Overall it was nothing but a great experience. We purchased a semi- transparent stain, and John was the only one who could guarantee a great application of this type of stain. They sprayed it on and then brushed it into the grain (as it should be done, he later explained). Over the 3 day time period, 10-12 total hours, John was nothing but pleasant, helpful and informative. Also, he was willing to do this job very last minute, which was greatly appreciated. Can't beat the pricing either. We had about 400-450 linear feet of fencing to stain and was charged around $850, which is right around $2/ linear foot. Would definitely, and have, recommend for staining jobs.

Provider was enthusiastic and excited for the job. After the first day of work, things started to go south. After first day, which was supposed to be finished in two days, provider asked if he could come back day after the next. I agreed. When provider didn't show up as he promised, it was due to transportation problems. I told him I understood. He came back the next day, later than promised. He and his crew worked three to four hours. I wasn't completely satisfied with the work. We let him know what problems were of concern to us and promised to complete them. Several days passed, again transportation problems were the excuse for delays. Provider completed work after several days. Provider wants some money up front, even after u buy the stain, then balance of payment upon completion. I recommend providing full payment upon completion, not part up front after first day of work. I expected full coverage of deck upon our agreement. While 80% of the job was performed as expected, part of the deck doesn't have full coverage of stain. I asked for him to complete the staining on the parts that needed it the most. It was several days before I could completely inspect the job because of my illness and disability, but was un happy with the coverage of stain on the back of deck. This is my fault, I paid him the balance due for a completed job without inspecting it first. I have sent unanswered messages to him but have received no response at all.

"Wow! What a shame, this review, as I was open n honest every step of the way. Transportation issues? My transmission went out on me (almost $4,000) the end of December, n I was without transportation for most of the month. Want to see pictures of towed auto or invoices??? Staining-- I went way above, applying 2 n 3 coats of stain to main flooring areas, plus stained a large bench n cabinet, n sink area, @ no extra cost. The project came out very well. Oh well,..., can not please everybody. PS-- Proud of the work, n professionalism displayed by my company!!!"

He made all the arrangements over the phone, working around my schedule, and performed the work exactly as promised and as I requested. The price was a little high, but the work was also excellent.

They were very professional and aimed to please.  They had to work around the weather and did well.  They did well with the staining as well as with the clean-up.  They did a great job.

John is a man of integrity. He takes pride in his work and is passionate about providing the best service at the convenience of the customer. He stained our deck and rails in two days and the transformation was incredible! We had a coupon for $299 but since the size of our deck exceeded the size for the coupon, we paid more for the additional square feet. It was well worth the cost! He took his time making sure it was done right using quality products. After completing the deck he left the remainder of the stain for touch ups. What a great experience!

John did a great job staining the screened-in porch. He was more than willing to take on a small job. He was terrific keeping the stain out of the screen. With rain in the forecast, he made sure the outside of the porch was stained twice before he worked on the interior.  The screen room looks great, love the color of the stain and it was done very quickly.

John was at our home bright and early and after clarifying the details of the job, got right to work.  With one helper, they were able to complete the job before the end of the day.  He also stained our rails on the patio for an additional charge which he completed the same day.  Very professional, positive, helpful and provided information about the staining and had samples for us to choose the color of the stain.  The stain looks so good and adds value to the property.  So glad we had it done.  Looking into getting the patio cement floor stained with the same company.

