They added 3 interior beams to carry the roof load after removing the back walls. It took 3 months and they were very professional and clean in all their work. If you want the best hire them. Marvin doors recommended them as the only one in San Antonio that they would recommend to do the job. They also added wood floors in the area. The cost was around $50000.

They're high in price but they're also extremely high quality work. I think they're extremely reliable, they have a lot of their own personnel so they would use some subs. I guess somewhat limited by that so they're able to do a lot of things and help. I would use them again in the future.

The crew was on time, polite and professional. They cleaned up at the end of each day. On the last day I found more rotted wood, the guys replaced it quickly. However, I would have expected the person that worked in that area to find it and say it needed to be replaced. Additionally, an awning was replaced with primer only, before it was painted. Overall, I would recommend Cross Construction.

If you want the contractor you hire to do everything they say they are going to do, to do everything when they they say they will, to do the work at the highest quality and expertise, to have your job-site be the cleanest one attainable, and to have professional and caring crews, then Cross is the contractor to use. I cannot imagine how a high-end contractor could do any better.

They are a very professional construction company. The schedule was started and finished within the projected time frame of 3 months. The work crews are very skilled, knowledgeable, punctual, hard working, and friendly. They all went out of their way to listen to my input and make sure that everything was top notch. The work areas were kept clean each day, and materials were protected from the weather. The price was higher than other bids that we got, but well worth the end results! I highly recommend their services for any construction work you need.

If someone was going to be late or delayed I was always contacted and knew when to expect the crew. I thought they were a little expensive, but I was impressed with their customer service so I didn't have to deal with those type of headaches which are prevalent in this industry.

The job went very well. Work was done professionally, in a timely manner, and on budget. We used a lock box on the house and had no issues with workers being there without us. We plan to use this contractor to upgrade our bathrooms in the near future.

Wife and I decided to redo shower after an unknown water leak behind old shower caused the tile to separate. Well, we went from just fixing shower to remodeling entire master bath. We were thinking we’re already doing this why not do it big. Researched Angies List as we always do and decided to get several bids. Met with other companies (which were cheaper) but were most impressed and “at ease” with Craig Scott of Cross Construction. He met with us and discussed our options and asked about a budget. We initially felt 35k but knew my need for higher end materials and quality would push that number up. Craig came up with a bid based on initial number and explained we could easily change materials with cost difference being adjusted to bid. Cross Construction is NOT the lowest priced but who wants the cheapest bid when dealing with their home. I don’t mind paying more for quality. I explained to Craig that we wanted to use Cross Construction because they understood “I expect and demand perfection (straight lines and no shortcuts) I am very OCD.” Craig understood this and has built his reputation on these traits.
Several months passed as we had other issues in life and Cross Construction was working on other projects. We finally settled on a start date. I met Mark W who would be project leader and would be at the job site through completion. My wife and I moved out of the master bedroom to other room due to all dust and debris coming from bathroom. We decided to have Cross paint and
replace carpet in master bedroom. Cross was prompt that first morning and brought six men to move all furniture (Beds, nightstands, dresser, etc) to other room. They than sealed off bedroom with tape around door so no dust would get out. They would use back door out of bedroom from this point forward. They covered all vents and proceeded to tear out everything.
I was very impressed with their business like demeanor. During the tear out and construction I would meet with Mark daily and he was very professional and polite. During the process the work area was swept and organized daily. WOW.
There were several issues that arose during the construction that Mark brought to my attention immediately. Certain positioning of towel cabinet (which they had nothing to do with) did not allow light into bathroom and really did not go with feel of the room. Mark and Cross Construction worked to move cabinet to other corner and fix to the best of their abilities. This did add to the cost of project but the increased cost was not as much as ordering an entirely new cabinet.
The bathroom was nearly completed when I noticed the wall tile seemed off. It appeared that the tiles did not meet in some places. I brought this up and was told this was due to the dimensional tile chosen for the shower wall was bowed. This bowing could be seen when two bowed ends met. This did not look right. Mark and Cross Construction adjusted grout to mask dimensional misalignment. The tile is a whole lot better. If you look really hard you can see the depth off a bit but not enough to replace an entire shower wall. I can live with this and understand issues will arise in ANY custom job. It has been a couple of weeks since completion and a couple of minor issues (custom mirrors had minor imperfections around inner frame perimeter) have come up. I very pleased to say that Cross has sent out technician(s) to fix immediately with no hesitation. This company stands by their work. In fact, they automatically come out 6 – 8 weeks after a job is completed to see what needs addressed/adjusted once everything has had time to settle.
I want to give this bit of advice to anyone planning a custom remodel project. IT WILL BE STRESSFUL. It is the nature of change
and really knowing if you will like the outcome. I can only say Craig Scott and Cross Construction will alleviate a good amount of that stress. Who could ask for anything more.
I will let Angie’s List know about our 8 week follow up with Cross. I don’t expect any issues.
Sincerely
Peter Fernandez

