After receiving multiple quotes ranging from A+ rated plumbers to ads found on craiglslist, I learned the A+ rated companies all had one thing in common?.They used Type-A PEX in lieu of the red / blue type commonly sold at home depot and other big box stores. After spending a considerable amount of time researching the various types of PEX, I decided that PEX-A was the way to go. It uses cold-expansion fittings (in lieu of clamps) that maintains the pipe diameter at each fitting. For those not familiar with clamp-type fittings, they require a smaller diameter end connection for the pipe to fit over which reduces the water flowrate. So if you have a 1/2? pipe feeding the shower for example, it?s actually closer to a 1/4?. PEX-A fittings, on the other hand, use a tool to expand the over the pipe (not inside) with no reduction of flowrate. For me, it was a no brainer?.
I elected to hire Jason because not only did he offer the most competitive price, but because he was very knowledgable and clearly explained the installation process to me.
Jason executed the job in 3 days and left us without water for only a few hours! He cares about his customers and went above and beyond the scope of work to ensure I was satisfied.
I highly recommend Jason for all your plumbing needs!
manufacturer (Whirlpool) sent a replacement pilot assembly, Mr. Luck
installed it. Another part had to be ordered and it too was
installed on his third trip. Two hours labor was charged for the repair.
Mr. Luck was very accommodating to schedule the repairs and always on-time. I would
gladly recommend Luck Plumbing for home plumbing repairs.
Mr. Luck asked us to not buy the Angie's List certificate as he was coming out the next day and we could pay him in cash. I now run when someone asks to do this. We later realized he was avoiding fees due to Angie's List and it is an indication of integrity.
We had two toilets to repair. One was running constantly and the other one was cycling. Mr. Luck arrived with his truck (just a personal pickup, no parts-- he had to go to Home Depot several times-- waste of everyone's time.) Neither toilet was repaired with the work he did. The master bath toilet was damaged as he "forgot" to retighten the tank-- leaving it crocked and rocking. This very unprofessional failure caused the plastic stick for flushing to break. It is attached to the plunger that does not move as it is held in place by the water causing the stick to break. After paying $280 and two service calls he wanted another $85 to fix the toilet on a 3rd service call.
We declined and requested our money back as neither toilet was fixed, we spent $280, he certainly does not understand basic plumbing if he cannot fix two toilets, and broke an additional item. After a number of phone calls, voice messages and text messages we finally heard back from Mr. Luck who refused at first to refund the money... then asked to have time to review his records regarding the refund. Again, many phone calls, voice messages and text messages before he responded he would send $109.
Bottom line, we paid $280 and he caused $85 in damage for a total of $365. He refunded $109... so we are out $256 and still have two broken toilets requiring another plumber to come out... a 4th appointment for what should have taken less than an hour.
Since I'm a project manager from Dallas and this rental home is in Houston, I did some research, set Monday appointments with 3 of the plumbing companies I spoke with, and expected to hire one of them for the project. The first thing that I learned about the plumbing industry in Houston was that most companies see re-pipes as a golden egg. They are unwilling to take these jobs on a T&M basis. None of the 3 companies were honest with me about this when I set the appointments. I had shared with them my construction management backround and my intent to hire the vendor on a T&M (time & material) basis. Being in the construction industry, I understood that vendors pad their fixed bids to ensure they don't come up short. All three companies sent a master plumber and a helper to bid the job and hopefully start the project. All three also provided fixed bids and were unwilling to take the project on a T&M basis.
When asked, they all said it would take 16-20 hours by a two man crew. The average cost the parts was about $1000. Here is the breakdown of their bids.
Company A bid $9000 (parts 1000, labor 8000) $8000/40 = $400 per crew hour
Company B bid $7400 (parts 1000, labor 6400) $6400/40 = $320 per crew hour
Company C bid $6200 (parts 1000, labor 5200) $5200/40 = $260 per crew hour
I had also spoke with Luck Plumbing on the phone about my project but Jason was tied up on a previous job. After my frustrating day with the 3 above mentioned companies, I called and scheduled Jason for early Wednesday morning. I requested to be Jason's helper to save a little extra on my project.
Luck Plumbing Total Cost $3825. This price included all the re-pipe parts plus new feed lines for the sinks. Jason also rebuilt both toilets while he had them removed.
I would highly recommend Jason Luck/Luck Plumbing.
