I found this handyman to do a small repair on my elderly father's ceiling fan light pull. He can no longer climb ladders and I have RA, so I can't either. I had called some providers closer in, but none of them returned my calls. The one company that did does not do small jobs. Rick answered my call and said he'd be right over. Within an hour he was! His service is located further out from Leon Valley, but my dad really wanted this fixed and we offered to pay a bit more for gas and time to get him out that day.   Very polite and punctual.

He went right to work and got the fan pull fixed. My father then told him he was having trouble with the coding on his new garage door opener. Rick messed with it for awhile but it didn't work. Turns out Dad had bought the wrong one, but Rick carefully explained what to get and how to code it in, and we were later successfully able to do it with my daughter's help. He did not charge extra for this task, which is so nice since my father doesn't have a lot of money. Rick was very pleasant, honest, punctual  and helpful, and we have already recommended him to a neighbor. He said his policy is that "even a small job is big to the person needing it done."  Excellent work ethic!

Richard was a no-show for our appointment. I was disappointed because he sounded reliable during our phone conversation. We discussed the list of items to be completed and scheduled a time. I took the day off work in order to be home while he completed the projects. It was a wasted day for me.

Provided estimate for project. Rick arrived on time, and quickly set to work. He discussed placement of unit with me, and measured and marked location. He built and installed a very sturdy wooden base, and assembled a large outdoor portable storage unit. He worked continuously, even though it was over 100 degrees outside. The quality of the construction of the wooden base, and careful assembly of the unit was outstanding. Rick did an exceptional job. We would definitely recommend this gentleman to others requiring completion of similar projects. We were very pleased with his work.

I was happy with whatever he did. I had bought the tile already. I really like him; he is a nice man, he does his work, and he knows how to do all kinds of different things that I cannot do. He even explains things to me, which I really appreciate. I had no problem and he cleaned up any mess that he made. I will use him again.

He was wonderful. He is reliable, fair, reasonably priced and has given us the freedom to not have to use a property manager. He is a great handyman. It was a long distance job and we entrusted him to look at the house and get it ready to rent, and he did a great job. I would absolutely recommend him to others.

He arrived when he said he would. Very polite and nice. He observed my leaking sink and found it was an easy fix. But thought it would be less expensive for me to do this rather than him unless I wanted him to. He also observed the screen door and fixed the problem. I would definitely hire him again.

I cannot say enough good things about Richard. He answered my husbands phone call right away and was great in scheduling a time to come repair that fit our schedule. Reasonably priced and if anything he undercharges for the amazing work he does. We had an ant problem, my husband tracked the source to my closet and proceeded to rip the baseboards off and then found we had mold on the baseboards and sheet rock from a previous toilet over flow in addition to ants living in our our insulation between our shower and closet. Richard came by and addressed the problem and actually tried to save us money by letting my husband know what could be done to fix it without his services. In the end we decided to hire him due to my husband not being comfortable in working with Sheetrock. Richard was on time, and got the job done the same day. Will be sure to use again if I have any other issues. Cannot recommend enough!

Rick Perkis did a fine job. He gave me a reasonable price for parts and labor and did a very neat job of a difficult tear out and replacement, working overhead from a ladder. He adjusted it for a snug fit, and cleaned up all the debris on a hot afternoon.
I gather he has a lot of experience in home repairs, and I will call him again if needed.

I have tried to call this business within the last 90 days. He was great when he cam out and replaced old toilet and installed new one. He was very reasonable. We have tried to contact him several times with in the past year but his phone only goes to voice mail and he does not return calls. We have had to call other businesses to get the work we need. If he is not doing this kind of work anymore or is working full time then he should have the courtesy to return calls and say he is not doing this kind of work any more. He has become unreliable and we will no longer call him for service

"[Member name removed], I apologize for not getting back with you....I have not been getting calls to my phone, during the summer I usually go through 2 or 3 phones due to moisture damage from sweating. You are not the only one and I am trying to get back with customers that think the same thing you do. Once again I truly apologize for any inconvenience that I may have caused you."

Nice man.  He is a motivated worker, does not require supervision, and was good with my animals.  He gave  a bid and stuck with it.  He works alone so job completion is slower than a team of workers.  Good at providing receipts and keeping up with draw and costs.  He has been timely for the most part and called when he would be delayed (only once).  He drives a car instead of a truck - which could have been a concern, but he didn't have any problems transporting supplies.  Most importantly, he is honest.  I have no hesitation leaving my house open while he is here. He is now working on another job for me and  I  will certainly continue to use him.

We had a 20 year old sun room that needed to be torn down in one afternoon. The way this modular room was constructed and glued together, we know we'd need help. Rick was flexible with when we needed him, and even flexible when I called late that morning and pushed it back one hour. We also had some electrical lines to the lighting and fans we needed to disconnect but maintain.
RIck was very professional and friendly. He helped us (mainly my husband) take out the windows and then used a saw to cut down the 11x20 structure. Everything was down, clean and hauled away in 3.5 hours.
We plan on hiring Rick for bigger projects in the future.

I emailed Old Fashion Handyman and I did not get a phone call or email. The least they could of done is give me a courtesy call letting me know that they do not service my area or that at this time they are too busy.. Not very professional on their part.
Response from

"[member name removed], I apologize for not getting back with you, at the time I was out of town trying to move family to san antonio due medical issues. I deeply regret not getting back with you or calling you to let you know what was going on with me. I hope you will give me another chance to service your home repair needs."

I have called this company 2 to 3 times and got no answer, I have left messages stating what I wanted done but I got no response whatsoever.

"Customer I deeply apologize for not getting back with you, I have had 3 deaths in my family within 6 months and have been very busy dealing with these situations. I am working on getting back to my normal way of operation. Once again I apologize for the inconvenience that I have caused you."

Poorly since he didn't bother to extend the courtesy of a reply. Perhaps another phone call would have made a difference but I attempted to respect his wishes regarding method of contact.

He was tied up on a job that was going to take him 2 weeks. He suggested that if I wanted the work done soon, to try finding someone else on Angie's List. I felt this was very professional and shows his reliability, as he did not string me along or just disregard my calls. In our discussion, it appeared that he had no problem doing smaller jobs.

Called Old Fashion Handyman and Rick was very good good in keeping the appointment to see what I needed. He was very punctual and said he would get back to me in the next couple of days. I needed light fixture covers, trim painted, light switch replaced and some rotten facia and door jam wood replaced. He hooked us up with Russ and and the next weekend Russ was here painting and repairing. Russ is very professional, knowledgable and capable of any household repairs. Everything was professionally done and I would recommend them (Rick and Russ) for any jobs around the house! Outstanding customer service and professionalism!!
