Response from Carnival Custom Painting
"This is very puzzling. For one this happened over a year ago. Secondly, it was never scheduled. I went to give a bid on a rent house this person owns in which we needed me to touch up and redo work a previous painter had done a terrible job on. I submitted the bid in which he accepted and then he expected me to start on it the very next day. I had a scheduled work load that was 2 weeks out at that time and could not accommodate his desired job start date."

My house was in pretty bad shape due to neglect of previous
owners not doing routine maintenance. Scope of work to be done was replace the
majority of the fascia, some soffit, caulk &repaint the entire house. I was
told that top of the line products would be used and while the bid was more
than I had planned on spending, I didn't feel like shopping around for other
bids and just wanted the job done so I could move on with the roof replacement.
The crew showed promptly and started to work and while the job took longer than
what I was told,  that part wasn't a problem. The problems was with the work
that was done. On their final day, the crew had finished and left before I got
a chance to look at the work. Boards were misaligned, trim was crooked and
calking had gaps in it or was missing all together. Brad did promptly return
with the crew leader and i pointed out the problems which were clearly visible
and a date and time was set up to come back out and finish, however due to rain
and weather, that was pushed back several times. By the time I had arrived home
the day that they did come back to finish, they had already left. I waited a
few days to see if they were coming back out or what and never heard anything. I
email Brad and asked if they were finished and had he done a walk around yet.
He replied "Everything is through only when you say it is. I have not made
a final walk around. I stopped by yesterday and you were not home, the gate was
closed. I will call you tomorrow and set a time this next week to come by and
walk around with you." And that was the last time I heard from him. Six
weeks later I emailed Brad a list of problems, the biggest being that when the
roofers were looking at the house, they noticed that the trim
that Carnival had to replace under the drip rail was not the same size as the
existing trim with the new trim being smaller, thus the new drip rail would not
set flush against the trim. I never heard back from Brad or anyone with
Carnival and could not delay the roof.  I knew that the warranty was in place I would just wait
until sprint.  As the year progressed, I noticed that the caulk that Carnival used was
cracking & pulling away from the siding, leaving substantial cracks with
the potential of water penetration. There was also some other trim that didn't
match & was smaller than the original trim so their solution was just to
fill in the gaps with caulking. Since the end of the year warranty was close, I
contacted Brad to come out & take a look. I was immediately told that the
cracks in the caulking were more or less normal & the only thing that could
be done was to get the top of the line caulk & redo the job but the problem
wasn't with the work or material used, it was due to the preexisting condition
of the siding when the job was done. I reminded Brad when he bid the job, he
said they would use the top of the line products, & we specifically talked
about the joints in the siding because they were all cracked when the job was
bid. I was then informed that no one in the world would be able to caulk the
siding and make it water proof, and if they did they were lying to me. I asked,
why wasn't that mentioned when he bid on the job? In showing Brad the
significant size difference in some of the trim replaced, he stated that they
had to make do, because apparently they didn't make the size trim that was used
on my house when it was built. Once again, I questioned why that wasn't
mentioned to me when the job was bid. All in all, I feel like I was just sold a
bill of goods and am faced with additional out of pocket expenses due to what I
feel is the incompetence on part of the person in charge. If Carnival didn't
bid top of the line products, then I should have been given the option of
'upgrading'. If the siding was in such bad shape that Carnival can't honor their
warranty, then why bid the job or give the warranty?

Response from Carnival Custom Painting
"This job was done a year ago, not the date he says. This entire is complaint is ridiculous and inaccurate at best. I came out to address these issues just the other day, a year after the job was done. The first thing [Removed member name] did was accuse us of not painting a soffit board and trim on the back side of the shed. It turns out the boards were replaced by the roofing company which they damaged after our paint job. He then points our caulk that was cracking in between the siding on his carport and shed. this is due to siding that should have been replaced and that I recommended by replaced in the beginning. It swelled due to all the rain and caulk is not designed to expand like that. He did not have the budget to do all that needed to be done so we replace just what was rotting. Our warranty does not cover pre-existing conditions. Mr. [Removed member name]does not understand this now he is bashing our business on Angie's List which is very damaging. SHAME ON YOU [Removed member name]!!!"

The estimation process was quick and professional.  Very detailed and the gentleman thought of some things to consider that weren't even on my radar but will help make sure things look good when we're done.
We've had problems in the past with painting, so we had them complete a portion of the quoted work to try them out - my son's room. Room needed doors, walls, woodwork painted, some patching - two colors on the walls. They were in and out quickly with no mess on the rugs, etc. Did multiple coats which is important. I didn't know to look for that and we had another company in earlier to do our family room - that company stained my carpet, scratched my fan and did only one coat - and it shows.
Carnival was tidy, quick and professional. The men who came were pleasant and did the job quickly. I will have them back to complete the rest of my first floor as soon as I can.

