Good. It was recommended that the condenser coils be cleaned as they were visibly dirty. Joshua and I reviewed past maintenance service records and I opted to have the work done to insure better service during the Summer. After receiving quotes for replacement UV light or fixture, I chose to wait with that service at this time. Joshua was very cooperative and respectful, with no pressure about performing work.

They were very professional in their analysis and recommendations for my 15 year old air conditioner and provided excellent financing to accommodate my circumstances.  The workmen were extraordinarily polite and offered explanations for all duties that they carried out.  They were able to complete the task within 24 hours and left me, my wife and our 2-month old infant with a cool restful environment.

My old system was nearly 20 years old and maintained for a portion of that time by Alexander Services.  But the decision was made, after a recent service call, that we needed to update in order to reduce our electric bills and provide better (consistent) cooling in the summer months.
The entire process was seamless.  The technicians arrived and provided me with several options for a new system. Each option was explained in detail and I feel that I was then able to make an informed decision.  There were several options presented that fit my needs and budget.  There wasn't any pressure to make a quick decision.  It was just informed decision making.  I did get two other companies to provide me with their cost estimates.  One never returned my calls, and the other was about 15% more expensive, and they wouldn't install on Saturday.  I needed the new system installed on Saturday, because I just had a new litter of kittens, and the heat was no place for them.
The overall project took a shorter period and the entire installation crew was very professional.
Once the system was installed, they took the time to inform me of how to properly operate and maintain the unit.  I chose to have Alexander Services provide a quarterly inspection to include changing the air filters.  You see, I have allergies, and I find that a clean filter helps with my allergies and my pets too.  They really did a great job.
I'm not that good at customer reviews, but I hope that I can offer someone the satisfaction in knowing that I was most satisfied with their high level of professionalism, care for my immediate needs, and my ongoing service needs.  Means a lot these days.  I don't know much about the intricacies of the A/C system, but then, with Alexander Services as my service provider, I'm able to rest easy by knowing they are always watching out for me.
The thermostat is set at 74 today, and I'm happy.  It's 100 outside!!  I had to call my electric company to be certain the bill was right, nearly 30% lower than last year this time, I guess the unit really is a lot more efficient, but 30%!!   Wow!  That savings went right in my pocket.
My what a list of happy customers they must have!!  I told them to add me to it.  This is a really small market, and you must earn and maintain a great reputation in order to be "the best".  They really are the best, and that's why we chose them.

Alexander Services came out to unclog my condensate line. They failed
to correct the issue the first time, so they came back again a few days
later. On both occasions, I explicitly stated that I wanted them to make
sure the fittings were sealed properly. Weeks later, my ceiling starts
leaking. My drywall in my bedroom and bathroom is soaked and damaged. I
call a plumber to check it out. Apparently, the leak came from the
condensate line-- it was not sealed properly. I call Alexander Services
and tell them what happened. They tell me they'll have to check for
themselves. Leo, the owner, comes out and basically says it's not their
fault. The joint is leaking, the pipe was sealed with their tape and yet
he claims they never touched it. Why tape the pipe up if you didn't
touch it? In a nutshell, they are not standing by their work. They
couldn't get it right the first time and it looks like they couldn't do
it the second time either. I gave them the opportunity to make things
right but I guess doing the right thing is not important to them.

"Dear member im sorry that you have water damage to your ceiling. when we were called to help you your drain line was clogged. We did unclogg it . i no owning a new home is expensive its a lot of responsibility and things can go wrong.you paid us to unclogg the drain and inspect your up stairs system. the systems are 10 to 15 years old and so are the drain lines that were installed when the house was built. 2 months ago when we were at your house there was no sign or indication that there was any leaking at the joints that were in the wall that are now leaking. other wise there would have already been water damage . Furthermore there is no way to know when a glued joint like that is going to go bad or check it. It was not doing that 2 months ago. We can install new drain lines. We were not hired or paid to install for you a new drain line. And as i recall before when we were at your home we made severel reccommendations and declined our reccommendations cause you wanted to do it your self. You have 2 drain lines from 2 ac systems going into one single drain. You were en ragged mr member and you wouldnt listen to the facts or look at them. Im sorry this happend to you. You had already decided it is our fault before we came back to try to help you yesturday."

