Beyond expectations!!! My new bathroom is a work of art...truly!!!
We could not be happier everything went as promised. The crew,
the office staff, all very professional and were very efficient.
We will not hesitate to recommend.
We were told by the salesman that it would be 4 weeks to installation. We were not told the 4 weeks would be until shower installation only and that the glass would not be ordered until after that. In total our tub to shower conversion took 4 months!!!
It was 10 weeks before they started installation (NOT 4 weeks), 4 days until shower installation was completed, 3 more weeks until the glass was installed, and 2 more weeks before the final piece was installed and the job completed.
Half the total cost ($3,000+) was charged to our account 2 weeks after our order was placed -- 2 months before installation was started and 3 months before the shower was usable. The other half was charged 4 weeks before the shower was usable. They covered much of the room with plastic but the demolition still left a thick coat of dust all over the bathroom and adjoining bedroom, which they did not clean up. Customer service was terrible. We would call the office to try to find out when something was going to happen and be told that an owner would call us back. When no one called we would call again and be told the same thing. This happened several times.
Individually, the men who did the installations were professional and, finally, the shower is unable and looks great. The quote from the Shower Shop was much less than our quotes from other companies - all using Onyx materials. I guess you get what you pay for. Buyer beware.
"Hello [Member name removed] - We would like to apologize that your project took longer than anticipated. We are pleased that you are happy with the finished product...please call if you have any questions or concerns. BTW, we do offer "post-construction" cleaning as an optional item. Cleaning is offered separately because some clients prefer to save the cost and do it themselves, some clients would rather pay to have it cleaned. I will reiterate this being offered as an option to your Design Consultant. Thanks again for your business - Management @ TSS"

THis is the 4th time I have used The Shower Shop and continue to be very pleased with results. Previously completely remodeled master bathroom, kitchen, and built a new marble fireplace for me. Joey is easy to work with, knowledgeable, and creative. The office staff is just excellent! The work crew this time around was great - arrived on time, kept me informed, explained things when I needed to make decisions, were careful in attention to detail. Kept their work contained and cleaned up every single day. I knew who was coming each day - no day hires - so always feel safe with these folks. Shower Shop just rocks!

"Hello Mrs. [member name removed] - We appreciate your acknowledgement that we, Owners/Management were persistent and committed to getting you answers regarding the missing ring. You will be happy to know that we intended to follow through with the lie detector testing even after the ring appeared, but the crew leader resigned and has not been with the company since this occurred. We don't use sub-contractors for this reason. We require background checks and drug testing for all employees during the hiring process to do our best to prevent incidents such as this from occurring. If we can ever be of assistance please feel free to call. ~ Management @ TSS"

"Thanks you very much for the kind words, (removed member name). Please call when you're ready for that next project. ~ Management @ TSS"
Due to us having an electrician come in and move lights and switches around, there was extra dry wall work that needed to be done. That was completed and done well (extra charge was added at end due to the extra work)
The cabinets, new quartz counter, sinks, fixtures were installed, everything was done beautifully.
There was wallpaper on the walls, which was supposed to be removed. The crew stated it could not be removed so they were going to float the wall, plastering over the wallpaper. After painting the walls did not look good, blotchy etc.
I had a painter look at the walls at he stated the walls needed to be sealed before painting. I had them do that, and the walls look great now.

Charles' crew were terrific. Extremely professional and skilled. They were very thoughtful and careful when removing old items and carrying in new items. When the ice storm threw deliveries of the cabinets behind they worked on Friday and Saturday after Christmas to get back on schedule; they were scheduled for vacation those days. Tom the glass installer was equally nice and professional. I can not say enough good about the professionals at the Show Shop and would not hesitate to use them again.