There was a discount ($299) being offered and based on company ratings, I went with it.  It ended up being more than $299 because he said that we had more square footage than the coupon covered, which was understandable.  It took about 2 weeks for him to come out which was okay, but we made sure to tell him ahead of time that we had family coming for Thanksgiving and that we would love to have it completed before they arrived; he confirmed that it would be.  Unlike many of you, he only sanded a small portion of my deck (maybe 10-12 sq ft) and left the rest.  Once he completed the job, he said it would take 2-3 days to dry.  It took almost 2 weeks to dry and we didn't get to enjoy the space for the holidays (things happen, I understand).  After the porch completely dried, the color where he had sanded was completely different than the area that he had not sanded.  In addition, the spaces in between the boards were not stained (again, I understand it is hard to get between 1/2" spacing between the boards), and the baluster wood around the deck was very spotty.  Several of the boards were not stained at all.  My husband called the owner to let him know that we were not happy with the deck and that it did not look good.  We are an extremely laid back couple and really were just expecting a basic job for the price, nothing over the top.  The owners said he would come back out and fix it but we should be happy with it because he did a good job, unfortunately, this was not the case.  I believe he was overbooked, and let his quality slip.  He said that he would come out again, didn't know how I could possibly be upset about the work, and "expected" a great review on Angie's List (EXTREMELY DEMANDING MAN).  After many calls, the owner did come back out and fix most of the issues we were having, but overall, it does not look like a professional did this job, in fact there were still baluster pieces that were never stained.  I've had to stain the exposed wood myself.  I pondered whether to post this or not because of the owners demand for a good review, but the fact of the matter is that the job was not good and people considering hiring this company should know.  I've seen quite a few "A" ratings, so maybe we're just the job he let slip??
Response from U Buy I Apply Staining
"This is very disappointing. This is classic "false expectations". Why did this review come almost a year later??? The deck was in very bad shape. Years of neglect, 2/3 large dogs, cigarette butts, grease from grill n wax on deck, etc. I even took pictures to protect myself, which I have since deleted, as I thought this was way past. I did the right thing by sanding the whole deck, n brushed on 2 coats of an OIL BASED Stain. The deck was in such poor condition, it NEEDED an oil based stain. I could have taken the easy way out, n stained a latex n been done with it. Heck, latex dries in 2-4 hours. Oil is 12-24 hours. I am getting chastised for "doing the right thing". It took two (2) weeks to dry??? Really? I do not think so. I even forewarned her n Toby there would be minor color variances? [Member name] keeps mentioning the owner. Funny, I am the owner, n I did the work. Again, disappointing. Maybe [Member name] is correct on one point,..., every now n then things do not turn out 110%. I do quality work (2 brushed on coats), and take pride in it. In fact, I could have charged more for the condition of the deck, which was clearly spelled out in the agreement, but I decided not to. Silly me. See what happens when you try to do the right thing. Best regards, John Winters, Jr. Owner U Buy I Apply Staining"

John arrived within one day of my call for a quote, assessed the condition of the deck and provided me with a very reasonable quote for the scope of work.  He started the work within four days and completed the staining quickly.  The sanding was more difficult than expected due to the type of stain that was applied two years ago, but he sanded it completely without complaint.  He stained the deck and railings completely, and the finished product looks amazing.  We are pleased with the outcome.

We have a 582 sq ft Western cedar deck, approximately nine years old.  Heavily shaded.  Four years after the initial application of stain, I prepped the deck with a deck stripper and brightener, using a pressure washer and deck brush, then used a hand pump sprayer to apply two coats of stain.  I had purchased a trade product, TWP semi-transparent oil-based cedar tone total wood preservative/stain/sealer.  The entire process took four days and 4 gallons of stain.  The appearance was satisfactory at the time, but I was not happy at the the amount of time and effort required to complete the job.
Five years later, the deck is now nine years old and badly in need of refinishing.  This time I consulted Angie's List and contacted John Winters at U Buy I Apply Staining.  He arrived at our home the same day to provide an estimate.  On the minute.  Upon examining the deck, he said the job would consist of hand sanding the deck with an electric palm sander, then application of the stain with a brush.  His plan of action was to sand the deck and apply one coat of stain, returning the following day to apply the second coat.
However, I had already purchased a new supply of the same product I had used five years earlier, and insisted on using it rather than a product from a paint store or home improvement store.  John was unfamiliar with this product, but agreed to use it.  A key difference in the TWP product is the requirement that it be applied "wet on wet", that is, do not allow the first coat to dry before applying the second coat.  He contacted the manufacturer directly and discussed the application with a TWP product specialist to confirm the wet on wet procedure.
I was skeptical at his contention that there was no need to prepare the deck beforehand, so the day before his appointment, I proceeded to pressure wash and scrub the deck in preparation for sanding.  After doing 1/2 the deck I recognized I was wasting my time and resolved to let John do it his way, and then comparing the finished product on the surface I had pressure washed vs the remainder.
On the appointed day, John was running late but kept me informed and ensured I was not being inconvenienced.  He finally arrived within five minutes of his latest estimated arrival time, 9:30am.  He had one assistant with him.  He immediately pronounced my effort at prepping the deck had been unnecessary, then proceeded to sand the deck.  When the entire deck had been sanded, I could see he was correct.   The entire deck presented a like-new surface, ready to accept the stain.  The stain application was uneventful other than the fact that the wood was clearly thirsty, rapidly absorbing the stain within minutes.  Employing the wet on wet procedure, John and his assistant actually completed the entire deck the same day, sanding, then applying both coats of stain and then cleaning up, all done by 8pm. Using the brushes, they ensured full, penetrating coverage, no pools of stain, and they used less than 3 gallons of the five gallon can of stain.
The following day, and the day after that, have revealed a deck surface that looks and feels better than when the deck was brand new.  A third finishing coat (my option) will be applied following renovation of the swimming pool later this summer.
I am completely satisfied with the job done by John Winters and his assistant, Armando.  They were clean, friendly and courteous.  They were professional.  It's evident that he enjoys this work and takes pride in the results.  I recommend him without reservation and look forward to his visit to apply the third coat.

