Additional contact: Patrick Brewer. Bartlett Tree Experts has been providing scientific tree care since 1907. A 3rd generation, family owned business, our mission is the maintenance and care of the health and beauty of trees and shrubs. We are an international organization, with offices in Canada, England and Ireland. Our Research Laboratories advises us about the latest technological advances in arboriculture and assists our arborists with training updates. The laboratory networks with professionals at universities, government agencies, and allied industry groups. This enables us to provide state-of-the art procedures and techniques to our clients. Our arborists consult with other professionals for common projects and community interests. Our unique position in the green industry helps us further arboriculture as a science and a profession. We believe in providing preventive property maintenance to avoid landscape problems or treat them proactively rather than using “reactive” maintenance methods that are driven by situations and events. They have done it twice for us. It was a lot, because we were behind, and hadn't done it in a number of years. We had a follow-up with the fertilization in the last year. They were organized, punctual, and very knowledgeable.

Crew did an excellent job, arriving on time and reviewing required work with me prior to starting. Spent almost the whole day working up in the trees, carefully roping limbs prior to cutting so they could be lowered to the ground, avoiding extraneous damage. Supervisor Jacob West who had originally inspected the yard and wrote up the work proposal came by during the day to review progress, and suggested several additional items such as removing extraneous small trees to open up the yard and better feature desirable trees and vegetation. This work was done without additional charge. Crew requested I inspect the work, and gladly made such adjustments as I requested. They did an excellent job cleaning up afterwards, removing all debris. The work really transformed the yard. We had noticed dead branches prior to the work, but we hadn't realized how beautiful the trees could become.

Their bids were higher than others but I thought they were the most competent after interviewing other companies. Our trees were so large and overgrown that we had very little sun coming into the yard or house. They are shaped beautifully now and it looks very natural, not like it was shaped. They took care to paint over every cut in order to protect the tree from getting the devastating Live Oak Wilt disease. They were all very professional and friendly and they cleaned up so well that you would have never known they were there.

I was referred to Bartlett's by my insurance company. A representative came out to evaluate the trees and urged me to sign some documents promising that I would be responsible for the cost of the removal. I was hesitant because the price quoted was quite a bit more than my insurance company had said it would be. Their agent was adamant that I would not be put in queue for the removal crew without my signature on the documents. Since one of the trees was leaning quite dangerously and we were due more rain, I signed. Later I was able to confirm with my insurance company that they would cover the cost and I would only be responsible for my deductible which is $1000.
The crew showed up the next day and worked very quickly and diligently removing both trees and their debris in about 6 hours. One of the trees was cut down to less than five inches. The other, which is on my fenceline was cut with approximately 18 inches of stump remaining. I asked the crew about it and they said their chainsaw couldn't cut it. I asked the crew leader if I could pay with a credit card or if I should write them a check. He told me that I needed to pay the company, not him. I called later and asked the representative with whom I'd booked the service about cutting the large stump lower and he also claimed it couldn't be done but that for an additional $510, they could grind the stump down. I explained that I'd just like the one tree cut down as low as the other one but he again claimed it could not be done.
While all this is going on, I get a message from the insurance company that they've issued a $2000 payment to Bartlett's. One week later, Bartlett's sent me a bill for the full amount, in excess of $3000. I don't know whether this is a clerical error or they're just greedy.

"I’m sorry that you are unhappy with the amount of work completed. We did prune the palms to our mutually agreed upon specifications and industry standards. I will be more than happy to remove the “boots” from the stem of the palm, but since it was not part of the original agreement it qualifies as additional work and, therefore, carries an additional cost. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

We were contacted promptly. An appointment was made to visit our home and look at the trees and they arrived on time. Within a couple of days they came back to my house and completed the job, cleaning up after they were through. The did a very professional job and the trees now look great. I am very satisfied with the job performed and I will recommend them to others needing a tree service.

They come and give me an estimate for all the work but some of the work has to be done certain times of the year. That’s what I pay for. I think they are a little bit on the high side on price but they do a good job. For the tree trimming, they do the trimming and do all the cleanup. I don’t have anything left around. I know that when they did the tree trimming here, they were here most of the day. The people were really nice. One of their manager or owner came out both times. When the crew is out here, he comes out and checks also. They are very punctual.

They sent crew out and all they did was trim the sucker trees coming from roots and sprayed some stuff on that area. Had to call email send pictures and still had a hard time getting them back out. Got a bill and had to deal with another office telling them work had not been performed correctly. The guy that finally did come did a great job and my tree is better. Need to get another section of the girding roots removed this winter but will not use Bartlett tree service again. Also after job was done I emailed John to get tress fertilized and never heard back from him. For me dealing with this company was a hassle.

All went well. Oak wilt is in trees, but too early to tell if they will survive the disease. Hopefully, we will know more this spring, once the leaves fall and new growth returns.

Fertilization went as expected. Over the years I have used Barlette, my several mature trees have looked good and grown. And have shown no signs of stress during our drought.
They located one tree that the landscaper had put too much dirt around the tree base so it had the potential to rot. They removed the dirt. They notify me if they spot anything wrong with my trees. They perform the tasks asked for the stated price
