Tim was very knowledgeable and honest regarding the issue we were experiencing regarding the power suddenly going out. We had received an estimate from another electrician who quoted work that was not necessary. Tim was very responsive and came out and performed the work the same day we called.

Tim showed up to start work on Nov.9th as scheduled. Actually, I called to verify that he was going to show the day before and he showed as agreed at about 1pm. This was the last time that he showed up on time. He and quot;fixedand quot; some things that showed up on inspection on our new home. I am worried though that he actually completed the work as these fixes are in the attic and under the house and it is difficult to inspect them. He then continued to show maybe once a week and only for a couple of hours. We had contracted him to move some switches and install some tract lights. There is still much unfinished work. I have called him to come back and finish and he claims that he is and quot;waiting for a partand quot;. He has cut some holes in my garage ceiling and just left wires laying exposed. The problems are too many to list here. When I paid him for work done he told me I could hold back 10% so that I was sure that he would come back. The only reason I used him in the first place was because he came recommended to me by a friend who builds homes and has not given me a bad reference in the past. It is also why I have been hesitant to give this poor review. It seems that Tim does not really care much about the work that he does. It is sad that I have to write this. The 10% that I held back is never going to cover me having to pay another electrician to come and fix and finish the job. I feel taken and lied to. I am not sure I want him to come and finish the job. I am just going to have to take the loss here. 1. Paid him to move switch for pool light...was working before he touched it...not working. 2. Put up track lights...track lights are up but not hooked up. 3. switch for flood light at garage..not working 4. holes in garage with exposed wire 5. he never cleaned up after himself, there is still trash that I am picking up from him.

I had a number of minor electrical stuff that needed to be dealt with and I had a whole list. He walked in and methodically went through the list and did what I needed. He was really good. I had some lights under the cubbard in my kitchen that needed to be replaced and he bought the replacement parts and did that. The fan in my sun room was wobbly and one of the screws was stripped. He fixed that so the screw was fitting in firmly and held the lamp kit on. The light switch in my family room was not turning off and on and he fixed the light switch. There was one on each side of the room and both of them needed to be repaired. He was very punctual and brought all of the tools and parts needed to get the job done. He was very polite but business-like and he did what he needed to do. He was very very efficient.

The new oven's power connection was about two feet shorter than the original which it replaced, and the electrical socket had to be relocated in order to connect and to use the oven. The installation crew (sent by the retailer from whom we bought the oven) was not licensed for electrical work, so we had to hire an electrician to complete the job. I had not used Tim before, but was aware of him and had read several excellent reports about him here on Angie's List. I called him about noon on Fri., Dec. 23, 2011, realizing that the clock was ticking on the start of the Christmas holiday weekend, but he told me he thought he could come by around 4:00 that same afternoon. However, I did not hear from him later in the day and, figuring we were just asking too much for someone to complete the job on such short notice, we sort of gave up the idea of being able to complete the work until the following week. We were greatly surprised when, on Saturday morning (Christmas Eve), Tim called, reporting that the job he had been on the previous day did not finish up until late in the evening, and he asked if he could come by and do the work that morning. He did, and the oven was working in time for Christmas baking to be done. Great job, Tim!

My overall experience with Tim Smoot Electric Inc. Company was excellent. They were very helpful in telling us what the problem was. They spotted a fuse that was giving us the problem and took care of it. They also gave us advice on how to maintain it better. They were knowledgeable and were able to explain the problem to us. I would use them again in the future.

Initial service call was very prompt (within two hours). The electrician did not have proper materials on truck to change service lead on the dryer and suggested he obtain that and return on Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) promising to call me with a schedule. He never called at all and I called the office on Monday. The electrician then called and arranged a time to finish the job. It is my belief that the office never knew about the promise to call me on Friday. I really believe that was a breakdown with the individual employee. It got fixed, the job got done timely and the price was right.
Description of Work: Corrected reverse polarity on wall plug; changed out electrical service lead on clothes dryer and installed GFI circuit on swimming pool light.

