From my first phone call with Kristen- to my visit and installation with Jose, I simply can not say enough about my experience. Professional, courteous, and prompt are just some words I would use to describe Hartford Services. As a homeowner with anxiety over the purchase of a new AC for my home, Jose walked me through each step and made the system and process easy to understand. I was particularly impressed with the proactive follow up of the company after the installation. A very uncommon and high level of customer service. I am extremely pleased!

The technician took care of some issues that had been neglected because I was not told to do them upon purchase of the water heater.

Hartford charges $189 to come out and diagnose a problem. Ours was a tankless hot water heater problem. They came out, 4 times and never correctly diagnose the problem. Their plumber was nice, but unqualified. The dispatcher Laura, was incredibly rude. She insisted that each time the technician came out and did NOT fix or diagnose the problem that we would be charged 189 dollars. After paying 189 dollars 3 times, the 4th time I discussed with Laura that I would pay for it IF he diagnosed a problem that we could actually do something about and try to take up with the manufacturer regarding our warranty. Hartford's tech never could identify the problem, only tried to sell me a water softener that he would install for around 3K, and could never trouble shoot the problem beyond reading display code on the machine that wasn't changing because he didn't know how to reset the machine. After the 4th attempt, I called the manufacturers (Rinnai). They sent another company to come out, and the even agreed to pay for it, (mostly because I stated my displeasure with how Hartford was listed as certified to fix these heaters and couldn't do it.) Rinnai called Hartford to see if the tech had reset the heater. Hartford's tech lied to Rinnai and told them that he had reset it. When the new company came out he reset it, and this is when we discovered it had not been reset. Resetting it involves pressing 2 buttons for a few seconds. Because he reset it he was able to identify that there was a problem with one of the units' parts. Rinnai overnighted the parts that were covered under warranty, and they installed it the next day. It took this new company 2 days to fix what Hartford could not fix in 4 visits over 6 months. I really wish I had not called Hartford. Now, they have sent me to collections. I am receiving harassing phone calls and letter in the mail because, even after paying $567 for them to not fix a problem that was very easy for someone else to come fix, they insist that I pay for the 4th trip-- even though Laura had agreed verbally that I should only pay for it only if a diagnosis was made, and even though her tech on that visit made an incorrect assertion that my water needed softening, and suggested he install a $3,000 water softening machine. This was beyond frustrating for me, and frustrating that I found this company on Angie's list.

Just to throw it out there, I would have liked the problem I had to be fixed with fewer visits. That being said I am happy with the results and feel I got a fair price.
Visit 1 - The repair man came to my house and went up to the attic but the unit was frozen over. He turned it off, and told me he would come back the next day to check it.
Visit 2 - A different guy came by to visit (Manny), and told me refrigerant was leaking out of the copper line running from outside the house to the unit in my attic. He told me to fix the problem they would need to cut out the copper line, and by doing so rip out the drywall where it runs up the side of the house (meaning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors), and replace the entire line. He didn't have time to do that, so he filled me up with a couple pounds of refrigerant and said he would be back in a couple of weeks to check on it. He quoted me 1600 bucks for this work, and assured me they wouldn't be able to just cut out the leaky section of the pipe...the entire pipe needed to be replaced.
Visit 3 - Didn't happen. I waited at home for an appointment at 8AM, and at 9 I received a call from Hartford letting me know they wouldn't be able to make it that day. I'm familiar with the details, but for the sake of this posting I won't share. The family that runs Hartford had some personal issues which were understandable and out of their control. I wouldn't have made this appointment if I had been in their shoes.
After a month + of waiting for a call / reschedule I called back. They had forgotten about me, but were able to get me scheduled for the following Saturday.
Visit 4 - I got a call from them Saturday AM telling me they weren't going to be able to come out and do the repairs. I was not a happy camper as I already had a drywall contractor lined up to repair the mess Hartford was going to make by cutting out multiple sections of drywall in my home. Mitch called me and I explained my frustration...he came out personally to see the situation and assess it himself. He told me they would be able to cut out a small section of drywall in my garage, and replace the leaky line for 600 bucks. We got the next appointment scheduled on the spot.
Visit 5 - Manny came back and fixed the leaky section of the line and my AC has been working for several months.
As you can see...it was frustrating having so many visits / planned visits. Not only that but between Manny and Mitch I received conflicting advice on how to fix the problem...but in the end Mitch's advice saved me 1000 bucks. I only wanted the fit for purpose solution...and would recommend having Mitch come out to take a look at any major project before giving them the OK to proceed. I know I would trust Mitch in the future to let me know just what the minimum is I need to meet my objective.

My a/c stopped working late on a Friday. I called Hartford Service for assistance. I asked that someone be sent out immediately, but they did not want to come out and asked if they could come on Saturday instead. I agreed. He told me he would call back at 9am Saturday morning to schedule an appointment for Saturday. At 9:30, I still had not received a call, so I called them back. The person who answered the phone told me there was no record of my call from the night before, there was no one that could be sent to my house that day, and she would pass the information to a manager to call me back, but had no idea when the manager would call. He finally did call after 10am. Instead of apologizing for not calling first thing in the morning, his attitude was more like he was surprised that the a/c still needed to be serviced. I am very disappointed in Hartford. I have used them in the past to service my a/c, and they provided good customer service. Now, I feel they do not value me as a client.

I was pleased that he called right back and was very professional. He quoted his weekend price and his weekday service call price and offered me advice to get us through a very hot weekend without our A/C. I told him I'd call him back for a second opinion in the event that it does not work out with the warranty company.

The crew (3 man ) arrived at 8:30 AM as promised. The job was smooth from start to finish. The work was excellent. The crew cleaned up after themselves and hauled off all debris.
