We were in a 3 year contract with MJ for maintenance/inspections. They came out and inspected on schedule, sent us the report. Then, a week later, we had an alarm, so called and they came the next day. The tech came and left without speaking with us (unusual, they've always talked to us before when it was an actual issue, not an inspection), so I called him. He explained what he thought was wrong, but that the company had recently decided to stop servicing our brand of septic tank, so they can't fix it. First of all, WHAT? You know what septic system we have, why would you send someone out when you know you can't fix it. Second, why would you not notify the customers you have with this system that you've decided to stop supporting it? They have the type of system on file, it's on the paperwork they printed for each inspection. When my husband called the office, the office manager told him they were basically waiting for our service contract to run out and then they would tell us and not renew it. They told us the reason they could no longer support the system is they've been unable to receive up-to-date training from the brand (Norweco). So I searched for Norweco and called the corporate headquarters in Ohio. I explained our situation. (Remember - we have a red light alarm, and are now under the impression that we must find someone certified by Norweco in order to effectively repair the system. Also going through our heads was that we'd had an aerator replaced by MJ already.) Norweco explained that's not how any of this works. They don't refuse anyone training - they refer them to the local rep that has been licensed as a trainer and distributor for their products. They gave me numbers for two different companies, one in Bexar county and one in Comal county, and were extremely helpful. Next I called the company licensed for Bexar County. I explained the situation. He said he knew of MJ, but that they had never contacted him for parts OR training. At this point I'm freaking out about my aerator. He agreed to come out and figure out what was wrong with the unit. While here, he pulled pretty much everything apart. First - he pulled out some pieces that he said should be fairly clean if the unit was just serviced a week previous. They were filthy. Second, the aerator was aftermarket. It'll "work fine", but doesn't fit perfectly, and it turned out the problem that we had is related to it shaking back and forth in the fittings because it's not made for them. Also, the plug for the aerator was facing up, which means rain water was collecting in the plug housing. This doesn't speak to them installing incorrectly, just carelessness on their part to not make sure it was facing down so there was no possibility of shorting out. After a facebook PSA in our neighborhood facebook group that the company no longer services these units, several calls and texts, MJ did refund the remainder of the contract. This is what I want known: I have no issue with MJ deciding as a company to stop supporting these units. The issue I have is that they decided to keep their customers in the dark. Lack of transparency in business is completely unacceptable. As an aside, while all this was going on, my father was literally in his last hours after a 2 year battle with terminal cancer. I explained this to the owner, and she was kind. But then proceeded to call my husband twice, and send him multiple emails until he got on the phone with her. Her goal was simply to get that facebook post down immediately, nothing else. I found it distasteful.

"In response to this review, we will say that there was zero time (45 minutes) given to management to respond to this situation before this client took to social media to state incorrect/false information & chose to slander, in what we believe as an act of emotions they were personally dealing with at the time. Neither one had a moment to speak with me on the phone yet had time to call other companies to discuss the matter & post on social media & Angie’s List. That speaks volumes of the resolve they weren’t looking for. This situation was a learning experience for MJ Septic. We do not feel that we are doing any of our clients with these types of aerobic systems wrong or keeping them in the dark, as this type of reaction was a first for us. We are licensed to service, pump, install and repair aerobic systems in Texas, by TCEQ. We have been in business 20 years & understand how Norweco chooses to conduct business with non-installers of their systems. I cannot & will not speak for other local septic maintenance providers in how they choose to conduct their business. I gave the [Member Name Removed]’s several options to choose from, like previously have with other homeowners of this brand. We feel this was extremely transparent. They request their monies back and I agreed. I requested that they remove their social media posting, just like much of the review here, which they didn’t agree to. They felt the need to warn the entire neighborhood about MJ Septic, which I live in. They prompted a response on social media to defend our company, which is unprofessional. I personally relate to losing someone to cancer. My staff nor I would never treat anyone in that manner, regardless of the situation. How my staff & I were spoken to, then told that we deserved what we got &social media slandered, is extremely distasteful. We only wish them well moving forward & hope they have found a service provider they’re truly happy with. Respectfully, MJ Septic"

Talked to Stephanie at MJ and she scheduled for a Monday. They could not keep the appointment because of a unexpected time the prior job took. They sent someone to find the tank on Tuesday, and then pumped it on Wednesday. The fee for finding the tank was added to the pump charge. They applied my Angie’s List discount. They keep me informed and did the job required. They were courteous and apologize for the delays.

