Nick shows up at our house the same day I called for a quote which was great. Very nice, professional sales guy which also happens to be the owner. We got right outside and came up with an idea of what we wanted. Slab and patio cover. Nick proceeded to explain his product, which he rated basically top of the line. We were quoted for the cement slab, patio cover in sandstone color, 2 fan beams and "wiring" for the fans. He mentioned having this big roof and fancy posts in the warehouse that someone backed out of getting from him, that he wanted to sell quick since they had been sitting in the warehouse for quite some time (which makes me wonder why now!) We were quoted $16,950. We went ahead and made a deal and shook hands. He went ahead and got all the paperwork ready. I handed him our lot information, and a SIGNED paper which my HOA provides, in where he can speak to my HOA if needed. He asked if HOA required the roof to be shingled. I told him I didn't know. He said "ok I will ask, I deal with them everyday". So it rained for almost 2 months by the time they were able to start. First the concrete guy couldn't start the one day because of one of his workers. That was finished fine, no issues. Then the patio guy calls, due to come out the next morning, but he backed out because he had to drive so far. Then he couldn't finish in 1 day because of one of his workers. I'm like really! Ridiculous. He installs a post which gets all scratched up. Nick takes care of it with no issue. Great service there. Everything is going well until we find out that this "wiring" we paid for only meant they would leave wires hanging and not even connected to electricity! Are you kidding!? He stated we would just buy the fans and put them up ourselves! Well, how can we do that with no electricity!? The patio guy also happens to be an electrician and mentioned it would cost him $500 for a permit. I call City of Converse and guess what. It costs $35. So we let that one go, but then it just got worse. Our patio cover was not going to be shingled, unless we paid extra. WHAT!? Never did he mention there would be a price difference! Not like $200 extra, but $950 (supposedly cheap) Now let me say that UNFORTUNATELY it doesn't state that in our contract and yes that is partly OUR FAULT. This contract is not very specific anyways; again, our fault. I call him up and he's just rude, telling me we just want something for FREE. I explained the conversation we had and that we were under the impression that it was included either way with or without the shingles. Why not quote me that price before you leave, just in case we needed it? Since you still had to ask the HOA!? He's full of it. Nothing but cocky! Telling me we got a great deal. Yelled at me saying I'm playing victim and if I want to live my life that way ect. Really!? Really professional. We are having friends come over soon for summer BBQ's and they will NOT get his recommendation. That is not how we handle business. No apology for the MISUNDERSTANING. NONE. The fact that he mentioned being so successful already, again COCKY. Why not take a $950 loss if you're sooooo successful already. Even Mcdonald's does that everyday. Customer is always right. But then again, not in the contract. Lesson learned; but definitely will be passing this word around!. If I could take this d*** thing apart and shove it in his face I would!

"Some of the new HOA's require matching shingles on a patio cover and some do not. We submit the project to them and they let us know when they respond back. They always respond to the homeowner. Never the contractor. That's just the way they do business. So I explained this to these homeowners and told them we could shingle the roof to match the house if the HOA requires it. Of course we don't charge for that up front because it may be unnecessary! They understood this. When the HOA responded with approval, they DID NOT tell me the roof needed shingling. They waited until 2 days after the project was completed to mention it. In fact, I called the Mrs. the day we finished to check on their satisfaction and she replied that they loved it and everything was great. Once she called about the shingles I offered to shingle it for her at a reduced price juust to cover my expenses. She couldn't believe I wouldn't just throw in a nearly thousand dollar upgrade for no charge. I explained she hadn't been charged for this work and that it was a new development I would give her a reduced price to do the extra work. She wanted it for nothing. I explained politely I could not afford to do work for free and asked her why she would expect that of anyone? She became livid. Made it very personal. Calling me cocky and a liar. Told me she had been "taken". Well once she insulted me and made it very personal calling me a liar and a thief I must admit I had minimal patience left for her. I told her she was not a victim and to stop acting like one. I suggested that if she wanted additional work done she should pay for it like everyone else has to and that I could not afford to do it for free. As far as the electrical goes, we told this customer just like every customer that the patio cover comes pre -wired with an internal fan beam. We run the wire but do not make the final connection or install the fan unless the customer opts for that service which requires an electrician. We make this an option and it does cost extra as electrician's are not free either. This customer chose to not have us bring in an electrician at the point of sale and all of that is reflected in the contract. In summary, this homeowner is angry because we would not provide her a roof and electrician for free. She knows she didn't pay for it and she acknowledged that to me. It's all laid out clear as day in the contract what we are specifically doing for the exact price. That's why we have contracts and read them over together so there are no misunderstandings. She wants substantial additional work performed for no charge. I can't do that. I am not McDonalds. We are a small family owned business. And I might add I don't get things for free when I hire people to do work for me and I certainly wouldn't expect a small business owner to "give" me something for free. I know they can't possibly do that. I am sorry that this customer is so vindictive that she is now trying to hurt our reputation. She got a beautiful foundation and insulated patio cover with a lifetime warranty at a great price. I hope she and her husband enjoy the patio."

