He did an excellent job! We now have have a beautiful backsplash. It took a while to do, as there were some trial and efforts. I'd recommend him to anyone.

After waiting 3 weeks, it took another week before I could get Jeff Dempsey Construction to come out and do an assessment. And then another few days after that before the job finally got started. All in all, getting someone in San Antonio to do both pipe and ceiling work (because they had to cut a square out to get at the pipe from below) was nearly an exercise in futility and frustration.
Once the job got going, it all seemed to go smooth enough... however, I must admit I did something I never thought I'd do. Because the contractor came well recommended from Lone Star State and was himself an Angie's list member, as well as meeting him personally, I allowed the contractor access to my house while I was at work. A move I would later regret.
I must couch this by saying that Jeff Dempsey has an assistant "Gary” that I never met. However, after meeting with Jeff on the assessment, he completely vouched for his partner, and in the end... I was tired of searching for someone to handle this repair, so again, allowed free access to my home. I paid a deposit up front, which I figure is standard and would pay the remaining on completion. Starting on 29 July, the job was nearly finished by Wednesday evening... all that was needed was the painting.
After an exchange of calls, all seemed about done (as mentioned, just the painting was left) so because the contractor could not wait for me to arrive home, I left a check for the balance plus tip. So on Thursday afternoon, I came home early (1pm) to find no one there, and a note stating he could not find paint, and... the check for the balance was gone. No phone call mind you earlier in the day to ask the question about the paint, even though it had been sitting out on the counter all week. So after much back and forth, it was determined I needed a whole quart of fresh paint (no explanation as to why he didn't call me) and I personally went off to the paint store to get matching paint.
Enter Friday. Unfortunately, Friday became too busy for Jeff and he begged off finishing the job until Saturday morning... fine, what else could I say? Until I got a text at 9:15pm on Friday evening telling me that something came up and he could not come by on Saturday. You can imagine frustration. After waiting so long to get this started, I am now being held at ransom for an unfinished job, 2 checks that had BOTH been cashed, access to my home, and certainly giving the impression that he had just run out on this job.
I will make a point to say that the work did appear to be quality as I no longer have the leak and the ceiling was patched up pretty well. He also made an adjustment on my kitchen sink that had come loose and was leaking.
Enter Monday. I come home from work to find my rear garage door hanging wide open, but the house access (house access was a garage door opener with the house key left in a hidden spot) returned and the job done. Annoyed to find the interior garage door hanging open like that, but the work was done. Finally. Case closed...
A week goes by and I am slowly forgetting the herculean coordination efforts and getting back to normal when on Monday of the following week, I came home to find my front door kicked in and left drooping open. Mind you, this isn't the Dominion, but a very nice neighborhood that had not seen this type of robbery within this subdivision. There had been plenty of vandals and sorts from cars/houses left unlocked, however, this was not the case. Gone were my 55" flat screen, camera, money, and rings. This in the middle of the afternoon and at the end of a cul-de-sac!!! One way in and one way out.
While I cannot say for certain what happened, and a pending investigation continues, the huge coincidence is there... I am the original owner for 8 years and nothing has ever occurred on this cul-de-sac until soon after I gave access to my home. Add to that the shadiness of cashing checks before the job was complete and the fact I never met his partner, I felt obligated to put out the warning out to you all. Just because we go through Angie's list, does not mean bad things can't happen. While I may never have found anyone to work around my work hours, I will in the future insist that I am present for the work.
UPDATE: 25 Aug 13. As mentioned already... the event of my being robbed (for the first time ever and first time on this block) within a week of their work is purely and highly coincidental. Was the garage left open all day? Was there a gang of teenagers roaming the block and noted my flatscreen box in the garage? As I said already, I will probably never know what happened or why my home became a target. I personally do not believe Jeff or his assistant had anything personally do with the incident nor is the intention to imply anything about Jeff Dempsey and his assistant Gary. As I said prior, the quality (and I rated it as such) of diagnosing and fixing the problem was good. However, after being verbally assaulted in a voice mail over my review and reminding myself that I had to spend an extra 4 days chasing Jeff down to finish the job AFTER cashing the final check, I felt obliged to warn others that you should not leave your home open to just anyone and should always have someone in your home to monitor the activities in and about your home when you hire ANYONE... not just for this particular situation or company, but for anyone you hire for any job.

Do call Jeff!
My upstairs master bathroom toilet had been leaking due to a
faulty installation of the wax gasket for about 13 years. My wife noticed that the carpet was wet around
the base of the toilet and so I proceeded to replace the wax ring. As I started to dig away at the rotten wood
I knew it was time to call in a professional.
After reviewing my options on Angie’s List, I decided to give Jeff a
call. At this point I already removed
the toilet and had a large hole in my floor and an active 2 year old wanting to
investigate. Jeff came out the evening that
I called and gave me an accurate estimate, his guys were at my house the next day
or day after to begin the work. They
ripped out all of the rotten wood and replaced it, fixed another plumbing
problem I had, took out the old nasty carpet, and tiled the master bath for
me. They busted their tails and got us
back into a nice clean functioning bathroom.
I appreciate all of their hard work and recommend Jeff and his crew to everyone!