MJ Septic has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Their field employees are competent, but they won't ring your doorbell to let you know as they are coming or going (they do call the day prior...which is nice, but it's common courtesy to announce yourself upon arrival/departure). My main problem is with their office staff. The person 'Jennifer' who answers the phones is the very rude. Her un-professionalism is out of control. I just tried to cancel my service with MJ Septic and she kept sending me to a line that no one picked up and didn't allow for voicemail messages. I called twice with the same results, then when I tried a third time, she must have blocked my number or something because the call wouldn't go through. I simply wanted her to take a message -- you would think that would be nothing out of the normal. Very, very rude person. I remember talking to her previously about a problem I had with my septic tank and she was very condescending and arrogant. I asked her if someone could come out to help fix a line that got broken during a construction project and she basically scolded me about how the equipment shouldn't have gone over the pipes. I wasn't trying to have MJ Septic fix the problem for free or anything...I was simply trying to get them to come out to fix it. I have no idea how they stay in business with customer-facing employees that have such an attitude. Absolutely worst experience. I highly do NOT recommend this company. Additionally, they are very over-priced.

WELL! Serviceman was polite, and professional. He had a full tank, and had to return to complete the second septic tank. One tank was not covered completely, so we did it to prevent a hole in the yard.

My interactions with this company have been great! I was in new home with a septic system and knew nothing about having a septic tank. One evening, I saw the red light blinking on the tank and was concerned. I looked on the internet and saw this company's website and the website explained that the red light would need to be checked but it was not an emergency. This was good news - not an emergency. I called the company and left a message (it was a weekend). I was called back early Monday morning and an appointment was set up. I shared that I was new to septic tanks and knew nothing about them. The lady who I spoke said that she would tell the technician to give me a walk through on my septic tank. Hector, the technician, was great. As he looked at the septic tank, he explained to me what he was doing and answered all the questions that I had. A small part needed to be replaced and he was able to make the replacement right away! Hector also showed me how to replace the chlorine pellets. Thanks to Hector, I learned about the need for chlorine pellets and I am able to place them in the septic! Jennifer who I talked with on the phone was also helpful with questions that I had. She spent time with me on the phone and was helpful and most pleasant. All in all, I am glad that I found this company. All aspects in dealing with this company have been great!!

I hire a company in Angie?s List magazine. They were very efficient. I think they?re supposed to come out every 3 months and they supposed to come out in January, it?s quarterly. They had me do a contract and I chose a 3-year contract because I?m not into fixing septic tanks. I do all kinds of things, but not septic tanks. What happened is that the red light came on and they were an indication that there was something going on. I had noticed that the air hose was cut by the new gardener. They helped me out and that was good. I would say the prices are comparable with the charge we paid earlier when our house was built. They all charge about the same. It was reasonably When I mentioned that I was a member of Angie?s List they discounted a number amount. I don?t know if it was $50 or $20. It was a fair price. I just compared the price with 2 others that I?ve had before and theirs was just fine.
They came in a very timely manner. I had to leave to take a grand-daughters to an Irish dance and the man came here and waited here for me to come here to do the service. He didn?t get here in the time frame that he said. When I called the office, the lady had forgotten to tell him to come in the morning. I can forgive things like that. He waited for me, so that was good. He was very professional. He was very friendly, he was nice to my daughter?s dogs, ?oh, I like dogs.?

As agreed when I made appointment driver would call before arriving. Driver (Alex) called and was actually early. Alex was very professional, set up, pumped the septic tank, and was gone in no time. Would use again and recommend to anyone.

Back in May 2015, our tech noted that his sprinkler pump has gone out. Mr. [Member Name Removed] was very upset as the 2 year warranty had long expired. He decided from that moment on, we were not a worthy company. This is something well out of our control. I am not certain if he was unhappy his system warranty expired or if he didn't agree upon the price of the replacement part.
