Two weeks later the washer stopped draining again. After cycling the power a couple of times, the drain pump kicked in and started working again. One week after that, the washer stopped draining again, and wouldn't drain after cycling the power. Called South Texas Appliance Repair back and they came out again on 1/9/2015. The tech wanted to charge for another service call, but I mentioned that the call back was within their 30 day labor warranty. He checked the drain pump and said it was probably going bad. He freed the impeller with a screwdriver, so the pump started working again. He said he would call back on the price for a new pump, probably around $100.00 and a little over $200.00 for the repair, including labor. Received a call from the company on 1/14/2015, asking if I had a status. Told them I was told that I would get a call back on a pump price, but hadn't received it yet.
Decided to check Angie's List to find another company to fix the drain pump. I wasn't impressed with the service from this company. It appeared there would be no credit for the earlier charge to clear the blockage, so my total out of pocket would have been over $400.00 for repairs. Usually had to leave messages with a central number and wait for a call back, up to a day later, or to keep calling back. Wouldn't recommend this company or using the maytag.com website to schedule a repair. There are much better appliance repair options.
South Texas Appliance Repair was the contractor that Lowe's contracted with to repair my newly (at the time) purchased refrigerator. The fan motor sounded like an airplane. They did replace the fan motor, but now known today (9/30/2013) that they cut the electrical wiring harness, installed a "generic" metal blade fan, and used twist-on wire connector caps to hook all of the electric back together. My refrigerator went out last week, as a result of this generic fan installation. My refrigerator fan should have been replaced with an electronic fan (as that was what the original fan was). Now I have a repair for the circuit board that is burnt out because of the fan being overworked, the fan itself needs replaced with the correct (electronic) fan, and the wiring harness need to be completely replaced because they simply cut the wires and used twist-on wire connector caps! Thankful that the shoddy job even lasted as long as it has, and that we didn't have an electrical fire.
Too bad that Angie's List doesn't accept pictures, as I have pictures to prove the shoddy workmanship.
It was a warranty job in the first place, so I'm not sure why they didn't use the correct replacement parts and install the fan using the wire harness instead of cutting the wires!
They looked at it and told me they would know what was the matter if it worked or not the next day. They never called me back. I called three times, finally getting the manager who assured me they would call me, but they never did.
He then said he would send someone else out to evaluate the machine, but they already had done this! Finally he said they would take the machine to reevaluate it, but I did not want them to do this since they are so hard to contact. So they just took the money I had already paid them and left.
My experience with South Texas Appliance Repair was stellar. Eloy was courteous, efficient, pleasant, and knowledgable.