Noticed at 7 am the house seemed warm. Called at 8am, got an immediate answer and someone was out to the house by 8:30. After looking at the inside and outside unit, I was told that the unit just needed freon for now and that it was an aging unit. It would eventually need to be replaced. They said Unit would be fine with adding Freon for know. They were courteous, respectful during the visit and with the rest of the family while they did their work inside the house. They were here total about 1 and 1/2 hours and were respectful of my time because I did need to get back to work. I was told about Alexander Sevices by a friend about 5 years ago. I have used them several times in that period. They have always been quick to respond even iI have had to leave a message. ( I appreciate the a happy and Cheerful greeting by the owner on the message machine if you have to leave a message!) they have always been quick to come out and worked with my schedule. They are proffesional, courteous and friendly. I would definitely recommend their services!!

We had the opportunity to share our experience with Alexander Services AC and Heat with a veteran air conditioning professional ? and now feel that we were sized up as senior citizens and taken to the cleaners in a scam. We always considered ourselves to be too savvy to be fooled in such a severe manner, the total cost $1,871, but perhaps that confidence made us all the more vulnerable.
Based on reviews from Angie?s list we called this company when our AC failed to cool properly.  After inspection, Mike showed us two sets of numbers as estimates. The lower estimate plugged us in for routine ?preferred prices? maintenance. When we questioned the costliness of the repair, he pointed out that we would be receiving ?preferred prices? which would get us the very best prices available. When we mentioned that perhaps we should explore other options (e.g. new unit, other repair services) Mike restated that we were getting the best repair prices available ? and that replacing the unit would cost over $10,000 ? that AC replacements had become very expensive recently and the price of freon had increased dramatically for older units. We were reminded of their good reviews on Angie?s list. Being a complete novice about AC, I was impressed with his claims of a tremendous success rate with the ?Stop Leak? product that he recommended for $200. But Mike did not say anything about how some professionals consider this product and the dye he injected to be potentially harmful to the AC.
Considering our home was very warm now, and filled with friends watching a Spurs game, our only reasonable option seemed to be to buy the freon and other ?needed? services from Mike immediately. However once the work was completed, we were told that our AC was dry ? that it took ten pounds of freon to fill it. But Mike said he only charged for eight pounds ? made me wonder if he put in six pounds ? or maybe none at all. We paid $998 for freon alone but have since learned that two other companies we checked charge $60 per pound ? even for the older, more expensive freon.
As Mike left we were told that we would get even greater discounts if we would give him a positive rating on Angie?s List ? the more positive the rating the greater the discount. Extra discounts would also be available if we requested him by-name for future repairs. His comments after the freon and repair left me confused ? as Stop Leak supposedly always worked in these situations ? what future repairs could he be talking about? In a return visit the next week, Mike told us that freon was leaking from the AC due to rust in the coils. He gave an estimate of $4,600 to replace the leaking coils and had to be emphatically told ?no? before he believed that the combined $6,471 for just repairs ? and not a new system  - was never going to happen.
At the start of repairs that first night, I was all but guaranteed success. Leaving, Mike told me how to use Angie?s List ? and by-name requests ? to get discounts on future repairs ? that were supposedly unnecessary due to the $1,871 bill that I had just signed. A week later when Mike gave me further repair estimates of $4,600 to replace the coils ? too late realized that I had been duped.
But the most disturbing development was later, when the company that did the original installation reviewed the AC and did not find a leak. Two measurements since Mike?s initial visit detected zero freon leakage. The second installation/repair service owner told me that the ?contactor relay? replaced at a cost of $280 was LIKELY the only problem. Now, nearly a month later freon is not leaking and our AC works just fine. At least we did not pay the additional $4,600 for the recommended ? yet by all indications - completely unneeded additional repair work.
We turned down a settlement of $500 to share our experience with you. We feel convicted that we need to act to protect others ? this is more a matter of principle than it is of money.