I am the director of South Texas Persian Rescue, a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue organization. I have an older house and have struggled for years to stay cool during the hot months of summer. As persian cats are very susceptible to heat related ailments, I wanted to do everything possible to ensure that this summer the house was comfortable for all of the residence - people and animals!! Nick Anderson, the owner of Tip Top Construction, came to my house to present what radiant barrier is and why it is so necessary here in south Texas. His information was eye opening and very educational. Nick was very patient and understanding with all of my questions - and he is a big supporter of animal welfare (which is a huge plus in my book!). The radient barrier was installed that same week; the installers were courteous and efficient - they were able to finish the installation in one day. About a week after the radiant barrier was installed, our air conditioner stopped working; we ended up having to replace the entire HVAC system. There was approximately a week that we were without any air conditioning. The only reason the house stayed a comfortable temperature, I believe, was because of the radiant barrier!! Now that daily temperatures are 100+ degrees, my house stays cooler then it ever has!! Thank you so much Tip Top Construction - and Nick!!

Contractor measured area, designed layout, conferred with homeowner and ordered all materials from TEMO. Materials came in and contractor installed promptly. Workers were knowledgeable and professional. One minor adjustment was requested by homeowner (me) and was accomplished immediately. Quality of work and materials is first rate and would recommend Tip Top to anyone requiring this type of service.

It went okay. It did go very well. The guys completed the job but it took them a long time. I will tell other members that they should probably look for somebody else.
Response from TIP TOP CONSTRUCTION INC
""It went ok. It did go very well". Members own comments. We don't understand a "C" rating from this customer considering they loved the work and told us they were extremely satisfied. The work was completed on time as promised with the exception of one upgraded door which was backordered. The homeowner had the standard door installed while awaiting the upgraded door. As for a "D" rating for price, we are again surprised by this as we discounted the job price on this order. $5000 to enclose a patio is a bargain when quality materials are used. If they didn't like the price, why did they order the enclosure?"

The sign up was ok. I do not like it when the sales person pressures that the price is only good during their visit. The work, however, was started in a timely manner, was installed properly and quickly - 2 days. Staff was professional. My electric bills have been about $250 / month, but summer bills have not arrived yet. The installation price seemed a little pricey, but consider it good work. Our house is 2900 sq ft..

My husband and I were pleased with the quality of the work done by the workers. The workers were very professional in performing their work. They worked timely and were punctual in arriving to the job. The workers cleaned up and hauled away the trash/debris. However, sometimes we had problems in contacting the owner of the company if we had questions relating to the project.

We contracted with Nick to put in a patio enclosure. We felt the materials he uses, Temo, were much superior to the other brands on the market. We were to have the installation shortly after the first of the year, however, there was a two week delay due to the horrible weather in the midwest in the first part of January. Once the materials were received in San Antonio, John came out and did the installation. John is a delight, great personality and knows what he is doing. It went in so quickly and people have commented over and over how beautiful the room is. To add $36,000 worth of value to your house for $22,000 is a pretty good return on investment!!!!!!
And I cannot say enough how much we appreciated Nick on the sales end and John on the construction. Should you buy, try to get John for the construction, he's a great guy and works really hard to get it done quickly, yet properly done.

