The workers arrived on time, and the job was complete in two days.
"Member, Thank you very much for the positive response I know it is long overdue but again thank you! Please email when you are ready to install the promised screen doors. Vincent 210-473-8408"
"This client did not give Solis General Contractor, Inc. an opportunity to go back and correct the problem if there was a problem. All that I ask is a fair chance to resolve the electrical service call. At no cost to the homeowner this item could have been resolved."
1) The electrical work was done by a man named Edward (or Eddie) who sometimes showed in an Omega Electric truck and rarely worked without drinking. One Saturday they sounded like they were having an huge party in the backyard. Twice i came home from work to find Edward's crew had left the water in the sink running (not dripping, but actually running). On several occasions I came home to find one of the exterior doors standing wide open with the crew gone for the day. One day one of his crew took a machete and hacked a potted plant to death. His crew used my shovels to start digging a trench to bury cable, then left them in the rain covered with dirt. The trench they dug in the back yard was open for 5 months before they finally ran the electrical wire to the garage. The actual work was sloppy. The city electrical inspector even commented on how bad the work was. He told me that Edward took every shortcut that he possible could. I recently repaired a light in the garage that flickered 24/7 (even when turned off) that Edward couldn't (or wouldn't) fix. Edward made no effort to install outlets straight and it was so bad on one side that I had to loosen and straighten just about every single outlet and switch.
2) The HVAC work was done by a very likeable man named Andres Pena. Although he was a pleasant man, he rarely showed up when he said he would and he did very sloppy work on the rare occasions that he would actually work. He installed brand new HVAC units but wouldn't even provide filters. He told me he'd bring one by in a few days and that I could just run the unit without a filter until then. Of course he never brought one and I didn't wait for him to, anyway. His ductwork leaked, he failed to put the screws in one of the units that hold the sides on, and one of the plenums is still just barely hanging on to the unit. I had to hire someone to run the gas line to the attic (even though that was included in the estimate Solis gave me) because Mr. Pena kept complaining about having to do it and kept putting it off. I fully expect the roof to leak where he installed the vents through it, but it hasn't rained enough to tell since he's been finished. One of the thermostats was defective and it took him about 2 months to replace it. He completely lost the manual that goes with one of the HVAC units, including the manual for the condenser. Like all of Solis' so-called workers, Mr. Pena was very unreliable and extremely slow. More often not, he failed to show up when he was supposed to. I'm not saying he was late, I'm saying he would not show up at all.
3) The exterior wood replacement was actually done quite well. I believe the man's name who did most of this work was Pepe'. Unfortunately, Pepe' didn't do anymore work on my house after that. But he was the only one of Solis' workers that seemed to take pride in his work.
4) The tile work and other miscellaneous work was done by Mario. DO NOT, under any circumstances, let Mario anywhere near your house. Mario hung around my kitchen for about 10 days taking measurements and talking about the tile work he was going to do. When I finally complained to Solis that he was taking too long, he got mad and slapped the tile down and did a terrible job with the grout work. Solis had to send another guy named Pablo over to repair Mario's mess and install the tile in the bathroom. Mario was supposed to patch the holes and do the miscellaneous repairs caused by the electrical and HVAC work. He initially did a good job, but about halfway through he got REAL sloppy. He never patched several holes and his work was so bad that I didn't complain after a while, I would just patch them myself.
Aside from Pepe's work, I can think of absolutely nothing positive to say about Soils and his so-called workers. It was like a circus with nothing but clowns. At some point, the clowns lost the key to one side of the duplex. Solis said he was going to have a locksmith come and re-key the place, but that was just another of his lies and I had to have it re-keyed myself. One day I came home and found the house numbers had been removed my house and thrown out in the yard! I talked to one of my neighbors who said that Solis had once done good work for him, but I find it hard to believe. Perhaps my work was just too difficult for his crew. Maybe if you hired him for simple carpentry or painting, he could handle it. As for myself, I will never let the man back on my property. He started on my work, which he said he would finish in 15 working days, in September 2010 and stretched it out until late April 2011. He never did completely finish, but I got tired of trying to get him to fix the things that were done improperly, even the things the city inspector said needed to be done. Besides, on too many occasions I would take off from work to meet his workers at my house and they would not show up, so I won't waste my time with them anymore. I know there are more examples of Solis' incompetence and unprofessionalism I could point out, but I can't think of them at the moment. Hopefully I've said enough that you won't make the same mistake that I did. Just don't fall for his low estimate; I wouldn't let him work on my house again for free.
"Some of the information provided by this client is true and some of the information is not, The project was almost a year ago. Throughout the project we had our faults with various items but I was always respectful to him and I always reached out to him to make corrections to our problems. I do not expect to get any resolution from this posting, I only wanted to apologize."
"It was a pleasure to work with this client and would like the opportunity to go back and install the 2 screen doors."
