"Thank you [Member Name Removed]. It was a pleasure working with you and your wife. I hope you enjoy your floors for a long time to come. I look forward to working with you on future projects."
Steve was very professional. He came out to measure and provide a bid. They did not carry the laminate that I wanted (found at a competitor) but was able to get it for me. Their bid was approximately $4,000 less than the competition. They usually only install quarter round, but when I wanted baseboards that was not a problem.
We discussed them delivering the baseboards early so I could paint them prior to the installation, but this did not happen. It would have been easier to paint before they were installed.Â
The first day, the workers did not arrive until 11:30ish. It would have been nice to have been given a time frame for when to expect them. When they removed the old flooring, we expected there to be dust; however they used push brooms to clean the slab instead of a shop vac, and the entire house was enveloped in dust.Â
They worked until about 7:30-8:00 that evening.Â
The second day, they arrived early and stayed until about 8:00 when they completed the entire job. That's right. Everything was completed in two days instead of the estimated three or four. That was a good thing since we had so much dust to clean up.Â
When we asked them to reset one tile in the bathroom so it would flow with the others better, they complied.Â
The only complaint I had was that when they caulked the baseboards, there was so much dust in the house that the dust settled into the wet caulk. We will have to use some GooGone to remove the old grout then re-grout before we paint, otherwise, the baseboards will always look dirty.Â
All in all, I'm happy so far. They are a little slow on returning telephone calls. With a little more attention to doing clean work and being more prompt on getting back to someone, they would have received all A's from me.
Please learn from my mistake and stay as far away from this place as humanly possible. This was one of the most frustrating and dysfunctional experiences of my life due to the negligence and incompetence of Chris P. at Texas Flooring Company and the contractors that they employ. This project started in Apr2014 and is still not complete. I continue to try to resolve these issues with Texas Flooring Company but it appears they have no interest in completing the work that I have already paid for or backing up the 1 year installation warranty that is outlined in my contract (e.g.-they stopped responding to my emails in May2014).
In short, due to gross mis-management and the poor quality contractors currently working for Texas Flooring Company, I have invested over $15,000 in a flooring disaster, literally a nightmare come true. Issues include: visible gaps between planks of engineered wood flooring (several large enough to fit a credit card), uneven planks of engineered hardwood flooring where the unfinished sub-surface of the flooring is visible (this is getting worse every week as we use and clean the floor and the wax pencil and markers that were used by the installers to hide their mistakes are being wiped/worn away), visible glue on the surface of my wood flooring (over 2 months later...even after at least 50 hours of me desperately trying to remove the excess glue and 3 trips by Texas Flooring Company) , chips/hammer marks in the surface of my wood flooring from carelessness during installation, uneven/non-level tiles, multi-colored grout, mortar showing through the grout, chipping grout (with holes in grout that are getting worse every week), the tile contractor lost my house key and I had to pay $150 to have my locks re-keyed, very poor job of installing new baseboards (gaps, seams and nail holes still showing), glue, mortar and/or grout on virtually every wall of my house and on many door knobs, broken socket in the front of my house where the crew improperly removed the plug for one of their tools (I was wondering why the breaker was tripped and why they were messing with the circuit box...now I know), damage to the interior frame of my front door from removal of old flooring. Don't just take my word for it, please see the attached pictures of all of these issues.
- The wood flooring described above was improperly installed by Joe (or Joel) and he and his crew drive a white full-size van with a flood light on the roof. The tile was improperly installed by Miguel and he drives either a white 2500 Chevy pickup or a blue and silver Ford Ranger. All of the issues that are noted above are the result of these contractors not following industry standards and manufacturer installation instructions and the root cause of this negligence is that the flooring contractors who work for Chris P. at Texas Flooring Company know that he is not going to check their work, manage the quality of their work or hold them accountable when they rush through a job to make quick $$$ and ruin a $15,000 project. From what I saw and heard, it appears that Chris P. has never worked as a professional flooring installer and has no idea how things should be done according to industry standards and practices or manufacturer instructions; he has absolutely no idea what he is doing or what his contractors should be doing but he is quite skilled and hiding that during the sales process. I was even told more than once by Chris P. that a $15,000 project was hardly worth their time. I wish I had known that before I signed up with these folks and wasted so much of my hard earned money.
"I did miss his email in regard to some gaps in the wood. I have tried to contact [member name removed] and have not heard back from him but I will continue to try by phone and email. I have always taken care of any repair work and will continue to do so. I need to be able to look at the boards and determine how bad they are gapped. Wood expands and contracts and gapping is a characteristic of wood. With shining a light directly on it, it enhances the tongue sitting underneath. I will not know if a little bit of putty is all that's needed or if we need to replace a few boards. I have been to [member name removed]'s house on 2 occasions. First, to look over the floor and see how much glue was left on it and second, to return with my tile guy to fix a few air pockets in the grout and personally remove the glue from the surface of the wood. When I left, We agreed that I got most of it off. I did however tell him, I most likely missed something due to the amount of floors in his house. He said no problem. He was very happy when I finished, we shook hands and he said he would put a check in the mail to us. I have not received a check or a response other than the review."