They did not do a great job. The quality of service was poor. The floor man who was supposed to be out did not show up at first and when he was out he was rude. The crew got paint on the carpet and fixtures. They did a sloppy job and they had issues with matching the paint. They even threw away a matching paint I had found. They were very hard to get in contact with and to schedule. They had to cancel a few times because crews kept quitting. They had poor communication and I contacted them a few times to confirm the job. They left my house a mess to where I could not get to my master bedroom and closet. It was very inconvenient and they did not show up when they said they would at the end of the job when they said they would come back to fix things. They took hour and a half lunches.

"This customer has gone through a number of painting companies in the last year. By her own confession she told me she was not happy with the ones hired previous to me and would not want them back in her house. She obviously does not understand the painting process. We actually went above and beyond for her doing things not included on the contract. I have not had crews quite on me and my crews do not take hour in a half lunches. There is no pleasing this customer. PAINTERS BEWARE"

Very responsive and quick. Provided a fair quote for the work and was completely on time. After work was completely, we found a few spots that had poor quality, but overall, the quality was fair and a good value for the price.

I am extremely pleased with the service I received from Carnival Custom Painting.  Brad came out and gave me a very detailed estimate of what it would cost and the time frame.  He also broke down each request by room so that we could figure out a priority of items to be completed (the entire interior and exterior needs to be repainted, but we want to do it in phases).  He was also able to fit me in the very next week due to an opening (lucky me!), even though our project took three complete days.  Victor and his crew showed up on the day of service, and each day thereafter, exactly when they promised.  They were very thorough, polite, and professional.  Victor was responsive to our requests, and performed multiple "walk-throughs" in each room to make sure we were completely satisfied.  They were easy to work with, and accommodated a few last minute changes with paint colors and service requests.  They cleaned up after themselves, and the only evidence that they were here is the new paint (which looks fantastic), and they did spill some paint in two places on our new carpet (they did their best to remove the paint, and you have to look really close to see where it is - given the large amount of rooms and space they had to paint, I'm impressed there were only two "oops" marks).  I recommend this company for painting services.

Brad was very prompt with the estimate, and when we decided to have them do the job, he scheduled us very soon afterward. The crew was thorough and detail oriented. They worked quickly and late when necessary. Even though most of the paint was sprayed, the crew was very careful. The house looks great! We would use them for other painting projects.  We would recommend them to anyone.

Brad and his crew were incredibly good.  They fixed up holes in the house, caulked all the seams and painted beautifully, then cleaned up completely.  Their attitudes are up-beat and professional.  Brad was the 1st to respond within a couple of hours of my request online and his service was just as fast and well done a week later.  Job was to take 2 days but they ended up staying late and making into one day!  I could not be happier with Carnival?s service and am having them back again for another job.  Great Job, Brad, Valentino & Crew !!

Bidding process was very fast and was done on the spot (they were the only painter who gave me a written quote on the spot)! Though they came in 30 mins late as scheduled, paint job was done beautifully.  They were fast, efficient and took the time to re-examine everything they painted. They had their boss come back in the afternoon to check their job and they did not leave until I was satisfied. Their price was great too in comparison to other painters and was able to accommodate me considering the tight deadline I had. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience! Brad Hale was a great overall manager who was very responsive to all of my communications and honest in his opinion on what works well for selling a home regarding wall treatments. He gave me an initial quote that included prime and paint for all the walls as well as patching and touch up of trim. It was a daunting task, in my opinion, since I had a very dark color on the walls and was selecting a very light, neutral color. However, the three man team that arrived were finished in a day and covered everything thoroughly so no dark color showed. They were very careful and neat and I did not find any paint spilled. When I realized that none of the trim had been patched, I spoke to Brad who had two guys out immediately the next day to finish.
The color was so perfect that my stager asked if I could get it painted in the connecting living room and to replace the wallpaper in the kitchen. I was a little concerned since there is no break in the wall between the living room and kitchen so the texture on the wall would need to be matched very well going into the kitchen. Brad was able to give me a quote and get me on the schedule within a week. The living room was completed in a day but the kitchen wall texture had to dry overnight so painting resumed for another hour in the morning. Brad came by for a final walk-through and inspection and verified that the trim had been patched and touched up.
I was very pleased with the quality and professionalism with everyone from Carnival!

Overall I am pleased.  The job was originally quoted as 2 days and took 4 which prevented us from taking the trip we had planned.  I was not prepared for the mess and confinement.  Jeff was very good about advising me on paint colors and great on responding to my many calls and questions. Although he was not on site he checked in everyday and Israel was great about supervising the crew.  The $300 Angie's List discount helped keep the price down.