"Id like to take resond to [member name removed]. Everything we do as far as work and pricing is all put before the customer prior to any work being performed. We do have discounted pricing for our service agreement customers which we offer to everyone. There is no scam. Folks in San Antonio, remember it was thursday june 6, 2013 the san antonio spurs kicked off the first game of the NBA Finals against the miami heat. This night we were called out to the [member name removed] home. They were having guest over to watch the game. Please can you come out to my home it s 7pm and our AC is not working. So the technician performed an inspection, and made an analysis, and gave his recommendations . The biggest problem was his system was low on refrigerant , very low. We recommended to have a dye leak search performed . so we needed to fill the system with refrigerant and add a packet of dye into the system so we could come back at a later time and find the leak. As well as get the home cooling in the mean time. Which is what they wanted. So [member name removed]agrees to go ahead with the logical next step. Have us go ahead and add refrigerant and dye for the leak search as well as replacing part on the out side unit. (Bye the way there is no side affects or harmful impact on an air conditioner by useing dye or additives.) So we are schedualed to come back out on the following wednsday to find were the leak is. So we find out it is the Evaporator coil. Its leaking in multiple places and the solution we recommend is to replace the evaporator coil. If they dont want to keep refilling it up with R-22. The technician wanted to find out if the coil still had a manufactures warranty so he called the local supply dealer and they let us know it was not. The technician informed [member name removed] what he had done and according to the technician that he had no business checking on the warranty statis of the unit. [member name removed] is upset at this time or appears that way according to the technicain. I dont blame people for being upset when they have expensive cost to deal with that they werent expecting. Then we are informed that the Company who installed there systems 6 years ago, sold the [member name removed] a ten year parts and labor warranty through the manufacture. [member name removed]r told me she forgot that she had purchased the 10 year warranty until days later she was looking through her paper work. By the way we did our home work and found out that the company who sold them the warranty did not submitt the paper work that they are required to. This is when they start complaining and wanting their money back. [member name removed] let me know he was a Colonel in the military so to let me know he wasnt going to budge an inch and that he was gong to dictate to me what was going to happen. That we fooled him . Nonsense . I tried to be reasonable with him and show some consideration. I just want you all to know I personally went out to the [member name removed] home. I spoke with them and i also went up into the attic taking [member name removed] with me to perform my own leak search . I opened up the Evap Coil right in front of his eyes . There was dye in multiple places in the coil . i then used an electronic leak detector to see if it would detect freon leaking out . Yes the light went off there is no doubt it was leaking and i showed the customer again. again and again it repeated the proces"

I had an air conditioning and heating system that was original to my home that was built in 1983.  While it was still working it was in need of repair.  I received several bids and none of them seemed what I was looking for and all were for systems that according to Consumers Report were not within the top three recommended.  I asked Leo to look at my system and he gave me a bid that was lower than the others and was for a system that was listed number 2 in Consumers Reports.  Both number one and two are made by the same manufacture.  He gave me a discount and once I agreed on the date to have the work done it was done in one day.  Troy the installer was just excellent and gave me several helpful tips on care and maintenance of the new system. They had to remove the door jam to get the new unit in and Leo had a service come out and replace it.  I was very happy with the unit, the price and the installation.  Leo then gave me information on any extended service plans available and with no pressure to select one.  I would highly recommend Alexander Services and will use them again for any of my air conditioning and heating needs.