For budget reasons, I chose to divide the work into 3 parts over 5 years. Each time, the crew was superb! Always punctual, efficient, tidy, and wonderful, quality work. Price is higher than some, but worth it. Craig Scott listens to what you want, and works within your budget, while giving expert advice. I am currently planning another project that is for a living area addition with an extension of a bedroom and bath. I highly recommend Cross Construction.

My wife and i wanted to add a room with a larger washroom included ,we ended up getting two bids for the addition.Cross construction was not the lowest price but they definitely were worth the price .They were prepared the whole way from start to finish. The project manager,Mike would add in ideas on what would make the room more efficient whether it was outside lights or extra wood framing for a television wall mount. Mike would be here pretty much every day to monitor the work and make sure things we're done correct.Every week the Owner Craig Scott would come by to check on the progress of the job. They listen to what you want i never had a problem with them or their workers. The addition came out great ,it match my existing home perfectly.

The project was scheduled to last 6-8 weeks. It lasted from Oct. 23 to December 7 - right on schedule. We completely moved out of the master bedroom (including closets that are in the bathroom) to another part of the house for the duration of the project. A door to the outside from the master allowed the workers to use the room for a staging area and be completely sealed off from the rest of the house. This really helped as it kept the mess contained to one area.
The two main Cross employees were the area supervisor, Ross, and project lead, Kurt . Kurt ran the project daily and was here every day either by himself or with several other Cross associates or contractors. Having the continuity of the daily presence of Kurt was a big deal, particularly after talking to other folks that had contractors disappear for a week or two during their project. Kurt - and everyone- answered any questions we had. Any minor - or major - thing that we mentioned was attended to quickly. If we didn't like a piece of tile, they would take it out and put another one in! They were meticulous about every aspect of the work.
The completed project is nothing short of spectacular. Cross and their subs did an eceptional job in all aspects of the project. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Martha, who answers the phone in the office, came by to check out the project and she said, and quot;It looks like something out of a magazine!and quot; and she is right!

Melissa was very hands on as well. She also helped by finding me a fan for the kitchen work area and the granite for our island countertops. Martha and Melissa also found a piece of granite to go above our stove that looks amazing.

It's just been a pleasure to work with them. Craig and his team didn't assume anything and always asked. Everything is so transparent, he is up front, and there are not hidden agendas. He estimated the project would take about 10 weeks, but it took about 12 because it is an older home.He doesn't use subcontractors and he is very attentive to the work that his employees are doing. They are just really nice people. They clean up after themselves every single day and their tools are organized. You can walk through and see exactly what has been done. He is a little bit more expensive, but it is worth it especially since his employees work for him. Craig is also very considerate of his employees because he arranged to have them work 4 days a week for 10 hours each day instead of having to drive out every single day since we live a little further away.

The project supervisor, Mark, is just the finest person and he does phenomenal work. For example, they tore out 2 walls and he did the framing. He was so careful and every single thing needed to be just right. If they say they are going to do something, they do it. When they were here they were efficient. It seemed as though Mark was a big piece of keeping everyone busy and working. Mark came 7:00am every single morning, followed by the other employees shortly after.

Wow. Met with Craig in October 2011, he was one of 3 bids I received. Felt most comfortable with him, and work started November 1st. Originally expected to be about 3 months, project took 4, but the extra time was worth it. Once walls were down, there was some extra work that was recommended, and they were spot on.

Ray was our foreman, and he was worth every penny. Our house was built in the 1920's and subsequent work that had been done was substandard. Any time there was a situation that had to be addressed, Ray would explain the problem, and have a couple of solutions to pick from. Bob, Buck, and the other guys were fabulous. Even though we moved out for the 4 months, due to the scope of the project, the house was left clean every night, and the garage was organized.

