Southwest Custom Decks

Awesome, Mike exceeded my expectations. I had five bids for this project and hands down I made the right choice. One of the contractors decided not to show when he found out that Mike was part of the bid process, because of the quality and pricing of Southwest Custom Decks. This deck was not the easiest to build, but Mike made it look seamless. When you walk out our back porch the new deck drops down about 4' onto the main deck which stands 6'-7' off the ground. So a lot of post had to be set as well as anchors to the foundation for it to feel solid. He also skirted the entire lower portion with the same deck boards used up top. Most builders will use a lower grade wood or cedar picket for this to save on cost. When fence picket are used they often warp and start looking really rough with in a year or so. Again Southwest Custom Decks used the same material that was used on the main deck. Mike worked every day, from morning to night. He often worked so late that he used a head lamp when it got dark to clean up for the day. He swept the yard with a magnet each day to capture any dropped screws etc. This was really nice since we have two younger children and three dogs that still wanted to use the backyard. He was considerate of our neighbors as well, often staying in touch with them and asking about the noise level since one of our neighbors works from home. He made it a point to keep me up to date and let me know how the deck was progressing and get my feed back. The finished project is amazing, we not only have more living space, but a really nice storage unit as well to keep all of our lawn equipment in. I hope to have pictures up soon.

Provided a designed plan of the deck, detailed written outline of all expenses, material was on site and job started when scheduled. He did an excellent cleanup each day. He also worked all day in very cold weather.

Mike was able to meet with me on a weekend when I was available to go over the project. He helped me decide what I should demo and what should be saved based on cost effectiveness and from an aesthetic perspective. He did not work on only my project during the process, but that was fine with me. He did work weekends and until sundown often in order to keep moving on the project while keeping his other work moving. He was a good communicator and let me know when he would be at my house and when he wouldn't . He does most of the work himself and is meticulous and careful. He was also great about making sure my dogs didn't get out of my backyard while he was working. Even when parts of the job took longer than he expected he didn't try to hit me with additional charges. He helped design my new gazebo and it looks really great.
