The antenna now needs an adjustment, probably due to all the wind and hail we've had recently. I called and left a message and Michael promptly returned my call this morning. He explained how I could make the adjustment which really only involved moving the antenna about a 1/4 inch. He also told me to give him a call back and they would come out if I needed anything further.
I've given them the highest marks and I've been very happy with their professionalism and responsiveness. I highly recommend them especially if you're a cable cutter like me.
"thank you .."
No free estimate: Despite what it says on Angie's list, the estimate is only "free" if you agree to have them proceed with the installation while they are there. If you want to wait or even if you want them to come back, it's not free it's $59.99.
Charged for goods not received: The initial invoice charged me for 2 four-way splitters ($24.00) when in fact only one 4 way splitter was installed. Later, an 8 way splitter was installed which had by then been purchased separately myself. The original 4-way splitter was removed and taken from the premises by South Texas Blue Sky (STBS). No refund or credit was made. I was also charged for 2 ten foot mast poles ($40.00). On a subsequent visit the antenna was moved and only one approximately
5 foot mast was used. All other masts were removed and taken from the premises by STBS. No credit or refund was made.
Overcharged: Mr Varhely represented himself as representing Antennas Direct with the same pricing as the parent company. The MSRP on the antenna they installed was $159.99, on sale for $139.99. I was charged for 1 Clearstream 5 antenna ($199.00). No credit or refund was received from STBS though multiple promises were made.
Service Issues: During the initial evaluation, Mr. Varhely stated, ?You are getting 57 stations here. That?s really good; the record is 63 in San Antonio.I wish I could get this at my house.? As a direct result of his statements and in reliance on his expertise, I authorized the installation of their selected antenna. After they left I was receiving 23 channels and some, including 2 major networks, had distorted reception. Upon calling him, Mr Varhely readly agreed to come out for adjustments. Unfortunately, that did not go very well. On their second visit, STBS made adjustments to the installed antenna with little improvement. They also removed equipment from my property not belonging to them (Time Warner Cable equipment attached to side of house), failed to ground the installed antenna and mast as required by City of San Antonio Code and National Electrical Code (NEC) and cut the grounding wire which had been grounding the Time Warner Cable box. Failure to ground the mast and antenna properly put my property and personal safety at risk. Also on this visit, James tracked dirt and leaves onto my family room carpet from the side of the house.
After I found the TW equipment gone and still had problems with channels, I contacted Antenna's Direct. In three separate documented conversations I was informed that the antenna should be grounded, that for 5 TV's I needed at least a 5 way splitter, that 2 separate splitters was not a proper install and that STBS did not install the correct antenna for my location.
When I called Mr. Varhely and informed him of the problems, he said he needed to contact Paul and see what was going on. My contacts from this point were with Mr Paul Przybylowicz. Paul made several visits to the house, promising to "make everything right" and stating I "should get a full refund because of all the problems". Because of his assurances I decided not to contact the police about the theft of equipment from my property. In subsequent visits he installed the antenna I purchased from Antenna's Direct, reinstalled the TW cable box, grounded the antenna (despite telling me that Mike's position was "there is no requirement to ground the antenna in San Antonio. If we had to do all that I'd go broke") and installed the 8 way splitter I had purchased. He also left 15 pieces of trash (wires, ties, metal etc) and told me he would drop off a check the next day and pick up the incorrect antenna. He confirmed that in a later call to me at about 7 PM. Over the next 10 days or so Paul made repeated promises to drop off a cashiers check and pick up the incorrect antenna. No show.
TW has recently been out to my home and informed me that they will have to trench and bury new cable from the street to my house to put cable in because the cable was cut and removed in such a way it could not be reconnected.
I subsequently disputed the charges with my CC company based on fraudulent charges, failure to install the correct equipment
and failure to deliver the promised expertise. After reviewing my documentation and Mr. Varhely's response I received a full credit for the charges. They seemed like such nice guys but this whole mess could have been avoided if they had just made it right instead of getting defensive about the whole thing. Maybe he figures charging me for things I didn't receive/need makes up for the labor he had to pay for doing it incorrectly the first time. When things went sideways, they stopped keeping their word. I would be careful with these guys. Though they ultimately grounded my antenna, Paul indicated they had not been doing that so if they've done work you might want to check.
I?m giving an A+ for the following reasons:
-
1. Phone call response ? I called them first time and left a message. Mike called be back within 30 minutes, but I could not talk to him at that time. I called him back and Mike picked up the phone. I told him I bought a Clearstream 4V antenna from antennasdirect.com and I needed it installed. We agreed to the time and date for the installation.
-
-
2 . The accuracy of their work ? On the installation day, Mike and his co-worker came on time and installation was less than 2 hours! The accuracy of the installation (pointing the antenna in the correct direction). My antenna picks up 44 channels. I live just inside of 1604 on the northwest side of San Antonio and I get all the local stations in San Antonio, Uvalde, and Kerrville.
-
-
3. The fast work - They are efficient and they know where and how much to move the antenna. They had come a second time to move the antenna to get one of the channels ? ION channel. This only took less than 10 minutes.

4. Antennasdirect.com ? They are on the installation on antennasdirect.com.
I'm very happy with the results and highly recommend this service. Both the owner Michael and the installed Paul were responsive and stood behind their work.
The job was completed in 2 hours and things could not have gone better. I would tell others if they are thinking of doing the same thing that this company can do the job for them.
James and Mark arrived at my house, and immediately began to size up the job. They are very friendly. Since I was ending my dish service, they used the existing platform and cable from the satellite dish. There was some rewiring of the cable, and soon they began installing the antenna and running tests.
Ultimately, an antenna was chosen and the installers started positioning the antenna for best reception.
I am very pleased with the installation and the TV reception! This is an honest company and I would not hesitate to recommend. They stay until the job is finished.
