We are a LANDSCAPE DESIGN COMPANY. I have been doing Landscape Designs and installations of my designs in San Antonio & Surrounding areas since 1984. Yeah, that's a long time. But, I love it and my foreman says I can't retire until 2030, when his last girl gets outta high school. :) So...get it right on paper BEFORE any digging begins! 210.488.5321. I will personally meet with you & spend as much time as necessary going over what you would like to do and what your options are. I have a massive portfolio of before & after pictures, on my laptop, that we can reference on our first visit to help you with ideas. We will then design your landscape either by hand, or by CAD. This is to make sure we like everything on paper "before" any digging begins. I'm amazed at how many landscapers skip, or pay little attention to this process. This is where we spend most of our time. This is also why I only do 1 appointment per day between 9am and 3pm. They can take some time. If this is done right, the actual installation is so much easier and smoother...and I have the best Landscaping Crew in San Antonio. Period. :) Folks, this is fun and I love doing this. Steve did $65,000 xeriscaping and retaining walls proect. Overall work was excellent. We did have an issue during the cleanup after the work was completed but Steve and his team worked diligently to resolve the issue. We only installed stones, pavers, mulch and retaining walls, no plants or trees.

"If you look at Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s pictures, you will see bobcat tire marks on the driveway, which is normal on a job like this. So, as we normally do, we spent a day power washing the driveway to get the tire marks off. Well, evidently, the concrete contractor had put a paper thin "skim coat" on top of the driveway. When we power washed the tire marks, that thin coat start coming off. We didn't notice when power washing because everything was wet. But, as it dried, it gave the driveway a splotchy look where the skim coat came off and you could see the darker color concrete underneath. I've been power washing driveways after we finish a job for 35 years and never have seen this before. The Driveway was several months old, so the concrete had already cured and hardened. I brought a Concrete contractor I've used in the past to figure out what was going on. Which is how I learned all about skim coats. He was not impressed with what they did, but I at least I now knew what had happened. After talking with my contractor and the customer, we decided to remove the rest of the skim coating so the driveway would be a more uniform color. It was a long arduous process as it is a very big driveway. I sent one of my guys out there with a power washer to remove that skim coat completely. It took us 8 days (longer than the actual job,) but we finally got it done and it looks much better now. I didn't charge the customer for this as it wasn't their fault. It really wasn't ours either, but I felt responsible. I've been doing this for a very long time, and have never come across something like this before. Maybe it's a newer technique for concrete, I don't know. Mr. & Mrs. [Member Name Removed] were great during all of this as we discussed various solutions. Steve said he was booked up and couldn't come out at the time I called, but he suggested when to call back (several weeks later) and when I did, he immediately agreed to an appointment time at my convenience. He spent over 2 hours walking around my yard, asking me what I wanted and offering suggestions while sketching everything out on paper. I was pleased that he and I shared a preference for native and low-water-maintenance plants, and he offered some suggestions for a couple of drainage issues. He gave me an estimate for the entire project, and said it could be broken into two parts, and he gave two prices: one for which he and his crew would do all the prep work and provide the plants, and one for which they just did the prep work. I have not decided when to proceed, but will probably have SAL&D just do the prep part since I do gardening as a hobby.

This work was done very smoothly. The owner came out a couple times before and drew out his plan and placement. He also let us approve placement of the items before actually planting. He and is staff are professional, efficient, hard-working and on time! The work was done in a timely manner (they had a lot to do)! Several neighbors called or stopped by to say it looks beautiful and to get his contact info!

Steve came up with a landscape design that greatly reduced the damage done to our yard by our dogs. He even built a sand pit for us that the dogs love. Plants are all xeriscape and easy to care for. Such an improvement over the mud pit our yard gad become. Steve left great instructions for for short and long term care of the grass and plants. He also let us know we only have to email him with any questions we may have later. All in all a great experience. I would definitely recommend this company.

We were very pleased and excited about the design and plants he proposed. We proceeded to set a time for him to do the work for us. He told us it would probably be a 2-3 day job, and he set aside 3 days on his calendar to complete the work. He and his crew arrived promptly on the date and time we agreed upon. He gave his crew instructions each morning, and they set to work immediately. His crew worked hard and were both professional and polite. The job was done in 2 ½ days. We were and are very happy with the completed job. We have had many neighbors and friends tell us how beautiful it looks and many have asked for Steve’s number to have work done for them. We highly recommend Steve and his company to do any landscaping needs you may have.

At first I was happy with the project. 2 years later it is a disaster. Only about 4 of many plants survived. But the worst part is the soil they brought in was apparently filled with Nutsedge. I’d never had it before and now it has taken over the bed. I’ve fought it for 2 years with no hope of getting rid of it. My side bed was filled with Bottlebrush and rock. Looked really nice. Problem with that is it’s never once bloomed since the first summer. To replace them means having to remove all the rock which is too big a job for us. I was told it would bloom for years. Didn’t happen. They look awful. I’m very disappointed in the long term result if all the money I spent.