The work was done satisfactorily, but the issue was with the technician's consideration of client. The first day he did not show on time because he had the wrong cell number to call the home concerning his arrival. He did finally show up in the afternoon after I had called to see where he was. He had to return a second day to complete the ceiling fan installation because he needed a brace. He told me he would be here between 8 and 9 a.m. After no arrival by 12 noon, a call was made to the company. He finally showed up at 2:30. He had not come into work in the a.m. and did not call in this information. At the end of the job, it was made clear that the disregard for the client's time was not appreciated. There was a discount given on the parts on the final bill. I would use this company again, but I would be sure it is not this technician.

Scheduling was simple, helpful. Electrician arrived on time. Installation of first fan began at 8:30 and took about two hours because a switch had to be installed, requiring running a new line and doing work in the attic. Second ceiling fan installation took about 1 hour -- didn't even need to install a box upon which to hang the fan. He then looked at the feasibility of installing a third fan but we decided it was too complicated, this took about a half an hour. Then I asked him to look at the exterior tree lights in the back yard which had stopped working. He said a light sensor had burnt out. Rather than replace that I asked him to put in a switch. That began at 11 and continued until 2:30. He went out and got supplies in that time. Then he spent about 40 minutes writing up the ticket. I was watching the clock and swallowed hard when I realized it was almost $600. I also had to finish the fan installations (putting on blades, light fixtures, etc.) and then clean up the rooms because they were kind of a mess -- which I thought would keep the billable hours down. What really bothered me was that night when I turned on the tree lights they didn't work. I called to complain and the electrician said "well, all I checked was whether current was going up the tree, not whether the lights were working." They wanted to charge me an additional site visit to continue the work. I asked them to fix the light, not put in a switch, if that makes sense. And the overall pricetag was a lot for me to be told that in the end, it wasn't their problem. I called and complained and they did waive the fee and come back -- but they didn't have long enough ladders to fix the lights and at this point I was starting a new job and couldn't be home any more to wait for them to come. I just told them to forget about it.
Description of Work: Installed two ceiling fan motors (I finished installation of blades and other cosmetics), ran a switch for one ceiling fan, evaluated whether a third fan could be installed (which we didn't do.) installed a switch on exterior tree lights.

I cannot speak highly enough of their work. First one technician came and then they required another technician to climb into the attic to install the proper electrical box in the attic. They were very competent and did a great job. They even had to take an extension rod for the ceiling fan to their shop to cut it to the proper size. They then came back the next day to finish the job. The technicians were very courteous and hard working.

Shame on you, Tim Smoot! COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRELIABLE and RUDE!!! Electrician initially came by on a Friday, then promised to return following Monday to finish job; even writing this fact on the invoice. I asked if I needed to call to confirm/reschedule, "no", he said, he'd be back for sure. He then failed to show on Monday - a day I took off from work to get this done. Didn't call, either. My call to the office resulted in a VERY frustrating conversation with the incompetent secretary, who wanted to argue about EVERYTHING. She eventually called me back on Tuesday, confirming that electrician would be there on Saturday, my next available day. I spoke with electrician on Friday, who CONFIRMED. He failed to show on Saturday and didn't call. I called the office, but of course they were closed. I called the "emergency" technician, who said he knew nothing about it, couldn't get a hold of the electrician or his supervisor and was no help whatsoever.
Description of Work: 3 things needed to be fixed, a kitchen light (fixed), the doorbell (I ended up choosing to not fix this), and two exterior lights. (see tale of woe below)

We had 3 other estimates for the work we wanted done and Smoot was the cheapest and Scott the person who gave us the estimate came up with a solution for installing the ceiling fan. The ceiling we wanted the fan installed on is vaulted with abt a 30 degree slant. There is not attic space so he suggested going thru the outside wall and running the wiring between the trusses. They called the morning of the installation and arrived on time. There were 2 installers who were both professional and friendly. During the installation they noticed that the ceiling fan blades were not in the box. I had to return to the store were we bought the fan so we could get replacement blades. This delayed the installation but they didn't charge me for having to wait for me to return with the fan blades. Scott also came out and helped with the work that was being done so the work took about 5 hours. Once the work was completed they cleaned up the work areas. They did a good job and we will use them again.
