We hired BBG General Contracting to put in a french drain and add gutters and downspouts at our front porch to solve a drainage problem as well as re-opening old doorway to another building, tearing down a false wall, and creating a closet complete the drywall and tile as well as assorted other repairs. The work began back in July 2018. As of October 2018, not a single item has been completed. The contractor has received partial payment and is now not showing up and not responding to texts or phone calls. 1. Doorway/Hallway remodel. A. Taping and floating has not been completed. B. Electrical work has not been completed. C. A roof leak was discovered when they opened up the false wall. The contractor said he was a roofer and would take care of it. He has made two attempts to fix the leak finally resulting in a bigger leak. He has promised to show up with a roofer to see what is wrong but he never brings the roofer. More drywall must be replaced as a result of the bigger leak. D. Tile work remains undone. Some tile laid but never grouted. Some tile laid but was not installed level. Contactor was notified. He said he would correct the mistake but he has not repaired the shoddy work. E. Said we needed to special order a door for the doorway that was reopened. It was supposedly ordered back in July but has never been installed so we have two separate heating and cooling systems fighting each other over temperature differences. F. Closet door for the new closet still leaning against the wall instead of mounted in the new closet doorframe. G. Tools, supplies, dust, and dirt all over the house. They have not cleaned any of their mess. H. Piles of debris from the indoor remodel work sit in a pile on our driveway, front porch, and yard. 2. French drain was added because water would flow toward the front door in a downpour. There are several issues with the contractor’s work. A. When they constructed the drain, they built up a cement “ramp” that the water must climb out of the existing ditch in order to spill into the new drain. That “ramp” diverts water toward the front door instead of into the drain as intended. B. Water stands in the drain days after any rainfall because they did not maintain the downhill grade of the drain. It is a mosquito breeding ground C. The end of the drain dumps out at the foundation of the building instead of farther away as promised D. Piles of rock and dirt from the excavation for the French drain, 13 bags of ruined cement, a pile of unused cement that they dumped in the yard while constructing the drain, debris from clearing the way for the drain work all sit untouched. We spoke to the contractor and he promised to remove it but drove away without cleaning up anything. E. Grates were to be provided to cover the top of the French Drain system but, so far, it is an open ditch that we must step over to go into the house. F. Gutters and downspouts where also to be install to help divert water away from the front door but no work has been done at this time to complete that. G. Opening in front porch roof was supposed to be closed and the roof shingled but was never started. H. Photos were provided to the contractor to show the drainage problems with the new French drain during a heavy rain this past weekend. He has not responded.
