we should be able to send someone this week Dan KlobedansHammonds Wood Floors, Inc. Nov 17, 2014.
We purchased two 1920s bungalows on the same property in a historic district this past summer, and Hammond's was the company the previous owner of the houses had chosen to restore the floors.
The properties were still under renovation when we put them under contract, but we were assured that the flooring, as well as the other items in the homes would be covered under a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, this has applied to all aspects of the homes, "EXCEPT" for the flooring.
Prior to closing, I had actually personally met with and discussed some flooring issues
with Mr. Hammond directly, while we walked the property with the previous owner. Both Mr. Hammond, and the previous owner assured me that the problems were very minor and could easily be fixed. The issues included: (1) holes in the flooring that went straight through to the insulation,(2) missing pieces of boards, (3) burnt pieces of boards that weren't replaced, (4) sharp, splintered areas, and (5) rotted areas. After our walk-through, we agreed that I would call him to set up a time to work on the warranty work after closing, because they were extremely busy. He informed me that warranty work had to be scheduled around the other
projects currently underway, and suggested I call in a month or so (October/November).
So, when I called him in November, he said that he was happy to have a team come out to assess the areas of concern, but that he would have to charge me. He denied ever saying that any of the work would be covered under warranty, and went on to say that the previous owner "wanted" to leave the house that way.
Since I was confused at first, I reminded him of our walk through the house, and that he had agreed with me on all accounts, as did the former owner, who is widely known for his quality renovations. Again, Mr. Hammond said, "no," he didn't remember, and that it wasn't warranty work.
At this point, I asked him why he had asked me to wait until Oct/Nov to call and schedule the work to be done? He then became unprofessional and argumentative, at which time I decided to end the conversation.
I have reviewed quite a few contractors on Angie's List, and I find it unfortunate to have to submit a review like this, but I think it is a huge 'red flag' that they denied their initial warranty, and that other possible clients should be aware of this practice.
I definitely feel taken advantage of, and have had to pay another contractor to repair all of the damaged areas in the house.
"Thank you [member name removed] for your positive response and we will tell Tim and Val you are happy with your floors. We value your honesty and will continue to improve communication with our clients as the job progresses. Thank you for your business and please let us know if you have any further questions or if there is anything we can help you with. - Jerrod Hammonds -"
"Thank you [member name removed] for the superb review. We are glad to hear that your are enjoying the finished product and value the quality craftsmanship. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call and our Hardwood floor experts can assist. - Jerrod Hammonds"
They have their own installers...no subs....and the foundation was tested for moisture/leaks until they were convinced that there were no issues involved except for those removed planks that showed signs of mold and moisture damage. NO issues with our foundation!.....Hickory flooring was installed and we could not be happier with using Marty Hammonds and his company.
These are good Christian people and the gentleman that finished our floor .......he told us "Thank you for allowing me to install this floor and God Bless."
Amazing. I can't say enough good things regarding this company and their professional attitudes and business. Quality people!! I would use them again and recommend them highly.
"Somehow your project must have slipped through our quality control without proper attention. Were regarded as the best in town because we make things right when there is a problem. Immediately we called to follow up on completion and our team was met with verbal hostility and as a result were unable to complete any quality control measures. If you would call us back we will replace or repair the issues at our cost. Members please read on to our other ratings as this is an isolated incident."
"Thank you for the kind words. Your project really turned out nice and we were glad to have had your trust to walk you through the entire process. We are celebrating 30 years completing this type of work this year and are pleased that you helped us reach this milestone."
"We were on two large jobs months prior to contracting with the member. At the time we agreed on a schedule there was an opening to do her job. Due to an uexpected change in the contractor's schedule, these previous jobs required additional work and many finishers on a very tight time frame for a customer move in date. When this became evident we found it impossible to meet the member's time schedule. We could have finished her job with a little more time. In a service oriented business such as ours, we juggle 20 to 30 jobs at a time with varying schedules and durations. We try to blend these together to be efficient and timely, but, some customers dictate changes that leave conditions beyond our control. The installation we completed for the member was done in a professional manner with no complaint. She was only charged for the work performed. I can understand the member's disappointment and I apologize to her for the change. However, we are known for taking very good care of our customers and make every effort to meet our deadlines."