Went over budget, my fault. Added a few things here and there during construction.

We are so incredibly happy with our new house, I am calling Craig on Monday to do some additional work. Will use them again, and recommend them to everyone. The remodel could have been a complete nightmare, but Ray and Cross Construction made it easy. Too easy. On to the upstairs.....

I began the journey toward having some updates done in my home in March, 2011. Of the 4 contractors I interviewed and received estimates from, 3 were just going to put in new cabinets and countertop in my existing kitchen. However, when I met with Craig Scott from Cross Construction, he saw potential for changes that would provide a more functional kitchen and asked if I had ever considered using a kitchen designer (the configuration of my kitchen was less than adequate and/or functional); my response was and quot;no, but was wililng to look into itand quot;; he referred me to Ilse Scarborough of Smart Interiors -- which turned out to be the best advice he could have provided. In May 2011 plans were provided to Craig to base construction costs on his proposal. The contract was signed on June 21st, and work on the project commenced on July 25th; the project was completed on October 13, 2011.

I could not have asked for better workers in my home for this 3 month project. They were most pleasant, hard workers, always punctual, took great pride (rightfully so) in their work, kept the jobsite clean, were respectful of me, my dog, my home. I was totally comfortable leaving my home to run errands or go to appointments while the workers continued on the project. At the end of every day my home was left clean and orderly. Tools and equipment were carefully gathered and stored out of the way, and the floors were swept and/or vacuumed at the end of the workday.

I also want to include a comment about Mike who oversaw the project, worked on all aspects of the project, and did the finishing / trim carpentry work. His work ethic, professionalism, pleasant demeanor, and outstanding final product were absolutely AWESOME.

I am extremely pleased with Cross Construction, Craig Scott, and all of his workers, the orderly progress, and how the project finally turned out. The changes resulting from this renbovation not only look great but function exceptionally well.

I will use Cross Construction again for additional upgrades in my home.

We handed the architectural plans over to Craig Scott at Cross Construction and they took it from there. They handled the whole project from start to finish and did a great job. One thing we liked about Cross Construction is that many of their workers are their own employees (as opposed to third-party contractors). Ray, our job superintendent, was here almost every day and kept an eye on every step of the project. He was always prompt and responsive to our needs or concerns. There were a few glitches along the way (as there always will be with a job like this), but no matter what happened, they were quick to respond and make it right. Melissa, the lady who runs their office, is very prompt, organized, and helpful. They were just a delight to work with!