Recently purchased an older home and wanted to make it more energy efficient. Researched and found radiant barrier to be one of the best ways to do this. Met with Nick/owner of Tip Top Construction who gave an impressive presentation of not only the radiant barrier but also gave an overview of the industry and detailed explanation of the types of energy that are more efficient. Having this type of information was instrumental in making my decision to use radiant barrier in conjunction with the ridge vent. Phil and associate were professional and did the installation in a timely manner. They made me aware of a couple of issues in the attic and on the roof which I would not have known about otherwise for which I am very grateful. Nick made a follow up visit to make sure I was satisfied with the results and answer any questions. I have and will continue to recommend Tip Top Construction.

Mike our carpenter and install was a consummate professional with great attention to detail. There were some some small issues with some subcontractors (concrete and stair railing) but the owner of the company, Nick took care of any problems that came up. We love the sun room and are very happy with it. It is a very good product.

They do great work! They finished the job in half a day. Don, one of the managers, helped us with problems related to HOA. He was good working through those issues. I felt they gave me a good deal on the work as well.

During the summer of 2011, the thermostat was set at 78 degrees, but the air conditioner worked all day long and could not cool the house below 82 degrees through the hottest hours of the afternoon (2-6pm). We had been investigating various strategies for insulating the attic and saw an advertisement at Sam's Club for radiant barrier insulation installed by Tip Top Construction, a San Antonio company owned by Nick Anderson. We took the product literature home and invited a sales representative from Tip Top out to the house. He enthusiastically described all the wonderful benefits of radiant barrier insulation, explained the rebate offered by CPS Energy, included a ridge vent with the installation, and offered a discounted service contract if we "acted today." We agreed to the contract and scheduled the installation for June 2012.
The two installers were very courteous and seemed to work efficiently, in spite of the miserable attic conditions. They arrived before 8am and quit shortly after noon each day before working conditions became dangerously hot. They finished the installation in about 4 days and cleaned up after each shift. They left no debris or stray staples laying around. The quality of the installation was acceptable. The insulation extends to within a foot of the eaves. Over the past year, I have had to tack up some of the staples that have pulled loose, but it seems to be holding up well.
The salesman had promised a CPS Energy rebate, so we located the instructions on the CPS website and downloaded the appropriate claim forms. The claim form required detailed information about the insulation from the contractor, including the contractor's signature. It took 30 days and several phone calls to the salesman, his supervisor, and the owner, Mr. Anderson, to finally receive the completed application before the CPS deadline. Once we submitted the completed application, CPS credited our account promptly.
To test whether the efficiency was as good as the Tip Top salesman claimed and establish a baseline for attic temperatures, we mounted an electronic weather station in the attic to record the hourly temperature changes while we waited for the radiant barrier installers. Peak temperatures in the attic averaged 134F the week before installation. Peak outdoor temperatures ranged from 89F to 95F. We had little cloud cover and no rain. After installation of the radiant barrier, the air conditioner was able to cool the house to 78F. Peak temperature in the attic after installation was 122F, about 12 degrees lower.
We continued to track our monthly energy bills over the next 12 months to see if the product lived up to the "25% Energy Savings Guarantee or $500 refund" promised by Tip Top. We did not change the settings on the programmable thermostat to make sure the comparison was valid. One year later (June 2013), our electric and gas bills show that we saved only 8% on air conditioning, and heating costs increased 6%. I followed the instructions on the warranty certificate and included a summary of monthly CPS bills showing kWH and CCF usage to apply for a partial refund. Mr. Anderson eventually phoned me to discuss possible reasons why the radiant barrier did not generate the energy savings other customers routinely see. It is possible that the attic configuration, air circulation, or other factors reduce the effectiveness of the barrier. Nevertheless, the air conditioner is able to keep up with the thermostat during the summer months and the attic temperature is measurably cooler with the barrier. Tip Top followed through with their product guarantee by sending a refund.
