Rj's Construction & Remodeling
About us
R.J.'s Construction officially started shortly after April 1st, 2000, the day I got back from my honeymoon. I previously worked with 2 women who were interior designers that decided to dabble in the remodeling business. After a couple of years of remodeling, they decided that they would stick to interior design and would no longer require my services so when I got back from my honeymoon, they sat me down to breakfast to inform me that they were folding the remodeling portion of their business and that I was on my own. Being a newlywed, I knew that I had to do something and do it fast. I drove around town to houses that were for sale and wrote down the name and phone number that was on the listing in front of the house and called the realtor to ask them if there were any properties in which they needed quality, affordable repairs. After about a week of calling around to different realtors, I was introduced to a realtor by the name of Tim Kress who was extremely helpful in finding something for me to do. I didn't meet Tim personally until about 3 months after I started working with him and his team. He showed up on a job that I was doing for him and we talked for a short period of time and the rest they say is history. I have tried to keep my business small enough to keep it on a personal level. I do all my own work and I don't hire anything out. I have a helper most of the time, but you can be assured that I will be on the jobsite 99% of the time. My philosophy is if you are not going to give 100% to a project, then you should not even waste your time and energy on something that you are not going to be proud of when finished. I like to keep the customer involved in my day to day actions on their particular project. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them immediately or do my best to figure it out. There is nothing worse than you not knowing what is going on with YOUR project!! I hope you take the time to get to know me and my work ethics and choose my services to better your construction experience!! Faithfully serving Austin, Round Rock, and surrounding areas, Ralph Bucci

In December we had Ralph come back and repair part of a wall in our guest bath. I, had planned on painting that bath, myself, after he fixed the wall. Several days pasted and we had him give us an estimate to go ahead and paint the bath. The job was painstaking as we were changing colors drastically and were covering oil base paint with latex based paint. Ralph had to texture part of the ceiling and paint 2 coats on the walls and cabinets. He was in and completely out of the bath in 4 days.
Updating a room or total home remodel call him. You will be very pleased.
UPDATE!!!!!! UPDATE!!!!!!!
Although the tile work was beautiful, the rebuilt shower leaked within a couple of months. Ralph installed the shower without a water proof shower pan, causing a continual stream of water out of the bottom of the shower once the water worked its way through the sealed concrete (rip tile out, place water proof lining, re-tile, re-seal) (concrete is not waterproof!) He also installed a shower head without adequete support, causing the pipes to be stressed and eventually leak at the top of the wall (wall, carpet, plumbing, showerhead all replaced.) He also didn't verify that the custom frameless glass shower door was built to specifications, thus water leaked from the bottom of the door.
We spent over $3000 remodeling Ralph's remodel. He agreed that he was at fault, but he didn't have insurance, nor did we want him to do the work. We told him we would split the cost. He agreed and paid $300, assuring us he would pay the remainder. Occasionally, he says he remembers that he owes us the money, but it is now over 2 years since we have seen any money.
So, while he does beautiful tile work, I would definitely hire someone else to do the wall, shower build, and plumbing work. And, I wouldn't give him the balance of payment until a few weeks after the job is complete... Just in case.
"While agreeing with the improperly installed (or lack of) shower lining at the time of the remodel, after doing research on the issue, I realized I was trained incorrectly on shower pan installations and have since remedied that by receiving the proper training. I did pay $300 towards an agreed upon $1000 "settlement" and unfortunately ran into tough times as I am a single father with full custody of my daughter and no matter how hard I have tried, the funds are not there which doesn't excuse the fact that the remainder $700 remains unpaid, but I do have to provide for my daughter first and foremost. I will however NOT take the blame for the shower head issue nor the frameless shower leaking. I informed the homeowner at the time of installation that the shower head they wanted me to install was too heavy for the plumbing and an alternate shower head would need to be installed. The homeowner insisted on the installation so I proceeded. When I want back to inspect the leak, I again told them that the shower head was to heavy to be supported by the existing plumbing. And as for the frameless shower.. Frameless showers are prone to leak and the glass company will tell you that upfront. The bottom and sides of the door have a plastic sweep and must be maintained and checked / serviced regularly. However, there is still a possibility for leakage due to the lack of a frame to completely seal out all of the water!! The shower enclosure was checked at the time of completion prior to the post construction repairs and was found to perform up to industry standards. The re-installation of the shower enclosure AFTER the shower pan repair should have been inspected by the contractor who did the repair so I am unsure of the shower enclosures performance after that point in time. For the record, the homeowner was a blessing to deal with and I really enjoyed working on this project. It's unfortunate that things went down the way that they did but in almost 15 years in business, this is the first incident of this type. I still am bothered by the way things turned out and still plan on making good on my promise no matter how long it takes. R.J.'s Construction And Remodeling"