We received a bid to paint the inside of the house. the bid was $5000 dollars. we told him we were smokers and wanted to make sure that the stains did not bleed thru. He stated that one coat would cover and not bleed thru. After the job was complete we noticed the stain and where the pictures were hung was beginning to bleed thru. We got him out and he did not agree but painted one wall with a second coat and we were happy with that wall. He stated that there was no bleed thru and we disagreed. He refused to paint the second coat without and extra 1400 dollars. If he had told us and bid it as one coat then maybe but he did not. I told him I would pay him if he came back and do the second coat. They came back, did the second coat and now the walls are great. I paid him and will not use him again.

Jeff showed up on time and was very professional. He did a great job selling his company and quoted me a good price. I think overall they did a good job, however I was a little disappointed in some of the quality of the work. The skylights that I had them cover with sheetrock, the sheetrock patch was not installed flush with the ceiling and you can still see where the skylights use to be. Also the ceiling in my livingroom has a wavy appearance to it. I was told that they could smooth the ceiling out, but it still looks the same. Other than these two issues I thought the job came out ok. If your looking for acceptable work, done fast, at a fair price, I would use this company.

The job went very well, the crew arrived on time and did a lot of prep work to ensure no paint on the brick and were very careful of all landscaping.  They did an excellent job replacing bad siding, caulking everything, patching some minor problems and painting.  They were done in less than 2 days and cleaned up very well.  The job cost exactly what we had discussed and the Angie's coupon was a nice bonus.  The house looks terrific.  We are very pleased and plan to use this company in the future.

The process started on a Monday, and we were able to return on Thursday morning (we did budget to kennel the dogs and stay in a hotel for 3 nights).  The team locked up each evening and I returned each morning to unlock.  They were always on time!  They requested my input on texture and ceiling color before proceeding with each.  It went quickly and the results are great. They thoroughly cleaned up their part, but there is no way around the light dust (from the taping/bedding) that is left behind.  One should plan on a cleaning service or spending a few days wiping down shelves, wood floors, table top items, etc.  I have recommended these folks to others, and would definitely use them again.

We are preparing our home for sale, so we did not want to go overboard on cost.  A previous company that we used on the exterior gave us a quote of over $18,000 to do the inside.  We got three other quotes and Carnival was the lowest at $11,500.  Their overall job was adequate, but what really bothered me was the sloppiness.  We had to call them back to touch-up poorly done areas four times.  They spilled paint on carpet and were not very careful overall.  We also cannot find all the smoke detectors they took down.  They simply took off all the doorknobs and switch plates and threw them in a 5 gallon bucket.  It turned out that I had to replace all the knobs and switchplates- it looks good, but was an extra expense and work.
Response from Carnival Custom Painting
"This project was completed the first week of June and the customer is just now posting a review? We only performed one touch up once the project was finished and completed everything the customer requested. We have never returned to any house four times. I dealt with Member and had little to no interaction with another person but he has written the review. The faceplates and door knobs were handled exactly as the customer requested. Both I and my crew chief walked this home twice with the owners and they approved and were very happy with all of the work. This house was completely cleaned to the customer's satisfaction and there was no paint on the carpet. After we completed painting his home another person was very happy and asked me to come by and give hime an estimate on painting his office. Why the delayed review after nearly four months?"

Carnival Custom Painting is a franchise around the Fort Worth/Dallas area.  The franchise owner I dealt with  was Jeff Murrey.  Jeff runs two paint crews who have worked for him a number of years. The third paint crew has been with Jeff for eight months.  This is the four person paint crew that painted my home.  The supervisor is Valenti  and the assistant supervisor is Victor.  Both spoke perfect English.  We took four bids for the paint job; two from Angie's List and two from recommendations of friends.  The bids ranged from $1,900 to $4,500.  In the past we usually accepted the middle range bid.  Jeff was so professional, punctual, and knowledgable, he made us look closely at his bid.  We got 10 recent (two years or less) references from Jeff.  All sang his praises using words such as "does what he says he will do",  "excellent quality of work", "starts and completes on time", etc.  During the painting, our interior decorator wanted to do some changes to the original bid.  Jeff and Valinti were most accommodating.  We swapped one bid item for another item with no increase in price.  After the painting was completed, Valinti, my wife, and I did a close inspection walk through.  There were only three or four spots we asked to be checked.  Each time, Valint said "I will get it corrected" and he did.  Jeff Murrey and Valinti's crew were a  extremely professional class act throughout the process and my wife and I are extremely picky..
