We contacted Jesse from a flyer that we received. We were looking for someone to perform some extensive landscaping on our property and were looking for a professional. Jesse showed up and we described what we were looking for. He came back a few days later and presented his ideas on his suggested landscape design. We made a few changes to his suggestion and he came back a few days later with a estimate. The work was done as described, but we did start running into some problems.
The first was that he had not checked with the city to discover what easements were in effect for the property. This caused him to have to move some boulders that were placed too close to the road at the front of the property. The same was true about bushes that were placed too close to the property line on the side of the property located under power/telephone lines. My expectation would have been that he would have made the necessary inquiries to discover any easements.
Another example of his work was that we contracted for the company to pave us an area that could be used for BBQs and we agreed to natural stone pavestones with crushed granite stone filling the spaces between the stones. We let him know that the area selected was an area where runoff flowed during rain. He agreed to grade the area to correct the problem. The area looked great until we went through some rainy days a few months later. At this point we discovered that the rain was running under the new area and was retaining some water which made the whole pad like walking on wet sand. The pavestones would move when you stepped on them for weeks after any rain and the wheels on the bbq pit sank into the crushed granite. We contacted Jesse and asked him to come out to evaluate for a repair of the area since we were still well within the one year warranty that he had given. He came out to inspect the area and then came back with a $1200 estimate to repair the pad. When I asked about the warranty, he stated that it was only for the labor, but I would still need to pay for the material. I turned down the estimate. Within an additional year, the pavestones also began breaking down to where the stones are coming apart where each stone is now like a stack of thin stones.
We have used Jesse twice for stone work. The first time was described above for the BBQ pad at which time his company also made a mailbox for us. The mailbox before and after is shown on his company's website pictures. The second time, he extended our front porch and created a small feature attached to our house which is also shown on his company website pictures. Each time he has used different teams to perform the work. I think that my issue with his company is that he will not stand behind the work done by his masons. I would also suggest that EVERYTHING be spelled out in your agreement including what will be covered by the warranty and who will be responsible for the costs involved with warranty work. I think that his company does pretty good work at a decent price. It is just the "warranty" part of the work that I take issue with.