Site visits, research, and quote - Mr. Scott was punctual, thorough, honest, and very professional throughout every aspect of the preparation for the project. He listened well, attended to our questions and desires, and produced a very detailed and itemized breakdown of every phase of the project. He identified costs and their explainations (including allowances for material cost differences and a clear profit and overhead figure as a fixed percentage and not a nebulous number,) produced wholesaler sites for the specific material items we would have to pick out (plumbing fixtures, tile, etc...) and gave an estimated (acurate) timeframe for the whole project. There was to be some additional cost for travel expenses incurred by the company, which I understand. He was able to produce an extensive list of references. I viewed some work that had been done by the company and spoke with several previous customers, including a couple who lived in a home undergoing a whole-house remodel. The workmanship and pride was more than aparant and there were no negative words uttered. In fact, every customer I spoke with would hire them for any and all future work. What I found amazing about the time before the remodel began was the detective work and the extreme desire to produce an outcome we would be most pleased with shown by Mr. Scott. My wife (the designer for the project) produced a magazine article which had a picture of a kitchen with a tile style she was interested in. The advertising was for something completely different than tile and we had no idea who the manufacturer or what the name of the tile was. Mr. Scott not only was able to identify the tile, but considering the $120 / square price tag, he found a few other options more favorable to our budget, and identified a site and salesman (Adrian, dl Tile) to physically view the tiles. Wow! After agreeing on materials and a start date, a contract was signed and a deposit paid. Day 1 - demolition - Mr. Scott or someone from the crew called daily to give a 10 minute arrival warning (requested so we could restrain our dogs and open the property gate.) Mr. Scott arrived with the crew, introduced them individually (Sean and Art,) identified the on-site supervisor (Sean) for the project from start-to-finish, and began describing what he wanted the crew to pay particular attention to and how he wanted things to be handled. The crew set to work by first laying drop cloths and hanging plastic sheeting to prevent dust in the rest of the house (the floor plan is very open). The demolition was done very well, causing no damage to the existing cabinetry to which the existing tile counters were thinset and screwed into. Some areas of the sheetrock were damaged, which was expected, while the tiles were removed. When the demolition was complete, the drop cloths were removed and cleaned outside, the cabinets and floor were vacuumed, and the plastic sheeting was taken down. Breaks and socializing by the work crew was minimal. There was very little dust anywhere in the house, including the worksite. Nice. Day 2 - sheetrock and counters - Sean arrived, replaced the dropcloths, and began patching the sheetrock on the walls and double checking the cabinet base for the granite. The granite company (Joe and ?, Alamo Tile and Stone) arrived and immediately set to work placing the countertops. The holes for the sink fixtures and stovetop were cut on site. After counter placement, they caulked and sealed and gave instructions as to the care. Sean completed the work on the sheetrock and prepped for tile. Again, the worksite was cleaned at the end of the day. Days 3 and 4 - tile backsplash - The tile backsplash was installed primarily by Marc while Sean did most of the custom cuts. Several long and thin areas needed to be tiled by hand placement of individual tiles and required nearly every piece to be hand cut due to the size of the space. The plumber (Charlie, Corley-Bailey Plumbing Co.) also arrived to install the sink and fixtures, caulk them, and reinstall the gas cooktop and was finished in a few hours. All work was very well done. Marc and Sean continued working on the backsplash while the plumber was working. After grout and wash, the backsplash was finished on the 4th day. Discussion over adding a corbel (carved wood support for under the bar pass-through) and a decision to do so occured on day 3 and by day 4, a nearly exact replica of the existing 10 year old corbels was procured to be installed on day 5. The worksite was cleaned at the end of the each day. Day 5 and 6 - tile and counter cleanup and touchup paint - Marc and Sean completed the final wash and cleanup of the tile and granite, which was a quick wrap-up project and the tile was sealed on day 6. The corbel was primed and installed, then painted to match. The painter (Bennie) then begin caulking cracks where the cabinets had settled away from the walls or other cabinets and begain touching up areas of the cabinets where paint had worn thin or been scraped off. The paint was an oil base and required a faux wash to match, which Bennie did perfectly. Bennie was very attentive to fine detail and was not averse to my direction if there were other areas I wished to be addressed by simply placing a post-it on the area with an arrow or brief description of the concern. The leftover paint was left for us for additional touchup. A weekend fell between work days 5 and 6, and Sean was nice enough to offer to leave the drop cloths since he had heard we were planning on painting the walls that weekend. Awesome. Mr. Scott worked the latter half of the last day and made a quick adjustment of some cabinet trim which affected the dishwasher placement to eliminate a drawer hitting the dishwasher handle (a chronic problem we've had, now fixed.) After work was completed, the entire site was thoroughly cleaned. After a final walk-through with Mr. Craig, review of the outstanding balance occured at the end of the last work day. Based on the initial estimate and allowances and the actual material costs, we actually came in just shy of $4,000 UNDER budget. This money was identified on the invoice and credited to the total amount! How many contractors would do that for you? Not many. In closing, from the foundation up, Cross Construction, Co. can do it all. Initially I was considering a "B" grade for cost, since they were around 10% above other reputable contrators, but the expense is well worth it. I would hire Cross Construction without any hesitation for ANY work you may need in and around your home or business. The experience was great and we LOVE our new kitchen!!!

We had just moved to San Antonio and our house had a mix match of old carpet, wood and tile floors, a cramped master bath with a non-functioning whirlpool tub and leaky 1950's aluminum windows. Craig Scott told us the whole project would take six to eight weeks from start to finish and no work would be done on Fridays(nice because we would be living in the house and three consecutive days of privacy was welcome). The Cross crew started the first of April and were done by the last week of May, during that time they were at the house no later than seven every morning and at three in the afternoon cleaned up the work area and left. A crew boss was there at all times and the last to leave even when other contracted workers were there. They were very polite and considerate, keeping us informed of any unexpected problems. We couldn't be more pleased with the results, the new walk-in rimless shower is beautiful and the water runs towards the drain perfectly. No surprises with costs as Craig was very upfront with charges. There may be less expensive contractors but we really got what we paid for, a beautiful remodel with no headaches. When we're ready for a total kitchen redo it will again be Craig and his people.
