Don't call Top Hat Chimney Sweeps. I had them install a screen over the top of my chimney less than two years ago. Today, I heard some kind of animal in the chimney, so I called them to come back. Their guy was here less than 15 minutes and spent most of that on his phone. He quoted me $315 to fix the screen and add more, but said he didn't have the materials today and would have to come back. I said that was fine. Then he said that the call today, which accomplished nothing, would be $81! He didn't do anything - he didn't even have the ladders he needed to get up there, he just stood on the ground looking up at it the whole time! I said forget it and paid him that and said I'd call someone else. They obviously don't care about their customers or their work. Avoid Top Hat Chimney Sweeps!

Total ripoff for diagnostic that didn't find the actual problem. I call this company because my fireplace was not working properly. The pilot flame was fine but the main burner didn't fire. The technician came over, did few photos inside and outside, "check" for gas leak, etc and told me that thermocouple or thermopile (I don't remember) need to be replaced. I paid $194.85 for a visit and nothing was fixed. Later I received email with estimate for actual fix; it stated that pilot assembly needs to be replaced for $393.88. At this point I decided to check with different places and it turned out that the wall switch that starts the main fire was bad. The part was $0.98 and my fireplace is working again without replacing pilot. I call this company back to request a refund for the diagnostic that was wrong but they refused to give me my money back. When I said that the only thing that was needed to fix my fireplace was simple wall switch I was told that they are not electric company. I am glad I did't replace pilot assembly for $400 and will still have non working fireplace.

The service we got was above expectations. Originally I was told that this service could take up to two hours. The technician arrived on time and contacted us beforehand so we were ready to receive him. He did a thorough cleaning in approximately 30 minutes, showing us before and after pictures so we knew the job was done well. After that, he was on his way so we could get back to our days and feel confident that our home is safe.

They up sold their services so that we would include a fireplace and chimney inspection. The kid they initially sent did not inform us until AFTER he went onto the roof that there was an ADDITIONAL charge to do that. Well the first guy took 2 pictures with his phone and started to tell us that he could schedule the repairs he claimed were needed. We never received any written report or estimate. We called and complained to the "manager" who said she's send another person to re-do the "inspection". All that happened then was that the second guy spent more time trying to sell us on products and services that they would provide. He left and said he'd send the estimate to us as soon as he got to his truck. That was 3 weeks ago. I called the office today to find that their current "excuse" was that they had the wrong email address...INTERESTING since we emailed them on our initial contact and they responded to that?!?!?!?! THIS COMPANY is NOT WORTH DOING BUSINESS WITH! I will never use them again. Additionally, they even disrupted my planting bed when they did the dryer vent cleaning and NEVER even tried to straighten anything up. They are only out to up sell you and at best do very shoddy work - save your money and go elsewhere - They run a very dishonorable company

Not worth the money!!

This is the second time I used this company. The first time I was very happy with their service which is why I called them back. This time the person left a big mess in my utility room. Dryer sheets and bundles of lint that he got out of the vent were behind my dryer. Lint is still in my dryer and outside vent. He never showed me how much lint he got out. I am appalled how unprofessional this person was. I had to spend 30 minutes cleaning my utility room after he left. Not what I expected. I am giving them an F due to unprofessional service. I don't even know if he did the work. I heard the vacuum going but I have no evidence that he even cleaned the dryer vent. I contacted the company and they did not seem to want to rectify the situation to my satisfaction. They said they would send the owner out next week. I will be using my dryer between now and next week so he would not be able to see what was left behind. I would not recommend them at all.

Wow, what tremendous service! I called for an inspection to diagnose a leak that I thought was coming from my chimney. Royal arrived within 2 hours of my call which was amazing. He did a thorough inspection including taking pictures of the chimney and roof. It turned out that the problem was with the roof instead of the chimney so he left me a detailed description of the problem and a roofer recommendation. I only paid a nominal service charge for the visit which was well worth the expert advice!

If there was a 10-star rating system, this company would get 10 stars from me! Some background: in the course of an energy efficiency audit of our home, it was noted that the dryer vent shaft was severely clogged at the point of exit through the roof deck. Since I knew we had not had the vent cleaned in a very long time, I immediately sprung into action and started researching service companies. I am so glad I found Top Hat! My initial contact was via the website’s online contact form. Debbie immediately phoned me with the most friendly and enthusiastic personality I have experienced from a service company in quite some time. She understood my needs, and promptly scheduled a service call. When Royal arrived, he quickly analyzed my dryer vent situation and confirmed the findings by the energy audit. Noting an improper vent cap on the roof, he offered to replace it but recommended we contact our roofer to save money, as the 3-year-old roof was still under warranty. The roofer quickly replaced the cap (over the holiday weekend!) and removed as much of the clog as he could. Then Royal returned the next week and took care of the rest of the job. He went above and beyond the usual process of cleaning out the vent system. He also installed an additional screen in the vent cap, corrected an improperly installed flue pipe, and repaired the vent connection behind the dryer. Had he not been so thorough, we might have never known of some of these issues and inefficiencies. We noticed the results of the job immediately with shorter drying times and less heat build-up in the laundry room . . . not to mention the peace of mind knowing that we averted what could have easily a dryer vent related house fire. Scott arrived at the house on time and did a great job cleaning and inspecting the chimney.  Ours was rather dirty as a result of the length of time since last cleaned and because of the configuration/shape of our chimney.  Scott prepped the face of the fireplace to be sure nothing escaped during his sweep. He left the area very clean and explained to me his process of inspection and cleaning. Overall I was very satisfied.  I will definitely be calling them again in five years for our next cleaning and inspection.  As the cool weather approaches, they book up fast, so consider calling them in the off season.

They did such a great job you couldn't tell they had even screen and looks wonderful.
