Below is my opinion of what happened with this contractor, Bill Brambaugh:
I had several jobs such as building a stair railing, building a child proof gate, installing child proof latches on doors and drawers, installing new locks on doors, and at the last minute from the contractors suggestion, I also had additional lighting installed in the garage.
I asked for and was given an all inclusive price quote for everything (other than the last minute lighting in the garage which was at the contractors suggestion) rather than an hourly fee. But then when he did the work, he broke it out into separate fees and then he also changed and increased the fee. The the installation of the childproof latches was done by a helper and took much longer than it should have and also was not done properly consistently so that about 6 out of the 25 or so will need to be redone. But I went ahead and paid him for the unnecessary hours spent and I paid him at the time instead of the all inclusive which he had promised me. Then, he suggested that I install additional lighting in my garage and then charged me separately for that which I paid, all before doing what I urgently needed which was to build a missing stair railing for my child's safety. Also, when he charged me for the lighting in the garage, he increased his hourly from what he had previously quoted me.
Then, he increased the price of the stair railing from what we had agreed upon a second time after we had discussed and I had made modifications to what I wanted done. And he did not seem to understand what was involved in building the railing. His second helper seemed to have a much better understanding. Then he did not show up on the day he was supposed to come and bring me sample railings to look at after I had rearranged my schedule to meet him. Then he wanted to change the way he had agreed that he would build the stair railing. When I questioned him about why the change was needed, it seemed clear that he did not understand himself, and instead of him just acknowledging that he had made a mistake earlier and that his helper had told him that something different would need to be done, he got a very rude, condescending, and verbally aggressive attitude with me, and he also called me "girl".
When I called him later and told him that I did not want him to do any further work because he had changed the plans, the price, and because I had lost confidence in him, he again became very rude and threatened to sue me, etc.
In my opinion, he appeared to be unstable and aggressive, and I felt concerned for my and my family's safety. (I now have multiple procedures and precautions in place to guard against and protect my family from this contractor.)
I told him to come pick up his tools and that I would pay for any outstanding expenses. I had him sign a letter saying that he would not harass me or come unto my property again. When I asked him for receipts, he had numerous items which I had paid for, but which he did not give to me. Such as tools and other supplies.
