My mistake, paying the second half before the job was done. I had to get back to my own job. When they left the clean up was not finished. I spent two days scraping studs, rafters for over spray. Over spray had hit one of my expensive Pella doors and had already cured. (cant be fixed now). When I was able to return to the site I could tell that they did not complete the job. small tools were missing. Areas that I had painted had not been corrected and as I stated previously the more you look the more you find so I still found place in attic application that were originally only 1/2 inch thick or bare. Along with hundreds of holes, divots, trenches in the foam. I used a digital laser thermometer (accuracy to 1/10,000 degrees) and could immediately see where holes in the foam or shallow places in the foam where reading 7-10 degrees warmer than where it was 2" thick. (but again the owner had explained to me that since the foam 'sealed' the building envelope I would have nothing to worry about)
Since I could not get Air-tight to return within a reasonable amount of time I had to proceed with my build. I spent $1000 ($312 for 36 ea of 24oz spray foam cans and $670 for a 600 sq ft spray foam kit) and spent a week trying to plug all of the holds, divots and trenches. I did finally get the walls done to the point that I could sheetrock but the attic will still require another two kits at 650 each.
I had two other contractors look at the job (before my fix and received quotes of 1600 to 2000 to finish the job. I could not do that all at once so I opted to get the walls done and do the attic later. Since my last phone conversation on Oct 6 with the owner I have had no calls nor any indication that Air-tight would honor their agreement to provide me with a 2 inch minimum..
At the very least my premium fee of $2500 should be returned.
What did I learn? never pay it all until completely satisfied. Yeah I know it was rookie mistake. Two inches is two inches by anyone's standard and I have the pictures and video to prove I am right. Air-tight did not provide the job I paid for and I would not trust them. Lastly, never hire if the owner is not willing to be there to supervise or inspect the work himself.