This was a project that had to be done in a very tight timeframe. My parents were visiting for Christmas, and we decided that rather have them use the only bathroom on the first floor, the guest suite should have a private bathroom, and we needed to add a powder room. The catch was that we needed to have everything completed before their visit. Also we had not decided to do the project until late September. So that gave us exactly three months to find a contractor, come up with a design, pick out and order all the fixtures and get the work done.
Joey came over and quickly came up with a design. He is very knowledgeable and credible. It was his idea to swap the toilet and bathtub in the larger bathroom, and then he worked through many different ideas with us to make the project work. He was extremely flexible and allowed me to order all my own fixtures. We had several meetings with him, and he helped us select the quartz counter top, the shower pan and the glass doors, etc. We signed the contract and agreed on a start date.
The crew showed up the Monday after Thanksgiving, and worked a solid 3 weeks including Saturdays and completed the project. I have never seen anyone work harder. The guys were extremely courteous and polite, and cleaned up daily. They were very conscientious about placement of items, and consulted us very often throughout the project – which was great since we tend to be very hands on. They were done exactly in time as they had committed to. When we received the final invoice, everything was exactly as quoted, the only minor change order was for the unexpected plumbing work, that was required to repair a defect that pre-existed in the house.
The workmanship and quality is excellent. The powder room is very sophisticated, a true showcase, and the guest bathroom is very spa-like – so we are thrilled with the work. We plan to use Joey and his crew again for our future master bathroom remodel. I highly recommend the Shower Shop to anyone that wants to remodel their bathroom!

He recommended that we install a metal sink stating that the granite ones will start to fade/chip or even get gouged after a few years. Being an engineer, I know that he was explaining the material used in the sinks correctly (granite powder/resin mixture).
We went to a granite slab vendor and chose one. Chad had some useful recommendations based on some initial choices that we made.
The staff came the first day and proceeded nicely. The granite did not have the consistent edges including a (1.5.x.5x.5) crater among other smaller craters. It was then explained to us that quartz impurities do shatter when cutting and they are filled with a resin/granite mixture. The first attempt at this looked like chewing gum stuck underneath a desk. We let Chad know of our displeasure and the next day, we could not even figure out where the craters were. Also, the staff broke a glass edge of our cooktop stove. We asked for it to be fixed and the next day, they agreed to replace the glass or give the cost of the glass ($200) towards a new stovetop. Since our stove was in good shape and we didn't want to pay $1200 for a completely new cooktop, we just asked for the replacement top. The nice thing was that they did not try to dime and nickel us on this. The top came in, they popped out the old one and replaced it. They also did a nice job of installing the granite into the framing columns for one of the countertop, cutting into the posts and then filling it out. Most of our friends have two pieces of granite which are held together with glue. We really like the way this was done.
The backsplash was initially a disaster. The grout lines were all over the place, some tiles were jutting out, some were too recessed. The insets were covered with cement. This was exacerbated by the fact that we have at least 8 corners in the backsplash. Also travertine does have little nicks in it which looks awful when badly set. Chad had their best tile setter come in and redo the entire tile work. He also put a border around the backsplash tiles which smoothes it out (added $200 to the cost). It is truly gorgeous and the highlight of our house. Not to be obnoxious but we can easily notice the difference in the quality of our granite and backsplash compared to those of others. Everybody comments that this is the best granite work that they have seen. You get what you pay for.
The downside was that this took 3.5 weeks!!! and twice the staff were taken away to attend to some other tasks. When settling the bill, I raised it with the owners who immediately agreed to take $400 off the price for lost time for the inconvenience. (They were planning to not charge for the border).
To summarize, they didn't get everything right the first time but they really fixed everything up. I am very happy the work product and the fact that they did not hesitate to redo the work even though it was quite a loss to them to do so. That is a true indication of their dedication having a satisfied customer. I would hire Chad to oversee any installation project since he can immediately pinpoint what is wrong and suggest fixes.
Note: My wife did finally lose it after the 3rd week and gave Chad a piece of her mind. I am pretty sure that Chad would have still done the right thing regardless.
Checklist:
- Having fancy patterns in the granite is great but the quartz in the patterns has some risk of shattering and creating a crater. The craters are filled with resin. Having a good installer makes the difference between having a shiny surface and a wad of ugly brown resin filing the crater.
- Take pictures of your surface, cooktops, and floors before (place a newspaper on the floor to show the date) showing the date so that any damage claims can be justified. You probably don't need it with this crew but why take the chance?
- Put "time is of the essence" in the contract and a penalty for every week of delay after the completion date of the contract. It will certainly motivate the contractor to be on time.
- If possible, show the installer what you are looking for either with pictures or drawings so that you are on the same page.
- Try to avoid subcontractors; There is no way that a company hiring subcontractors would have agreed to redo the work.
