for water and mold removal at my parents' house, and I was very pleased with their work. I was impressed by the owner and his business and with eveyrthing they do.
Unfortunately in this recent case, I did not know that the wood floors in the house we purchased were not sealed floors. I also did not know that nothing would be put on the floors - underneath the foggers - to protect them. As a result, we found spots on the wood floor that would not come out. And, the disappointing thing was that they did not take any responsibility for the problem. They told me this had never happened before. After a couple of phone conversations, we realized they were not going to help with the issue, so we just dropped it. I made phone calls to various floor businesses for suggestions on what to do. To date, nothing much has helped.
I would hope that they would be more careful in the future when using the foggers. I know that I will if I ever need something like this done again.
You do not give a "Maybe" option above for the question, "Would you use this company/individual again in the future?," so I had to answer "Yes." I might consider them again for other services. This was possibly an isolated incident. We didn't have full knowledge of the floors in the house, and the young man sent to perform the service did not know to attempt to protect the floors. I would think that would be standard practice.

I used Rudy's Exterior and Interior. They did not leave a mess. They got it repaired. No problem. The guy that did the estimate was very knowledgeable. They did a great job. They were a little expensive. The quality of work was worth it. I will use them again in the future.

Great. This was our first experience with remodeling. Thought that it would be finished in 2 weeks, took 3 weeks. Other than that, great experience. Professionals all the way. Cleaned up nicely and did not leave a big mess. Had a wild flower growing in the way of the construction. The guys even transplanted it out of the way and it thrived!

There was a language barrier. The first painter only spoke Spanish. I believe if the painter had understood the job requirements there would not have been a problem. The contractor/supervisor should have ensured the painter understood the problem being corrected; that being a bad surface preparation from a previous paint job done by a different painter.

We called Rudy,s and they responded quickly. They gave us a reasonable estimate. We hired them and they came i about 2 weeks. The foreman walked us through the needed repairs. The workers came in and went to work. This repair took about 3 days and was well done.

Quick to come out and give estimate: under 1 week.

Quick to come out and perform work after quote: under 1 week.

Did not try to sell services that could have been quoted, but were not needed, as other company had.

Very good results from worker, Jose T.

Finished work in half the estimated time with half the estimated manpower. As a result, my cost was just a little more than other quotes.

Worker called before arrival and arrived shortly after.

Worker protected home furnishings and even cleaned up more than what little mess he made.

Worker talked me through everything he was doing and why.

*** Highly recommend worker Jose T. If you can request him, I would suggest doing just that. ***

The estimate looked good, but was confused when the work started. I thought they would replace some of the siding, but instead they but treated wood over the old siding. After we got that resolved the work continued. A few days after the work was completed, it rained and my gutters started leaking and overflowing. I called and Rudy's followed with some repairs. A few days later it rained again and again my gutters were leaking and overflowing. I called and started getting the cold shoulder. Rudy's would respond to any of my calls and complaints. I must have called about 10 times and they never did call back. Very disappointed, especially because they promote themselves as a Christian based business.

Wanted some repairs done for my elderly mother, including finishing a paint job an independent painter did not complete. Looking for someone trustworthy, respectful, responsible to "say what they'll do, do what they say, show up on time and finish on time." Also wanted a single person (contractor) to coordinate all work, though scope was a bit varied...didn't want my mom to have to deal with phoning a number of repairmen and arranging to be on hand with a lot of ins/outs...simple, quick, and turnkey. I called Rudy's because they'd done a minor job for me years back and was pleased. Also, they're one of the few BBB-certified general repair/remodel firms in the area. and, I knew they could do everything I asked. They are not inexpensive, but I think they are fair. I would characterize it this way: if you think you'll save money by hiring one person to do it all, think again...you'll still probably pay "scale" with Rudy's, but you don't have to coordinate a thing. I've read they give a break to return customers...I intend to ask for one next time for myself or for my mom. I told Rudy's I was the financier but Mom was their boss. They 100% respected that and contacted me for pricing, approval and payment and coordinate the visits to estimate and the subsequent workdays with my mom. They showed up exactly when they said they would and took exactly as long as they estimated to perform the work. Plus, my mom was not feeling well during the time the work was being done...she became lightheaded and fainted for a brief time one day, in fact. This concerned the three guys on the job and they were very considerate and caring to watch over her that day in particular and make sure she was resting and not needing any medical attention. My mom found the workers very considerate, respectful, and courteous...she felt SAFE with them working in her home, which is priceless to me. They were clean in their work, and though we agreed to buy most materials in advance ourselves, they supplied some extra primer from their shop to save mom or me a trip to get paint and the plumber they use picked up the new toilet himself and charged only his cost on it...no delivery charge, either. The day they completed the job, they asked Mom if she was satisfied. She mentioned one of the ceiling fans wobbled a bit...but she was actually willing to live with it. The estimator came the next day and asked her if she was satisfied...again, she said "very much so, but one of the ceiling fans wobbles a little bit", and he promised to take it down and install it over again...which they did the next day. (Would have done it same day, but she had a doctor appointment.) Not until Mom was 100% satisfied did they email me a final invoice (exactly as estimated) and request payment. Again, if you want something "cheap", Rudy's may not be for you. But if you want "fair", on time, thorough, complete, no advance payment required, and you don't want to have to worry about a thing...call them. I highly recommend them for yourself or for anyone (like an elderly parent or neighbor/friend) who might be "vulnerable" in the company of jack-of-all-trades unknowns.

Friday: A workman from another company laying cable in the attic accidentally slipped off a rafter and his foot damaged the ceiling, maybe a one-foot square area. The company contracted with Rudy's to repair it. After a quick look at the damage, Rudy's rep made an appointment for the following Tuesday. Worker arrived on time, finished the work quickly, cleanly, and thoroughly. Out within about two hours, including re-texturing the ceiling area. We can't tell anything has ever been damaged. Note: Rudy's also did some extensive ceiling work for my son's home while installing new light fixtures and switches. After Rudy's finished, I couldn't tell where the holes had been cut, even though I knew exactly where they were!. Note: I think Rudy's is pricey. They certainly aren't the cheapest. But: NEGOTIATE -- they will deal with you. Whatever you agree on, the price will be well worth it.
