Im going to start this review out by pointing out that every now in life you meet people who are honest and caring individuals. This describes Carl Blum. Three years ago we decided to repaint our house. The house was built in 2006 and the paint was coming off in 2011. I began researching paint and learned that the builders use PPG paint that is essentially $15 a gallon. If one researches top quality paint (Sherwin Williams Durations), he will immediately notice that the good paint is $55 a gallon. Not only that, most builders don't prime and simply spray the cheap paint on. I noticed my neighbors having their house painted and the company was only using rollers and brushes! When it was time for our house to be painted, I found out the name of the company that did such a good job was Blum Painting and Wall Covering.
I contacted Carl and set up an appointment with him to look at the house. After the bid was placed, him and his crew started on the project approximately a week later. Now, one needs to understand that priming, double coating, using the best paint, and sanding the deck by hand is going to be more expensive than simply having someone spray the house. With that said, the price will be higher than some of the other contractors around town, but the paint will continue to look beautiful for many many years. The crew started by power washing the house and the gutters. They used a phosphate based cleaner on the gutters so that the paint would adhere properly. Carl also replaced some would around my fire place that had not been primed and painted properly by the builder. Carl called me and said that he was going to use cedar so that it would hold up better outside. When they got to the deck, he flipped some boards around and made slight repairs before hand sanding (yes hand sanding) the surface! The house and deck came out looking amazing. Three years later the house still looks like it was just painted!. The deck has taken some heat; however, in the past I have had to restain every year. Carl's work and the solid stain have lasted three years.
A few weeks ago Carl contacted me out of the blue. I had recommended his company to a coworker (who had Carl paint her house and that of her parents). She was blown away by the quality of the job. Carl called me to thank me for my recommendation. He also said he wanted to know if any parts of the housed needed to be touched up.
I can honestly say that Blum Painting and Wall Covering is the best contracting company that I have ever dealt with. The work is top notch and the people are amazing. The owner, Carl Blum, is very detailed and meticulous .... we purchased an old home that needed a lot of work .... Carl made lots of good recommendations on colors, paint type etc. .... he also did lots of extras around the house without our asking like adjusting the cabinet hinges, balancing the fan blades .... he's probably not the cheapest painter you can find, however he only applies paint by brush or roller ... he does not spray-on paint which doesn't give you as good a coating ....