Leo from Alexander Services A/C & Heat came out to the house to do a checkup prior to us selling our house.  He came up with a whole list of items.
1.  $110 service agreement that is supposed to give some sort of discount.  What I think it is a sales tool to get us to think we are getting a better deal.
2.  Replacing the breaker box because it was originally wired wrong.  for $450
3.  Seal a duct opening for $43.47.  I'm not sure what he did here.  We sold our house 1 week later and the inspector found a duct opening that needed sealing within easy sight of the ladder.   So I don't know I paid for something else to be sealed or not.  But they certainly didn't look very hard for other openings if they did.  Based upon everything else, my gut tells me that I paid $43.47 for nothing.
4.  Condenser coil cleaning $153.36  (seems over priced to me)
5.  Tubing installation $54.51  (Not sure what this is.)
One of the things I mentioned while I was receiving the quote was a way to unclog the primary drain line just because my agent had mentioned it.  Leo said it wasn't necessary.  I said that if we received any issue on the inspection report, that I might ask for his support since I was spending $920 on getting everything fixed and Leo said no problem.
We got the inspection report.  And it had several things.  But the buyer only requested
1.  Having a t installed in the drainage line to allow bleach to be added to clean it.
2.  Insulating the drainage line
3.  Fixing the duct opening.
I sent these items to Leo along with the inspection report.  He took a couple days and I'm not sure if he came out or not.  But he called to discuss the items and tried to upsell me to installing a new system including ducting.  When I explained clearly that I only wanted to fix the three things, he said that he would get back to me in a few days with a quote.  After all that had occurred, I went ahead and fixed the items myself thinking that I couldn't afford these prices.
Leo called back today and began to give he his quote.  The first item was $199 for adding the t-fitting into the drainage line.  Once I got the parts for less than $10.00 including glue, this took me less than 5 minutes to fix.   I couldn't take anymore so I explained that I did the work myself because I couldn't afford his prices and to have a good day.
If you use these guys, please be prepared for the up sell and don't by the service agreement.   Didn't seem to do anything for me.
Chris

Response from Alexander Services A/C & Heat

"Thank you for sharing your feelings about our Services (member name removed). I agree it is expensive to own and maintain a home, you have pumbing and heating and air conditioning, electrical, and many other things to take care and maintain. Its expensive to run a Service company. We have all these Vehicles stocked with many parts, they burn so much gas, we have to have auto insurance, and liability insurance to protect our customers from accidents and property damage. Our cost keep going up year after year and we do everything we can to keep our costs down so we can keep our prices down for our customers. Yes its expensive. We have to adhere to strict codes and rules that dictate the proper ways of performing tasks. Not everyone in our field follow the legal codes, and their are many unlicensed individual who illegally perform out there. We know this because we often have to correct their improper work because many folks ( and i dont blame them) are looking to get things done cheap. The thing is its not cheap because it eventually has to be done right and then its really expensive to get it done correctly. It happens much too often. I know for a fact that when your Furnace and indoor air conditioner was installed,( and i know it wasnt your fault ) there was no permit pulled and there was no inspection performed by a third party ( the city of san antonio ) and im sorry to say it was obvious when we viewed it. As far as my recomendation to you, and remember i said that just between You and Me, was that if i were going to be the owner of this home i would be considering updating the duct work and the furnace and indoor air conditioner. Why? Because its going to need to be done in the a few years if not sooner. The duct work is coming apart. It leaks, that equals lost energy. Its very Expensive to air condition an attic. When the ducts starts falling apart in a couple of places its going to be falling apart in many more places. We only make recomendations that improve the longevity , increase the performance and efficiency of our customers Air Conditioning and Heating Systems. Wouldnt you agree that that saves you money? And that weather or not you purchase those things, you pay for it one way or another? There are several reasons we recommend Our Service Agreements. When our customers have us inspected there systems twice a year, the less likely they have major break downs. This saves You Money! Especially when they follow our initial recomendations. I would like to address your comments about the $449.64.What we did. a. replaced the electrical breaker to the proper size. b. replaced the electrical disconnect box, replaced the electrical wire and conduit to the out door air conditioner. I would have prefered that you were there at the time of our visit so i could have showed you before and after we performed the work. As i offered to show (name removed). This is something i do for every customer. We always present the price of the task we perform and get your permission before we start the work. Thank you (member name removed)"

My AC unit for the 1st floor froze up and stopped cooling.  I called Alexander's because I know others that have used them and have been very satisfied with their knowledge (ability to diagnose the problem and offer the right solution) , professionalism, punctuality, and reasonable price as well as  good scores on Angie's list.  My AC is just about ready to be replaced.  I am planning to replace next year so needed them to get it up and running again without a huge cost.  He, Mike, was able to do that in a short period of time.  My problem was a leak, it's an old system and keeps springing leaks, and freon replacement.  They were all of the above, knowleable, punctual, professional , and cost effective.  Thank you Mike, the temperature is back to normal!  Alexander's will be at the top of the list when I solicit bids for system replacement in 2013.