I was pleased with the work he did. I just thought he was very good. I thought his pricing was reasonable. You know he took it with minimal guidance from design and did a good bookcase, he prefabricated it and brought it out and installed it in my house. He had to some coordination with the people that were doing the floor and told them what he needed them to do and all that. He was super good. I would use him again.

Jeff responded in a day or two after the initial phone call for a quote. He wrote up the contract and all was agreed upon. He started by bringing the materials to the house and setting up the work area. Once they began, the work was done in a timely manner of about 5 business days. He and his crew were punctual and did a good job. There is also a warranty on the work, which give us the added assurance.

Angie's List recommended him. He did a great job, and he did it at a great price, I could not be happier. I am happy with everything he did, I can't complain, he did everything, and my bathroom is beautiful.

Jeff came on a weekend to give us an estimate. This estimate ended up being a little under what we spent, but mostly due to upgrades we decided on along the way. Jeff and his 2 partners were present everyday that work was being done. He was always very communicative, answered all of my questions along the way and also had no problems when asked to change the plan or add on "extras" that were not initially discused. We had some unforeseen plumbing issues with our tub, which they handled very professionally, working to make sure to consider every detail before completing/fixing the problem. In the end we are very happy with the finished product and have asked him to do some smaller work in another bedroom. As a side note, Jeff also noticed a broken drawer in our kitchen one day, offered to fix it, took it home and fixed it on his own time!!!

He talked a good game and he was friendly. I liked him because it was just him and two other guys. Three other guys were going to do the work. He gave me a decent price but he told me it would take three weeks and it ended up taking two and a half months. They would only work four hours at a time. He gave me one number on the estimate but it came in $3000 more. Because the job took him longer than he thought he started nickel and diming me and adding to the quote. He did let me know when he was going to be late or not coming at all and he explained why he only worked four hours. One week he didn't show up because his back gave out. He didn't clean up his mess when he was done. He would have but he was going to charge me more for that; he was going to charge me $150 to dispose of the leftover materials when the job was done. Towards the end I was just not happy. I wasn't happy with how he did the foundation of the room. In the future, if people ask me about him, I wouldn't recommend him.

I don't know anything about door frames, and he was the only one I called, so I don't know how to grade the price. I had called another company for the same job, and they recommended Mr. Dempsey to me. I may use him in the future.

This was my first experience with a home renovation of this magnitude and I was a little nervous. Jeff and his guys proved that they are above the rest in this industry. I offered to buy Jeff and his guys lunch one afternoon, and Jeff said that they usually do not take lunch breaks and that they would prefer to continue working - how fantastic is that! And as stated, Jeff and his guys worked and worked until the job was done. Jeff and his guys were exactly what I wanted and they did a wonderful job on our bathroom. Jeff Dempsey Construction will be my first call for our next project and I would highly recommend him for yours. If you're looking for the highest quality work, the best pricing, and the most professionalism, without dealing with a large corporation, Jeff Dempsey Construction should be your first call.

I heard about Jeff from a larger remodeling company on Angie's List. We wanted our leaking shower taken out and rebuilt. We shook hands on the price and he went to work the next week. He always did what he said he was going to do, always cleaned up after his crew and was very respectful to my wife and two daughters. I highly recommend him.
He has had to come back 3 times and the glass company has come back 3 times also to fix things. The shower door still leaks during every shower, all of the grout is cracking and the caulk is molding (and this is after 6 different return visits). All of which was promised it would not do. A complete waste of time and money. I apologize for anyone who took my advices and might have hired him. He is a nice guy but has yet to give me my moneys worth.

Response from Jeff Dempsey Construction
"We have reached an agreement to reolve and fix the problems with the customer. The shower door was installed by others and not by us. That is being addressed by them. The shower valve was the existing and we have determined the problem. We are scheduling in to repair the minor grout cracks. Customer has agreed to these objectives."

Jeff was a pleasure to work with from the beginning. He always showed up on time, and when he had a family emergency he came out on the weekend to make up the time. Everything he said he would deliver he did, on time and done superbly! We would definitely hire him again. His many years of experience renovating bathrooms was evident. No matter what came up, he knew how to deal with it professionally. Communication was superb, he kept us informed on every step of the project. We felt the price he charged was commensurate with his level of expertise and we were happy with it. Over $1k of the amount was materials, we chose expensive tile.
Don't hesitate to call Jeff!

He ended up working only two days. He said he needed more materials that we needed to buy for him, but we told him to use his money and he refuses to come back to finish the work. We've gone with someone else for the work going forward

Jeff and Gary obviously work together frequently and certainly I found that they work well together although they are independent contractors in their own right. They were thorough, professional and competent in their work and I appreciated the fact that they were careful to save as much of the existing trim, etc. from the doors as they could to minimize the cost for new and unnecessary materials. The front door installation necessitated a second partial day on the job which neither Jeff or I had foreseen. I noted a couple of minor items that I thought were incomplete and as soon as I noted these and contacted Jeff he came immediately and insured that the final product was complete to my total satisfaction. I can safely say that these items were not only minor, but most likely a result of a miscommunication between Jeff and me when we discussed the job originally. I am already planning to use Jeff again in the future as a result of this first job.

O, silly, silly me. I thought I could install a shower surround myself. It didn’t take too long to realize I was in over my head. Jeff came in and saved the day. Not only did he repair my errors, he corrected design errors made by the original builders and finished out my bathroom quickly and professionally. I couldn’t be happier.