"I wish ya'll had contacted me. I know it's been a long time, but I could have helped you with pretty much everything. Landscaping is like a garden, it must be tended to from time to time. After such a long time, I don't know what is going on. Are you watering enough or too much? Are you using fertilizer when none is required? Are there insect or animal issues? I remember you wanted the bottlebrush, even though I recommended Knock Out roses instead. Bottle brush is fine if we do not get too many freezes. But we've had killing freezes the last 2 years, so I'm thinking that is why you lost them. I would have replaced them with Knock Out roses. A very similar look, but the knock outs are much hardier. Nutsedge is an issue in San Antonio and sometimes when we turn soil, it brings it to the surface. I've had it in my own yard when I tilled a garden. We use a product called "Sedge Hammer" to deal with it. It is designed to deal specifically with nutsedge and it works. You can even get it on Amazon. Please, if you have an issue, contact me. Just spent some time in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and it looks more and more that is the way we are headed also. Not necessarily a bad thing tho. Xeriscaping can be beautiful and we've done quite a few I'm proud of. Albuquerque was great for ideas. They've been doing it out there a long time and they really know what they're doing. It was clear pretty quickly that Steve (super nice guy) was not qualified to actually design anything from scratch. If you already know what you want and need someone to sketch it, help you calculate materials and place plants, this is your guy. If you want someone to help you with ideas from scratch, he'll tell you to hire a landscape architect. In my mind, this deal description needs to be tweaked to ensure customers understand what it does NOT offer. Steve recommended I request a refund from Angie's List since he couldn't provide actual design but since it was more than 30 days since I purchased the deal, Angie's List won't refund my money. This will be the last deal I buy from Angie's List...you're better off with Groupon as they actually stand behind their vendors.

"Not my week for reviews. Ok, this is partly true. I wish I could have given her what she wanted, but it wasn't really landscaping. There were no actual plants, beds, patios, etc. involved. Everything she showed me she liked was architectural. Unique poured concrete driveways, concrete sculptures, etc. It was very nice, but this is really a job for an architect or building re-modeler. I'm the guy that, after you've done all the big stuff, I then come in and make everything look pretty. I'm usually the last guy in the chain. I suggested she call an architect, but they are quite a bit more than $69 and I understand she really didn't want to pay that much. And I do design landscapes. Have been for over 30 years. You don't need to have a plan in your head, I can help you with all of it... and I do. You can read over 100 of my reviews of people I have helped and done designs for. But, this was not landscaping. There are things I can't do and I will let you know if I can't do it. I don't do kitchens, I don't do remodeling, I don't do driveways (well, I have done decomposed granite or gravel drives) I don't do concrete sculptures, etc. I will give you advice on the areas I can't help you with. I know many architects and have given seminars to them on plants and soil in South Texas, because many come from other areas and don't know our soil/plants that well. So I know what they can and cannot do. I suggest people go to my website and look at our before and after pictures before having me come out if it is a concern. That will help give you an idea of what we do so you can get a feel for our work and see if it matches what you are wanting. You can call me as well and ask questions. People do it all the time. My number is 210.488.5321. Many send me pictures so I have a feel of what is going on. You can too. I give a lot of advice over the phone... free of charge. I like talking about this stuff :) Also, she didn't get a refund I'm guessing because she waited so long. She cancelled our appointments 4 times, so it was month after she purchased the deal that we were finally able to meet. I'm thinking that's why Angie's wouldn't refund the money. Angie's has since changed the way they do things and you don't purchase through them anymore, you buy directly from me or your vendor. And I can refund it, or not charge you in the first place if I can't help you. - Steve"

We could not be more pleased with how this project turned out. We stumbled into this after receiving an Angie's List email offering $69 landscape plans. Knowing that we needed to one day get rid of our excessive lawn that was using up too much of our shared well water, we knew we couldn't go wrong to just sign up for a plan. We were a little concerned that whomever came out was going to hard-sell their service. This was far from what happened. Steve came out, spoke with us about what we were looking for, hand-sketched a plan while he was here, reviewed it with us and gave us his opinion on how we could reduce the cost. There was absolutely no hard-sell. We could keep the plan and do nothing. We chose to have him price it out and he had it back to us the next day, along with suggestions (again) on how to keep the cost of our job down. We liked the plan as drawn and scheduled to have the work done. Steve and his team at San Antonio Landscaping provided the kind of service that we all hope every contractor would provide. He knows what he is doing (knows plants/landscape design), he communicated with us every step of the way, he was on the job when he said he'd be, and he has followed up with us after the job. A+ work. We couldn't be happier.

Design included our suggested plants where feasible. Suitable suggestions were made as substitutions. Have placed a hold on doing actual work until spring time.

It went very well. Stove was knowledgeable about plants and integrated everything we discussed in to his plan. One of the nice things was that when my wife and I were did not have an idea of how we wanted the plan, Steve was quick to offer several options of how he would do things. Very refreshing to work with someone that isn't afraid to offer up their opinion. Also, no pressure to buy anything beyond what we paid for!
