Kitchen sprung a leak in the cabinet under the sink. Flooded 3 areas before we were able to get the main water supply turned off. It was my understanding that there was a broken valve or pipe (I wasn't there when it happened). This happened after hours so I called at 8 a.m. the following morning when they opened, but I got voice mail (left detailed message). After a second call later by my daughter, she was able to get an appointment for the following day, 11am-2pm time slot, with the promise to call 30 min. prior to arrival. Workman arrived during the scheduled timeframe, but did not call ahead of time. I was not there for his initial assessment (my daughter lives there, I do not). I was told that everything needed to be replaced, as the house was old (40+ yrs). This also included the garbage disposal, which I was told would cost $350-500 alone. The kitchen is in need of remodeling as well, and any extensive plumbing work needs to be done during that time. I just needed to be able to turn the water back on without it leaking, since we'd been without water for a day and a half already. The cost to get the water back on that day and replace the water lines was $225. I went ahead and signed for the work to be done. My daughter was on her way, but was questioning the high cost. The work order had the single total price. No breakdown for parts, labor or taxes. When I asked for a breakdown I was told "about $20 each" for the two hoses. I questioned whether there was a service charge or trip fee (which their website says they do not charge) and was told no, the remaining $185 was for labor and taxes. I then asked about the 10% Angie's List discount which I got. I told the gentleman that my daughter felt the price was high and that it was something she could fix herself. His response was "but she didn't". I'd already signed for the work, but I didn't know until after the fact that it was a 10 minute job that required no special tools or skills. This information was not given to me by the plumber. His helper completed the job while he wrote it up. I understand the need to mark up supplies and make a profit, but the amount charged was outrageous for the work that was done. I immediately checked the prices of those two hoses at the local hardware store and they ranged from $6-8 for each hose. I was charged $20 per hose. I wouldn't even complain about that had the labor charges for the actual time involved been reasonable. I feel like approximately $175 per hour for labor is out of line. And even if that was the actual hourly fee, it was so steep that it should've been pro-rated to the quarter hour that was actually spent working (if that long). I would've been happy with $20 per hose and $75 for labor. That would still have been a nice profit for this company. I really want to support my local small businesses and went with this company based on the few good reviews here and some others from neighbors on the Nextdoor App. Some customers bragged about how honest and upfront this company was and sometimes didn't even charge, just gave diagnosis if it was something that could clearly be done easily and economically by the homeowner. I did not have that same experience and feel like I was taken advantage of. Mechanics and attorneys pro-rate their hourly fees. Why can't this company? Are all plumbers $175 per hour for labor? I would not recommend this company.

Very smooth and efficient. Crew arrived on time, worked efficiently, and explained the process. The valve was very corroded and they were extremely careful in replacing it. The installation quality looked far better than the original as well.

About two years ago the pipe in my tub broke. I called out a plumber and he wanted $1,000 to fix it. I waited two years and when I called Bear's Plumbing it cost only $175.00. They were friendly, on time and efficient. I would highly recommend using this company.

Our garbage disposal seized and when I freed it, it started leaking. It was not leaking this morning when Eric arrived but he said the expected lifetime for a disposal was 10 years and if it were in his house, he would replace it. He gave me a fixed price ($325 labor and parts) which was reduced to $308.75 after adding taxes and using a 10% coupon from Angie's list. I thought that was a fair price. They flooring was a little wet under the sink but he said it was in good shape and did not need replaced. He suggested I air dry it with a fan for a day or two. I left him alone and in a short period of time he was done and ready to go. He didn't try to offer me an inspection of the house or a service contract. I will call him again when I have a plumbing problem.

I had contacted a few plumbing services to obtain estimates of the work. I initially believed that I only needed about ten feet of 4-inch sanitary sewer piping replaced, but upon Bear's serviceman arriving, and getting a camera into the pipe, it was determined that to properly service the issue, 25 feet of pipe should be replaced, in order to get beyond the damage, and also to provide a better slope for proper drainage. Although this was in excess of what I was quoted, I understood the need for the extra work, and approved the added cost. Unfortunately, the rains came right afterward, and the work had to be postponed for another week. On the day of the rescheduled work, the project foreman, Jose`, arrived on time, and laid out the trench for the excavation crew. Of course, all the nearby utilities had been previously located, and marked, and fortunately the paint hadn't been washed away by the rains. The excavation crew made good progress, and was finished within a couple hours, opening up a straight, clean trench, with all tree roots cut and cleared. The crew had removed the top layer of sod, and laid it aside for replacement later. They also used yellow plastic tape to rope off the trench for safety's sake. Jose` showed up the next day at the scheduled time, with an assistant, and immediately laid out the pipe and fittings, and within an hour or so, had completed the replacement. They left with all the old pipe and debris, and I left them a check for the agreed-upon maximum amount. Later that same day, the excavation crew returned, and back-filled the trench, tamping down each layer and ultimately leaving with all soil and sod replaced. The finished product looked almost as good as the original lawn! Upon opening my emails later, I had a message from the owner, Eric, informing me that since the depth of the trench wasn't in excess of what they'd anticipated, the maximum quoted amount was not required, I had a refund of $300.00 coming to me. That impressed me, as they could have simply kept the entire amount, and I wouldn't have noticed or complained. All in all, it was a very positive experience, and Bear's will now be my first choice for any future plumbing needs. Eric is an honest man of integrity and I am quite satisfied with his firm.

was very fast, went right to work. it was an old tub and the original switch did not fit perfect so quick fix was made. looks like a custom fit and works perfect. cost did not change. While he was there i showed him another issues. He called it in and gave me several solutions. great service and value. very knowledgeable.

Kevin and Andy's first visit was on 4/1/15 for the estimate. At that time I also discussed some future remodeling I would like to do. They advised me to hold off on some of the work I wanted done now as it would only be duplicated during any remodel. This saved me substantial cost. They returned on 4/6/15 and completed the current work needed. They arrived on time with all of the ordered pieces. They worked non-stop and completed the job timely. I had a lot of questions about the future remodel project. They thoroughly explained what would need to be done and offered options I could go with. There was never any high pressure sales pitch. I highly recommend Bears Plumbing as they work with integrity and pride and the pricing was very reasonable and fair.

We have been undergoing an unexpected home remodel due to a broken toilet tank since May 2014. We have finally gotten to the point of having the new toilet installed after many other issues and what a relief to have an excellent plumber who was prompt and efficient with his work. It was quite obvious he knew his trade and the workmanship was precise down to the beautiful caulk lines around the fixtures. He even fixed a poorly set toilet which I had installed the day before (by another highly recommended Angie's List) plumber. He removed the extra shims that were not necessary to level the toilet and re caulked. He even removed the old grout that had left a footprint from our old toilet. All this and he didn't even charge me for that part which I fully expected to pay for. His appearance was clean and he was easy to communicate with. He came all the way to Manvel to complete our job. He even recommended a good plumbing company that was closer to us in case of an emergency. You definitely get what you pay for so it's better to pay for good work then deal with the aftermath of a plumbing problem. I would not hesitate to call Eric with Bears Plumbing in the future....it's worth the money and piece of mind.
