Water or Storm Damage Restoration, Fire or Smoke Damage Restoration + 2 more
I contacted ServiceMaster about 10 in the morning (it was Sunday and it took a while to get in touch with my insurance) They arrived about 2 in the afternoon and immediately went to work vacuuming up the water. I had moved all the furniture in the room except a the TV stand which is large and heavy. I had removed everything from the stand. About 4 pm they set up multiple fans and dehumidifiers and said they would be back to check the progress each day in the coming week. In addition they took a wet area rug and a hall runner to dry and clean. On Monday they came to check the house, I had my adult son meet them as my wife and I were both working. He called and said they had removed all the fans and the dehumidifier as all was dry.
WHen I got home I walked across the carpeted area and my socks got soaking wet. I was meeting the adjuster on tuesday so I waited to ask him for advice. By the time Tuesday rolled along the house had started to stink (like a wet dog the adjuster thought) and we were getting upset.
The following week a ServiceMaster manager came to the house and I complained about the smell. He tested the carpet and the walls and they still showed some dampness. We rolled back the carpet to find the beginning of mildew on the back. He assured me this would come clean with a good carpet extraction. We were done working with ServiceMaster even though there was work left on the claim. Today a month later we are finally getting our area rugs back, and the adjuster has requested that the carpet be replaced.