We contracted with Mr. Winters to re-stain the cedar board-on-board fencing around our property and I can only say we are extremely pleased. His work is superb! He was very easy to work with; was receptive to our concerns and requirements and was timely throughout the project.

"GM. This is disappointing. I ran a Big Deal promotion in November, and had 8-10 jobs. I was dealing with juggling numerous projects, and poor weather. Yes, shame on me for going to Boston for the holiday season. I stayed in contact with Mr. [member name removed] the whole time. Bottom line, I did a great job on his project, and he purchased it @ a great price. So be it."

I have a large cedar deck that encompasses more than 1,500 square feet, not including the railing and support slats.  I had several companies come out to review my deck and bid on the job.  Of the 4 bids I received, they ranged from $3,700 to $5,500 (please note these were from several very large companies around town that all receive "A" or "B" reviews from Angie's List and market extensively in the area).  I was also informed that I would need the job redone after another 12-18 months.
It was at this point that I decided to take a chance and call John at "U Buy, I Apply Staining."  I was a touch reluctant at first since I wasn't sure if he was going to be able to take on a project this large.  I called him and he was able to stop by that very day to thoroughly review the scope of work and offer his suggestions on an approach.  We ultimately agreed on a price of $1,500 for the entire deck and playground set.  He also allowed us to utilize his discount at HD so we could purchase all of the stain for the job, which he picked up the next morning before coming over.  This discount alone saved us nearly $60 on materials.  All-in, materials for this job added another $250 to my cost, which still put it nearly $2K less than the nearest other bid I received.
It took John nearly 6 days of 10-12 hour days to complete this job.  He could have done it quicker but he insisted on hand-brushing every part of it; ensuring maximum absorption and quality.  You can really tell that he cares deeply about the job that he's doing and is passionate about ensuring the customer is completely satisfied with his work.  The deck looks awesome!  I can't imagine it looking any better had I chosen one of the larger companies in the area.  In fact, I'm sure it would have come out looking inferior to the work he did, no doubt I would have had a crew of disenfranchised teenagers out there with some of the other firms.
I highly recommend calling John out to get a quote from him before committing to one of the larger, more-established companies out there.  He's incredibly honest and genuine and will do his best to ensure you are satisfied.  Communication with him is seamless and his work ethic is to be admired.  He truly enjoys what he does and it shows through his work.
Thanks John!

FULLY SATISIFIED.  I HAVE A 600 SQ FEET DECK THAT INCLUDED A BUILT IN POOL AND WALKWAYS WITH STAIRS.   JOHN PROVIDED PROFESSIONAL ADVICE THAT PREVENTED A POTENTIAL MISTAKE.   I ALLOWED  JOHN TO WORK AT HIS OWN SCHEDULE AND THIS WORKED FOR BOTH OF US.  WE HAD TO WORK AROUND THE WEATHER CONDITIONS.  I WAS ESPECIALLY  IMPRESSED THAT JOHN HAND SANDED THE DECK , IN  AREAS DOWN TO BARE WOOD TO ENSURE A GOOD BOND.
