My experience with College Hunks was terrible. In short, they quoted me after providing them with my inventory $380 to move my 2-bedroom apartment into a storage unit. After it was all said and done, the move cost me over $800 and took twice as long as they said. I had also received a quote from All My Sons Moving that was about $100 more than College Hunks. When I told All My Sons Moving that I was going with someone else, they warned me that a moving company would undercut me with their quote to gain my business and would end up charging me double. They were right. I personally will be using All My Sons Moving next time, and I would not recommend College Hunks due to their lack of professionalism and fairness. Below is the longer story if you care to read. Like I said, I was quoted $380 to move my 2-bedroom apartment (no couch, no appliances, and had already moved 2 of the 3 dressers) to a storage unit less than 5 miles away. Everything had been boxed up. My apartment was on the 1st floor and the storage unit was on the 2nd floor – which was told to College Hunks prior to their quote. I understand the storage unit was further from the elevator than the movers expected, and there were a few more boxes (maybe 5-10) than I had given in my inventory, but everything else was as expected. The movers informed me it should not take any longer than the quoted time after seeing my apartment. The movers were nice and showed up on time. I understand the quote is just an estimate, and I was more than happy to pay more within reason. I bought the movers lunch, tipped them $80 in cash, and treated them fairly, despite it taking twice as long as expected. The next day, I went to the storage unit and noticed glass outside of the unit, and I found a lamp to have been broken. The movers also tore 2-vacuum sealed bags holding pillows and sheets. I know that is small, but there was absolutely no effort to replace or rectify their error. All broken items were broken by the movers, and I was not informed of any of these incidents. I called the number on the website, which directed me to the College Hunks corporate offices, and I explained what happened. The member at the corporate office apologized and informed me that the San Antonio office is a franchise, and the corporate office is not able to refund me anything. They said the franchise manager has the power and ability to reimburse as much as he deems necessary, and they forwarded my complaint to him. After telling the San Antonio franchise manager everything that happened, and going back and forth on multiple phone calls, the most they said they could do is reimburse me the $80 tip, $2.64 for the broken lamp, and $25 extra. All I explicitly requested back was $200 for the lamp and the $80 tip, and they were not willing to do that. The lamp is no longer sold at the store I bought it, so it cannot be replaced. Their insurance policy is $0.60 per pound, which is a total scam. Not sure if that’s market for moving companies, but it is absurd regardless.
