Home Building
The home was beautifully done. No issues and on time.

Home Building
We chose Design Tech Home Builders in 2006 and would not suggest
them. Our home has a few design flaws,
like the utility room outside door opens outwards. When this odd design was brought to the
attention of the architect, we were given a bunch of baloney about fire codes,
although the other doors open inwards. I
believe the reason for hanging the door backwards is because we couldnot put
the washer in the room if the door was hung correctly. And so it went, with every concern we were
brushed off. I noted the contractors
taking short cuts and using inferior materials where they could get away with
it. In example; spliced studs, a sun
stained bath tub, notched tiles without using bullnose, builders? grade carpet
even though we paid for the upgrade. And the Harris County Appraisal District rates
our slab as B grade. It was suppose to
be 6 inches above ground, but it?s not and we have an ankle deep pond at the
end of the concrete drive when it rains. Other mistakes were corrected poorly, like a
miss placed vent hole cut to the outside through the master closet wall;
instead of replacing the whole siding board, it was patched. In the 7 years we?ve lived here we have had to
replace the hot water heaters, A/C, well water tank and motor.
Now we are having major plumbing problems. It took more than 4 weeks to for Degins Tech
to send out an inspector for a shower pan leak in the master bathroom which we
pray is covered by the 10 year warranty.
They now have the opportunity to redeem themselves
but I have a feeling we?ll be brushed off again.

Home Building
The company took almost two years to complete the FINAL< FINAL plans AFTER they already had about $3,000.00 non-refundable money "down". Our sales person was "let go" so numerous personal picks vanished between the months of personal decisions and what really was built. I thought so many items were already "listed" the way we wanted, that I miss the little details when INSPECTING the FINAL plans. When we would catch the difference on the job..."Oh, any change of plans cost $100.00 plus cost of materials and labor. " The site built fireplace was another disaster. If we hadn't brought in our own Chimney Sweep to do a professional inspection, the fireplace could have burned down the house or poisoned us with fumes. It was torn down twice.
I hate the house. We had the house designed to be wheelchair friendly--tall toilets, grab bars, almost all doors 3' doors, but the 3 arches connection the kitchen/family room to the rest of the house is 34.5", so we wont be able to get to the kitchen. Worse STILL, the recessed tub in the master bedroom is inaccessible. We built a steep wooden step to be able to climb in, but even with grab bars, I terrified I'll fall, especially getting out. Design Tech refused to admit there is anything wrong with the instillation of the tub even though the healthy, young superintendent couldn't easily step out of the tub either. The way the house foundation site and front driveway was placed, graded , and back filled, water runs down hill and down driveway straight to the front porch of the house. The porch is lower than the driveway eight feet away. We need to break out the front walkway to make drainage before the house get standing water inside from a rainstorm.
I'm looking for someone to remodel the master bath to make it usable. Even though my house is almost at the top of a hill, I have flood insurance because of how the land is graded and back filled.
The house is very well insulated. Our utility bills are very reasonable.
