We requested provider to determine and repair A/C unit he originally installed in our vacation home as part of original construction.  We thought it would be covered by warranty.  He arrived and determined that the "Control Board " needed replacing.  He did not have a control board with him. .  He stated that the board was covered by warranty but not the "labor".. He ordered  a second board which took a week. He returned and replaced the  board.  It appears to me that the HVAC now  work as it should.
He sent us an invoice that states "HVAC Labor Replace Control Board $2500."  The invoice did not break down the costs. I called him and he told me he charged $125 per hour including charging for travel time(three hours each way). He had 12 hours of travel time included .  Although he did not state travel expense on the invoice or tell us in advance, he charged $500 for milage. He claimed he did me a favor by bringing a smalled vechicle the second time .  Presumively the remaining charge is for actual work at the site.  He refused to give   

any labor warranty because of the time since installation, even though the unit was not in use for most of the time as the house is a second home.
Most importantly he failed to disclose up front  that he was charging me for travel time or a reimbursement rate for the truck. .In my view he should have disclosed rates in advance and we would not have hired him.  In my view he should have stocked the control board so two trips would not have been necessary.  Certainly providing an invoice without detail is not professional.
I paid this invoice by credit card. I do not have the expertise to determine if the situation warranted two trips.  DFC
